General Hospital Max Gail’s Wife Diagnosed With Cancer
Mike Corbin had been an integral part of General Hospital as Sonny Corinthos’ father. He had been played by Ron Hale for fifteen years but they had a very up-and-down relationship. Hale exited the series but then the character was recast with Max Gail stepping into the role. This time, Mike had a different story to tell as he had Alzheimer’s and Sonny had to try to reconcile with a man he struggled with for so many years. They made new memories together as Mike began his transition. The storyline was so incredibly powerful that...

The words offbeat, personal and edgy used to be a draw for movie fare — we’d check out a new relationship picture based only on an actor or two that we liked. Bobby Roth’s semi-autobiographical buddy story has a good stab at the early ’80s art + singles scene in Los Angeles, with a dash of macho clichés — pals Peter Coyote and Nick Mancuso fight in public and somehow suffer while bedding fantastic women. But the overall vibe is one of honest sensitivity, aided by fine performances from Carole Laure, Kathryn Harrold and Carol Wayne. Plus music by Tangerine Dream.

There have been plenty of episodes, especially early on, where Magnum worked cases himself.
It's always a pleasant change of pace when Higgins goes solo, such as on Magnum P.I. Season 4 Episode 17.
Well, Juliet was hardly solo. This time, she almost filled a sidekick role to precocious 12-year-old Ella.
Ella was an enjoyable character, mature beyond her years and on a mission to gain closure. Maybe even more mature than Magnum some days.
Ella was smart enough to trick Higgins into taking the case in the first place. She paid a guy 20 to stand in for her father on the phone.
It was easy to embrace Ella, who attempted to close her Hpd detective mother's last case, a triple homicide.
This case is undoubtedly weightier than Magnum and Higgins usually take on intentionally. Because when things get heavy, it's time to bring in Katsumoto.
But before that happened, Juliet...

“Sonny’s energy is dark and dreadful, but he’s a cool-ass character,” declares Maurice Benard about the role he’s played on ABC’s “General Hospital” since 1993. Playing mob boss Sonny Corinthos on the long-running soap has earned the actor nine Daytime Emmy nominations, and wins as Best Actor in 2003, 2019 and now 2021. This makes Benard one of only five actors in Daytime Emmy history to win three or more times in the lead-actor category. Watch our exclusive video interview with Benard above.
Winning those three Emmys took a while. It took 10 years for the actor to win his first, and then another 16 to win his second. But the gap has given him perspective on awards and what they mean for him in general. “I’m not happy now because I won an Emmy — I’m just happy,” he exclaims. “When I was young … if I would lose I would...

Darin Brooks has played Wyatt Spencer on “The Bold and the Beautiful” for almost a decade, joining the cast in 2013. But this year’s Daytime Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actor marks his first recognition from the television academy for this role. That’s pretty surprising considering that he was already an Emmy winner when he joined the cast, and considering that a couple of his most prominent screen partners have done quite well for themselves.
Brooks became a star in daytime thanks to his role as Max Brady on “Days of Our Lives,” for which he was nominated for Best Younger Actor in 2008 and won in 2009. His victory — along with his co-star Tamara Braun‘s Best Supporting Actress win that year — was significant because “Days” had been suffering a long drought. Those were the show’s first acting wins in 21 years. But despite putting “Days” back on the map with Emmy voters,...

Then on June 28 nominations will be announced in other fields including children’s, animated, and lifestyle programming, with those winners to be revealed during online streaming ceremonies on July 17-18. So who made the cut in this round? Scroll down for the full list.
The voting process for the Daytime Emmys differs significantly from their prime time counterparts. The nominees were selected by panels that ranged from 10 to 50 members who reviewed every submission in the category. The panelists scored those submissions individually instead of ranking them in order of preference. The highest scorers were the ones who made the cut as nominees.

“Days of Our Lives” came into the 2019 Daytime Emmys with the most nominations (27), but it was “The Young and the Restless” that left Sunday night’s ceremony with top honors. But “Gh” had a good night too thanks to its historic sweep of the acting races. Check out the complete list of Emmy winners here.

Dominic Zamprogna has earned his third Daytime Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actor for playing Detective Dante Falconeri on “General Hospital.” The role brought him previous nominations in this category in 2014 and 2016. The actor exited “Gh” earlier this year after playing the role since 2009, so will Emmy voters send him off with his first win?
These awards are decided by blue ribbon panels viewing sample performance reels from each actor. Although the Daytime Emmys did not release the drama acting reels to the public this year, they have been made available to the press. Below is an overview of Zamprogna’s submission.

The role of Mike Corbin on “General Hospital” was played by Ron Hale for 16 years from 1995 until the actor retired in 2011. Now Gail is nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Daytime Emmys, which marks the actor’s first bid at these awards and the first bid for any actor playing Mike. The nominees and winners for the Daytime Emmys were determined based on sample performance reels from each actor, which were viewed and voted on by blue ribbon panels. Find out all about what Gail submitted to Emmy judges below.

Greg Rikaart is no stranger to the Daytime Emmys. He earned five Best Supporting Actor nominations for his role as Kevin Fisher on “The Young and the Restless”, winning on his very first try. He also earned a nomination for Best New Approaches–Daytime Entertainment as part of the cast of the online series “Imaginary Bitches.” But Rikaart could make history if he wins for his new role on “Days of Our Lives.” He would be the first to win Best Supporting Actor for a gay role. And he would be the first openly gay actor to win for a gay role in any category.

In 1962, legendary soap scribe Agnes Nixon wrote a uterine cancer storyline involving beloved Bert Bauer (Charita Bauer) on “Guiding Light,” prompting many women to visit their doctors and get Pap smears. There were no Daytime Emmys back then to acknowledge Nixon’s tale, but since 1973, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) has been handing out gold statuettes to producers, writers, actors and other creative personnel for their outstanding work in social-issue stories similar to Nixon’s.
The late Nixon recounted in her 2017 memoir, “My Life to Live,” that she had to battle network execs to tell Bert’s uterine cancer story, but today’s writers appear to be able to tackle pretty much anything and everything.
Last year, “General Hospital,” for example, told tales of gender identity, cults, #MeToo and Alzheimer’s.

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is out with the drama performer pre-nominations for its 46th Daytime Emmy Awards. CBS’ The Young and the Restless leads the field with 21, edging ABC’s General Hospital (20) and NBC’s Days of Our Lives (19). CBS’ The Bold and the Beautiful is next with 13.
The 2019 Daytime Emmys will be the first since network soaps threatened to boycott the trophy show in the summer over NATAS’ response to their demands that major changes be made to the voting and accounting practices for the awards and the way the competition is held. The threat was called off in November.
The full list of nominations will be unveiled on March 20 ahead of the May 5 ceremony.

The truth was front and center this week in Port Charles. Oscar, Sonny and D.A. Dawson's lives were forever changed when each one of them was forced to deal with death in three very different scenarios.
I was thrilled Oscar learned about his brain tumor. Kim and Drew keeping their son in the dark about his cancer was not sitting well with me.
Too many people learned what was going on with Oscar, which meant it was only a matter of time before the secret was out. Thankfully General Hospital did not drag it out until November sweeps.
Cameron accusing Oscar of lying to Josslyn about his brain cancer got the ball rolling. Oscar walking in on Drew, Kim, and Dr. Terry Randolph, confirmed his frenemy Cam knew something he didn't.
My heart broke for the young teen as he realized not only was he dying but his mom...
