On July 26, “America’s Got Talent” returned with more spectacular auditions on Episode 9 of Season 17. Host Terry Crews welcomed series judges Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel back to the dais with performances from the eighth set of entertainers. But who were the best performers from the episode? And did any move forward that shouldn’t have? Below we rank the 14 acts who advanced from worst to best.
See ‘America’s Got Talent’ episode 8 performances ranked: Top 13 acts ranked from worst to best
Season 17 Episode 9 rankings:
14. Kim Evey: Kim might have impressed the other judges, but I am in the same camp as Simon on this act. The snippet of the audition that we saw came across as a bit cringeworthy. Saying that, three judges and social media disagree with me. To reuse a phrase that I learned to say today in French, “Tout est bien qui finit bien.

This summer, “America’s Got Talent” returned for its 17th season with Terry Crews resuming his hosting duties and Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel, and Sofía Vergara once again making up the judges panel. As in the past, this year’s champion will take home a 1 million cash prize and be able to showcase their talent as a headlining act in Las Vegas. The first five audition installments aired between May 31 and June 28 and were followed by the “Simon’s Favorite Golden Buzzers” special on July 5, a sixth set of first round auditions on July 12 and the seventh on July 19. The July 26 episode featured the eighth batch of initial acts vying for quarter-final placements.
In the preliminary round, the judges and Terry are each allowed one use of the Golden Buzzer, which sends an act of their choice straight through to the live shows. This season, Terry picked saxophonist Avery Dixon,...

Mediocre Films’ Greg Benson and his wife Kim Evey are ready to adopt a child in real life. To help get the word out about their pursuit of adoption, the couple created a special Mother’s Day prank video dubbed "Stealing Kids at Disneyland," where they ask parents at the theme park if they can take their kids home.
In the prank video, Benson, who hosts Break’s popular Prank It Fwd series, and Evey, who co-founded Geek & Sundry and was herself adopted from South Korea at the age of 14 months, approach complete strangers at Disneyland and ask to adopt one of their kids. Normally, this would be a pretty creepy experience for parents, but the majority of the families at Disneyland seem to play right along with the joke, offering their kids up without much hesitation.

Space La fitted out with professional stages and technology for creators who have outgrown their bedrooms and garages
It was the hangar which incubated Howard Hughes's aviation dreams, each aircraft model more fanciful than the last, and half a century later it is the launchpad for another striking ambition: a new generation of slicker, better YouTube videos.
The video-sharing website has converted the 41,000 sq-foot Los Angeles complex into a state-of-the-art digital production hub to catapult selected creators into another league of quality video making.
Where engineers once made helicopters and the Spruce Goose airplane for its reclusive tycoon owner, camera crews, lighting technicians and editors are now producing and polishing videos for YouTube creators who previously worked out of bedrooms and garages.

At a panel for YouTube channel Geek and Sundry at San Diego Comic Con, the likes of Wil Wheaton, Felicia Day, and Kim Evey talked about their various web shows. While there are were lots of interesting tidbits from the panel, one anecdote in particular was rather amusing:
“The cast was then asked if they had ever cosplayed in order to traverse the Comic-Con floor unnoticed. None of them had, but Wheaton had a story to tell: “On Thursday morning I was wearing a bowling shirt that said ‘Wesley Crusher’s Bowling Shirt’ and I went downstairs with my wife to have breakfast and a guy comes up to me and says ‘Are you cosplaying as Wil Wheat– Oh!’””
Who knows what would have happened if someone cosplaying Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory had mistaken him for Evil Wil Wheaton (or an Evil Wil Wheaton cosplayer, for that matter)? Probably some witty repartee,...

The Comic-Con 2012 schedule has now been released in full, and barring any major updates, is set. The blessing and curse of being an attendee is deciding which panels/autograph sessions/special events to attend, when they conflict. And they always do.
For you to see for yourself, below are what we are calling the “headliner” panels; those panels that are taking place in Hall H, Ballroom 20, Room 6Bdf, and the just-next-door Hilton Indigo Ballroom, the four major venues for panels. There are descriptions of each panel as well as the show(s) and/or movie(s) they are there to discuss.
See how many conflicts you might have, or how you might arrange time and space to somehow attend these plus spend every day in the vendors’ Exhibit Hall and chasing zombies in the nearby The Walking Dead Escape. By the way, if you figure that out, Please let us know.

