With a career that began in 1990, survived a break-up, Robbie Williams’ solo success, and Jason Orange leaving, it’s safe to say that Take That have done rather well. Writer Tim Firth utilised the band’s music for a jukebox musical which took the Mamma Mia! approach, before its success led to Firth adapting the musical to a film directed by Coky Giedroyc.
The story flashes back to 1993, where five best friends are obsessed with a band called “The Boys” who are not Take That, despite having hits such as Relight My Fire, Pray, and Never Forget. Aisling Bea rounds up old school friends to watch the reunited boyband in Athens and, amid the laughs, confront what happened when they last saw them 25 years ago
A jukebox musical featuring the works of Take That might not ever be one for the cool kids; undoubtedly this is a bit broad, but it’s a splurge of feelgood from director Coky Giedroyc and screenwriter Tim Firth, adapting his own stage show, and it’s at least as enjoyable as the much-hyped Mamma Mia! movies.
Aisling Bea gives it loads as Rachel, a hardworking NHS nurse who in her teen years was a massive Take That stan (as no one used to say in 1993) along with her four best mates from school. She is astonished one day to be phoned up by the local radio station and told she’s won a luxury all-inclusive deal for her and some guests...

Exclusive: ‘Get Ready For It’! Man-band Take That have shot a cameo scene for the Greatest Days film that features hits from the group’s song book.
Take That members Gary Barlow, Mark Owen and Howard Donald revealed exclusively to Deadline that they joined Greatest Days filmmaker Coky Giedroyc (Save Me) in Athens, Greece on Tuesday to shoot a short scene for producer Danny Perkins’ Elysian Film Group production.
It was a truly glamorous moment. “We play buskers,” Barlow joked.
Owen explained that the trio is seen busking at a train station in Athens. They perform the number “Shine”, a song from their 2006 comeback album Beautiful World.
”Yeah, we did the scene once Coky negotiated our ten-minute cameo down to about three seconds,” commented Barlow, to much hilarity from his bandmates who’d gathered in a suite at the Majestic Hotel in Cannes.

While fans await official confirmation from Mammoth Productions, the planets appear to be coming into alignment for filming to start on the ninth series of ITV crime drama Endeavour, starring Shaun Evans and Roger Allam.
Series eight concluded on ITV in September 2021 with a touching tribute to Inspector Morse actor John Thaw, and some uplifting words from Allam’s Fred Thursday. Having reached its 33rd episode (the same number of Morse stories filmed), many predicted eight would be Endeavour’s final series, though Allam suggested the drama would have “a few more to wrap things up”. Not least to wrap up the ongoing mystery of how and why his character has disappeared from Morse’s life by the time of the John Thaw incarnation.

Recently released Calendar Girls Original London Recordingcis just perfectly nice. Based on the charming and quaint 2003 film by the same title written by Tim Firth, the musical itself garnered warm notices from London media. So, it is no surprise that the music and this cast was recorded for preservation however, the two-disc album doesn't convince listeners that this musical is better than the original film as some British theater writers claim.

ITV has hit a mighty milestone - first launched on September 22, 1955, the home of The X Factor, Downton Abbey and more is 60 years old today.
In its six decades, ITV has produced some of the biggest, best and most memorable TV shows in British broadcasting history.
But while everyone else is talking up Gladiators, Coronation Street and Blind Date, we wanted to take this opportunity to celebrate a few of the channel's less celebrated gems.
1. The Krypton Factor (1977-1995)
"Television's Toughest Quiz!" boomed the announcer back when the show launched in 1977. And even almost forty years later, nothing has quite matched Granada's brutal search for a UK superperson since.
Resembling a cross between a byzantine parlour game and a Soviet-era punishment for shoplifting, each week saw four more contestants subjected to a variety of cruel and unusual tests – from terrifying memory tests to landing a Boeing 747 (albeit on a simulator).
But worst of all?...

