It’s that time year again—when one might, upon their daily neighborhood perambulation, casually stumble upon a man dressed in a blood-splattered full-body jumpsuit and think to themself, this is perfectly fine and normal. But that’s the Halloween season for you, when the ghosts and goblins and AMC-obsessed Nicole Kidmans are out in full force for their yearly Halloween rituals.
Aside from meticulously inserting razor blades into the apples we all intend to hand out to local children, everyone’s favorite part of the Halloween season is—of course—the excuse to binge-watch our favorite horror movies, from the silly-scary (Hocus Pocus), to the fun-scary (Trick R Treat), to the scary-scary (The Evil Dead) or the really scary-scary (any news channel). Legendary Entertainment has acquired the film, television, and ancillary rights to Paolo Coelho’s novel The Alchemist and will steer the feature film development of the project with Sony’s TriStar Pictures and Palmstar.
Jack Thorne, who adapted the family hit Wonder, and Netflix’s Enola Holmes, is attached to write.
The Alchemist tells the story of Santiago, an Andalusian shepherd boy, who yearns to travel in search of a worldly treasure as extravagant as any ever found. The story of the treasures Santiago finds along the way are pieces of wisdom which encourage those who find them to listen to their hearts, read the omens strewn along life’s path and follow their dreams. Originally written in Portuguese in 1988, Coelho’s novel became an international bestseller, and holds the record for the most translated work by a living author. The elusive feature adaptation of Paulo Coelho’s popular novel The Alchemist has gone from lead to gold — again.
Legendary Entertainment has secured the film, TV and ancillary rights to develop a feature based on the classic novel, with TriStar Pictures on board to release. Jack Thorne — whose film credits include Enola Holmes and The Swimmers — is attached to write the feature adaptation of a popular 1988 novel that has seen a road to the big screen as winding as the traveler’s philosophical journey in the book.
Laurence Fishburne had wanted to develop Coelho’s best-selling book for 16 years after acquiring the film rights from Warner Bros. Pictures with the intent of making the movie themselves. Warners acquired author Coelho’s book — about a traveler journeying the world during the Inquisition in order to find man’s purpose in the world — in 2003 as a Fishburne vehicle.

M. Night Shyamalan’s “Glass” crossed the $100 million mark at the domestic box office on Friday.
Domestically, the film starring Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson and James McAvoy has earned $105.5 million. Globally, it has made $223.6 million.
Shyamalan wrote and directed the film that is a follow-up to his films “Unbreakable” and “Split.” Sarah Paulson also stars.
With “Glass,” Shyamalan closes a story loop that he started 19 years ago with the critically acclaimed “Unbreakable.” This new sequel finds that movie’s protagonist, David Dunn (Willis), taking up a side gig as a vigilante superhero with the help of his son Joseph. Still using the ominous-looking green security guard poncho from his old job, Dunn decides the next villain to track down is the very troubled Kevin Wendell Crumb (McAvoy), whose 24 personalities include a super-powered monster known as The Beast.

Before Batman and Spider-man, there were American western folk heroes. Characters based off of real live people who roamed the wild west like Bufallo Bill, Jesse James and Billy the Kid. One of these western folk heroes was John Henry "Doc" Holliday, who if past films has been portrayed by Kirk Douglas, Val Kilmer and Dennis Quaid. Doc Holliday went from being a dentist to one of the deadliest gunslingers of the west. He took part in the epic gunfight at the O.K. Corral alongside Wyatt Erap, which has been featured in such films like Tombstone and Gunfight at the O.K. Corral.
According to The Hollywood Repoter, PalmStar Media has optioned the rights to two novels by Mary Dora Russell one being, Doc and Epitaph: A Novel of the O.K. Corral. This book is considered to be the seminal book on Doc Holliday that chronicles his life from...

Doc Holliday is one of my favorite legends from the old west. I've always enjoyed the stories that revolve around him. My favorite on-screen portrayal of the gunslinger came from Val Kilmer in the classic film Tombstone. He was so damn good in that role!
Now there's a new movie going into development in which Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker, The Avengers) will play John Henry ‘Doc’ Holliday and I'm actually pretty interested to see what his vision of the legend will be like.
According to THR, the film will be based on two novels written by Mary Doria Russell, which include Doc: A Novel and Epitaph: A Novel of the O.K. Corral. Those books were optioned by Palmstar Media, who is also producing the film. Producer Kevin Renner had this to say in a statement:

In a deal said to be worth around $90 million, The Wrap brings word today that Netflix has closed a deal to acquire the Will Smith-Joel Edgerton supernatural cop thriller, Bright.

Looks like Kevin James is going to be leading a Netflix original film, and despite the above featured image, it is a not a Paul Blart: Mall Cop movie. The streaming service has announced today that the actor/comedian will be heading the film entitled True Memoirs Of An International Assassin.
The film's synopsis is as follows:
"A mild-mannered would-be author gets mistaken for a killer-for-hire when his fictional novel about an international assassin is published as a true story. The book is a huge success and he is suddenly kidnapped and taken to Venezuela and forced into an assassination plot."
True Memoirs Of An International Assassin is directed by Jeff Wadlow, who is likely best known for directing Kick-ass 2, and will be hitting Netflix some time in 2016.

Could acoustic lightening strike twice? 2006 was a mythical, magical year for John Carney when Once took the Sundance Film Festival and film world by storm. With buffer items Zonad (2009) and The Rafters (2012) only whetting our appetite for another Carney gem, 2013’s surprise box office indie hit Begin Again (with Keira Knightley, Mark Ruffalo and Adam Levine) sort of got us back in the saddle. We now come full circle back to another micro film with potentially lots of heart. Considered a cousin to Once, Carney enlists U2’s Bono and The Edge for the this when Irish eyes are smiling coming-of-ager romance. Currently in the midst of a certain restructuring, the Weinsteins picked up Sing Street in at the Cannes Film Fest in 2014 and it was kept off the 2015 slate. Could this semi-biographical tale be tuned up as a crowd-pleasing Park City item?

Qed Holdings co-CEOs file trademark infringement and unfair competition suit.
Sasha Shapiro (pictured at right) and Anton Lessine (pictured at left) have filed a claim against Qed International founder Bill Block, Qed Pictures and Qed International.
In a filing with the Us District Court Central District of California Western Division on Wednesday the Qed Holdings principals alleged Block, who served as Qed’s CEO and director from May 2012-February 2015, “actively and surreptitiously hijacked Qed’s assets and siphoned Qed’s opportunities for his personal gain.”
The claim asserts that one of the ways Block did this was “to misuse Qed’s name and trademarks to establish and operate entities controlled not by Qed, but by Block personally.”
The plaintiffs allege, among other things, that Block negotiated a $1m down payment from Chinese investors in Bruce Lee biopic Birth Of The Dragon for Qed Pictures, a company they say he formed and fully owned as an individual for his...