Another day, another schedule for the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con. Next up is Day 3 - Saturday, July 14th - which is just about as chock-full of events for the horror crowd as Friday the 13th!
As always, our focus is the horror panels, but included are a few others that we think will be of interest as well. Remember that times and participants are subject to change so keep your eyes on the official Sdcc site for updates. And hopefully they'll provide a fix soon for the Sdcc smartphone app - in years past it's been extremely helpful.
10:00-11:00 Comic-Con How-To: Anatomy of a Fight Scene, Part One— Stories are about conflict, and there is no purer form of conflict than a good ol' fisticuffs-style brawl-or sword fight, laser battle, western shootout, or even two chicks pulling each other's hair. How do you put that much action down on...

Internet It girl Felicia Day gave an emotional introduction to her upcoming Geek & Sundry YouTube channel in front of a passionate audience last weekend at WonderCon. Day admitted she cried while listening to Pearl Jam on her drive to the convention and her panel in Anaheim, California. Apparently, it’s been a difficult 8 months trying to get everything ready for the launch of her latest online video initiative. Kim Evey (Producer of The Guild) played the role of moderator to a stage filled with notables from the interesection of tech and geek. Day was the center of attention, but joined by Wil Wheaton (The Guild, Eureka), Veronica Belmont (Tekzilla), Tom Merritt (Tech News Today) and Mike Richardson (Founder of dark Horse Comics) to give loyal fans a taste of what to expect when Geek & Sundry launches on April 2. Here’s a breakdown of all the new series: The Flog (which...

The premiere of the sure to be fanboy/girl favorite original companion web series to video game publisher BioWare’s role-playing title Dragon Age II went live late last night/early this morning on Machinima’s YouTube channel. The first of six installments of Dragon Age: Redemption introduces us to our star Felicia Day’s character Tallis, an ‘knife eared’ Elvin assassin in moderately protective fantasy armor with crazy skills on the hunt for the dangerous and recently escaped Qunari mage Cerebus. Take a look: In addition to slaughtering pigs and humans in front of the camera, Day contributed a helluva lot to the series behind the camera, too. She wrote Redemption, executive produced the series along with Kim Evey and Dan Kaplow, and her Knights of Good Productions (the same crew behind her uber-hit web series The Guild) took on the physical production duties of the program. One of my favorite web series out on the web is The Guild and when I found out that Dark Horse was coming out with a one-shot comic book about the characters from the show I just knew I had to read it.
The Guild: Clara in particular is about Clara who is the lovable but ignorant member of the group. The story starts with an in-game meeting in the Mmorpg that they play, while in the meeting Clara's husband starts getting angry with her about not cleaning up their bedroom that has all of their moving boxes from 10 months back. He gives her an ultimatum that if she doesn't clean the room by the end of the weekend,...

From Sandeep Parikh to Felicia Day, The Guild has launched careers for a number of its actors, but it has also created work for the people behind the camera. Sean Becker, the series' Streamy Award-winning director since season two, is one such case. Becker is a rare but increasingly common case of a person who, for basically his entire career, has worked in new media. The Guild, whose fifth season officially premieres on the web on July 26, is probably his most high profile credit, but Becker has lots of plans and projects. "It’s been crazy lately," Becker said in an interview. "I'm keeping busy and couldn't be happier. And I'd rather have that then not be busy at all." Becker has been working on passion projects with a number of Guild actors, including Jeff Lewis (The Jeff Lewis 5-Minute Comedy Hour, currently raising funds for season two), J. Teddy Garces...

With her groundbreaking series "The Guild," actress Felicia Day took control of her own career -- and shook up the world of Web video in the process.
I danced for four hours in high heels," Felicia Day says by way of apology for her morning-after sluggishness.
Last night was the wrap party for season four of her Web series The Guild, and for once it was no set-up-the-Rock-Band-in-the-living-room shindig.
She went all out, getting a local bar to donate space and hiring a DJ who played '80s music all night. "I was like, If we're going to do this, I want to dance," she says between spoonfuls of fruit and yogurt at a West Hollywood café. "I've been working 12-hour days.