Morrissey, who is speaking at Broadcast’s Production & Post Forum, said he wanted to have more creative control over the projects in which he stars. He would also like to develop projects in which he doesn’t appear.

Blockbuster season may be drawing slowly to a close but that doesn’t mean there aren’t still a couple of big hitters out there hoping to make a dent in the Box Office chart.
In the meantime, The Dark Knight Rises continue to rake in the coins and it still looks set to match and possibly surpass Avengers Assemble’s total gross. Seth Macfarlane’s comedy Ted still stands at the top of the chart however after a second strong week. Macfarlane’s comedy has done pretty darn well in its opening fortnight, taking in a whopping £17million thus far. When one considers that The Hangover had only taken around £7million at this point, it emphasises how well Ted has performed in this time where franchises and sequels seem to rule all.

Nigel Cole's wedding romcom is a wacky, unpretentious and likable best-man's-eye view
Some decent laughs in this very wacky, unpretentious and likable British wedding romcom from director Nigel Cole and screenwriter Tim Firth, who gave us Calendar Girls. The central concept is that we are watching an amateur wedding video, shot and edited by the anarchic best man. The fact that the ferocious mother-in-law at one stage engages a professional videographer allows for plenty of competition gags and cleverly allows Firth and Cole to create "reverse shot" scenes, cutting in material supposedly shot by this second crew. Robert Webb plays Tim, a hapless bloke getting married to Saskia (Lucy Punch), a reformed wild child who has submitted to the social aspirations of her posh mother, nicely played by Harriet Walter. Rashly, Tim asks his laddish brother Raif to be the best man: he is played by Rufus Hound, a...

Four Weddings and a Funeral has set the precedent for the romantic comedy of wedding bell errors. Unfortunately, all other wedding-themed films are often judged critically by comparison.
As much as Made In Dagenham director Nigel Cole’s The Wedding Video is different in its ‘caught on camera’, fly-on-the-wall approach, the end result should be a same with the ‘rom’ and the ‘com’ in equal abundance. The comedy is there – and side-splittingly funny in a unique British sense at times, but the romance is a little lacking, like a dafter episode of Peep Show for the immature keeping nuptials at bay.
Raif (Rufus Hound) is back from travelling to attend his older brother Tim’s (Robert Webb) wedding, but not before he carries out his Best Man duties. Armed with a camera, eternal prankster Raif decides to make a ‘warts-and-all’ wedding video for the happy couple, soon discovering that the...

Reuniting the writer and director of Calendar Girls The Wedding Video is a mockumentary take on the traditional wedding rom-com genre, with a lot of the film being shot by Rufus Hound, making his feature acting debut for Nigel Cole’s latest film.
He appears as the wayward Raif, brother to Robert Webb’s Tim whose nuptials he plans to film and give to the new bride and groom as a present. Things, as you would expect, do not go to plan.
Last September I visited Basildon Park in West Berkshire as it played host to a series of small but significant social disasters caught on camera by Raif and others and there was the hectic air familiar to both movie sets and wedding ceremonies.
I sat down with the writer Tim Firth in a small room housing several back staircases one could imagine playing host to an unending procession of staff and caterers.

Weddings have often been a fertile ground for cinematic comedies, particularly over here (Four Weddings, Confetti etc.) and now Calendar Girls duo Nigel Cole and Tim Firth are looking to reap the laughter harvest once more with their new film The Wedding Video. They’ve just recruited Lucy Punch, Robert Webb and Rufus Hound to star.According to The Hollywood Reporter, Video will take on English society weddings in a mockumentary style similar to Spinal Tap, with a hapless best man coming up with the best gift he can think of for his pal and the bride: a filmed diary of their nuptials. Naturally, it all goes a bit wrong.Punch, of course, was last seen walking away with Bad Teacher and has been making a name for herself across the Pond. Webb has experience with wedding mishaps having appeared in Confetti, but was most recently on screen in Magicians.