Fans didn’t have to wait long to feast their eyes on the latest music video from hit web series The Guild, which unveiled the to a ballroom full of over 1600 wide-eyed fans at Comic-Con on Saturday. In what has become an annual tradition for the web series after its multi-million view breakout “Do You Wanna Date My Avatar” video from last year’s Con penetrated well beyond the show’s loyal fans, this year’s video upped the ante in terms of production and dance moves. (That, and we are now officially convinced that Felicia Day could also make a sizable living as a singer.) Zaboo convinces Codex to resume game play by transporting them to a world of inspiring song and dance. Vibrant costumes and a large cast of extras give it an over-the-top look and feel. So apparently there's this web show called The Guild, about a group of people who play an online RPG similar to World of Warcraft. WoW is an RPG, right? And it's adorable! And it's about charming little weirdos, which is GeekTyrant's target demographic, so you guys should all probably watch it. Also, web shows are really short usually, so it's not a major outlay of time. Google it because I'm too lazy to post a link.
Anyway, it was apparently created by Robin eve and Felicia Day, who also stars as Codex. (Which I'm assuming is her avatar's name.) The only things I know about the show are what they told me, so it would seem that a lot of the show deals with the weird romantic entanglement she has with Fox, played by Wil Wheaton. (In a recurring role, not a regular one, so it's probably not the main focus of the show,...

This time things got bigger. No longer holed up in a dreadfully undersized Room 5Ab, after two years of snaking multi-hour lines of devoted fans, Comic-Con knew it was time to upgrade this fan-powered web series to a ballroom—a big one. The 1600-plus that packed into the Indigo Ballroom at the San Diego Hilton were ready to once again be surprised by creator Felicia Day and the team behind the two and half year-old web series The Guild. The tricky part? Last year’s bar was set high—very high, with a flurry of surprise announcements including Wil Wheaton’s addition to the cast, a Guild comic book series and the now legendary music video “Do You Wanna Date My Avatar?” With two episodes of the new season already live online before this year’s Con, the smart money was on something big coming up in the next few episodes.

The third day of San Diego Comic Con International 2010 will be marked with a Seth McFarlane and Matt Groening fiesta in addition to a number of new series screenings. But beloved series like "Chuck" and "The Vampire Diaries" are also cramped on the usually most-crowded day.
"Chuck" which is known for its dedicated fans will be the first TV panel to occupy the Ballroom 20 that day. Last year, they set the bar high by featuring a performance by the Jeffster. Then starting from 11:00 A.M. Seth McFarland will take over the room to present panels for animations he created like "Family Guy". Matt Groening gets his turn at 12:45 P.M., kicking it off with returning series "Futurama".
New series which would be screened in smaller rooms are "The Event", "No Ordinary Family" and "Nikita". For those craving for some vampires, The CW will hold "The Vampire Diaries" panel at 4:15 P.

Do you think Felicia Day knew the giant bag of loot she fell on the day she created her stupendously successful web series “The Guild?” Most likely not but with the DVD of the show’s third season hitting wide release this Tuesday, her raiding party is likely to be sporting some new gear pretty soon.
If that first paragraph made no sense to you, you may not be into online gaming but if you’re a fan of Day (‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog”) you may know enough to appreciate the humor.
“The Guild: Season Three” is wrapped but I recently spoke with Day about her ups and downs over the course of the latest episodes in the popular web series.
“The whole season was kind of a roller coaster,” she said. “I didn’t realize adding six other cast members to the equation...

On April 15, 2010 a varied group of online entertainment creators gathered at the Acme Comedy Theater to do something they felt needed to be done, to celebrate the innovative and creative content that is being produced and distributed throughout the internet. The event, organized by Kim Evey and Jenni Powell, was designed as a Post Streamys Celebration to help get the web community back on track after a disillusioning weekend. In order to insure the integrity and spontaneity of the evening speakers were selected randomly from names drawn from a Streamy Award itself. This playful attitude set the tone for a fun and uplifting evening. Common themes that were mentioned included the fight for net neutrality, the freedom of the internet, the ability to reach audiences that you may not otherwise be able to, and the ability to be true to your self. After listening to the Streamy winners speak it...

The Battery’s Down is kind of like the Glee of web series. Today the New York-based musical comedy series created by Jake Wilson announced the release of The Battery’s Down: Season 2 Soundtrack on Ghostlight Records. The 21-song album is now available for purchase on iTunes, Amazon and the Ghostlight website, featuring the works of recent Pulitzer Prize-winning Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey, along with Michael Arden, Nick Blaemire, Eric Day, Ryann Ferguson, Connor Gallagher, John Hill, Lance Horne, Kirsten Guenther, Steven Jamai and many more. [Ghostlight Records] The Guild announced that their much rumored Season 4 is now officially picked up by lead sponsor Microsoft. Creator-star Felicia Day is “putting the finishing touches on the script” for the new season, according to their announcement, which will pick up where Season 3 left off. “Pre-production is underway, keeping producer Kim Evey and Streamy Award winning director Sean Becker very busy as cameras are...

Something is up with The Guild. This morning we were doing what any good web series site does when we procrastinate getting actual work done—watch reruns of The Guild on YouTube. (Season 3 is just rolling out its syndication run, how can you blame us?) But we noticed what appears to be the opening credits to a new animated spin off of the popular gamer comedy—dubbed Lil Guildies—pop up on their YouTube channel. The title reads only "Guild_Dis_Opening_V3.mp4". We grabbed an embed code and screen shot, but not much else to go on other than this mysterious video description: "Hey Ted, here is what we hope is the final version (for your eyes only of course). Title card to follow in a separate email. -Kim" It does feel a bit more kid friendly than the adult skewing live action version. More Rugrats than South Park,...

The Guild season 3 may be wrapped, but that didn't stop the hit show from celebrating one of its favorite holidays, Christmas. For those that remember, last year's 'The Guild Christmas Carol Raid' made our favorite holiday videos list. This year they have taken it up a notch (or six) with an interactive YouTube video adventure of sorts, showing off their latest faux merchandising. The full set of six parody commercials, "The Guild Sells Out" hit the interwebs today. The videos were written and directed by special effects artists Greg Aronowitz, who crafted the oversized avatar weapons and props for The Guild's viral megahit Do You Wanna Date My Avatar? music video. The Guild's Felicia Day and Kim Evey produced the videos. While I wish the toys themselves were actually for sale—like the Codex Answer Orb — the commercials do promote something fans can buy, the Season 1 & 2 DVDs on...

Props to Elon Musk for stepping up as guinea pig number one on the new season of The Valley Girl Show which premiered today. Ok, maybe it's not so ballsy considering last season's guests, but for the founder of both electric car darling Tesla and rocket maker SpaceX, you have to think he's turned down interviews from considerably more credible outlets. Officially, the pitch line they are sporting is, "imagine if Reese Witherspoon’s character in Legally Blonde had taken Silicon Valley instead of Harvard Law-and been brunette-and you have the Valley Girl." This smart girl playing dumb (or is it a smart girl playing a dumb-sounding smart girl?) has been tried before. There's a earnest charm reminiscent of Kim Evey's Gorgeous Tiny Chicken Machine Show, though Draper's Valley Girl character doesn't commit as fully to the archetype. Nor does it play up the awkwardly comedic tension of Citizen Kate,...

In a town that loves to label and categorize, Felicia Day has never quite fit in. She has often felt trapped between two extremes: the "very charactery girl" and the leading lady. Neither is a perfect match. "I don't have the perfect looks Hollywood loves for the lead part, and then I wasn't quite charactery enough for the other parts," says the Los Angeles–based actor. "The parts I would get, I would tend to have to dress really crazy for and wear glasses. I started getting typecast as this kind of secretary girl."After a series of quirky-secretary gigs, Day decided she'd had enough. She sat down and wrote the kind of role she'd always dreamed of playing, the kind of character who isn't often seen in everyday entertainment. The result was Cyd Sherman, aka Codex, a geeky, neurotic young woman who spends most of her time playing a...

Las Vegas -- Two packed sessions at Natpe on Thursday morning offered tips on developing a Web series and strategies on making it a hit.
The sessions took place on the final day of the confab on the exhibition floor, something new the organization implemented this year.
CBS Interactive senior vp/Gm Anthony Soohoo and Mark Grossan, producer of Web series "Novel Adventures," talked about the show's creation. The producers came to CBS Interactive with a sponsor, Saturn, already attached, which Soohoo admitted made it "a lot easier" to greenlight.
"But we do look at projects with no sponsor; we also try to determine if there is potential for it to live on air as a series, or we will work with the content creators to find a sponsor," Soohoo said.
Grossan said he and "Novel" creator Jonathan Prince are now developing the series into a traditional series to pitch...

Let’s assume Pee Wee’s Playhouse was conceived during the acid trip of a 9 year-old boy suffering from acute Add. Now, let’s try to imagine another program derived from the child’s mind-altering escapades with a cocktail befitting of a Merry Prankster. Combine that with too much Japanese television replete with an engrish speaking hostess, a furry(ish?) fetish, and a thing for celebrity(ish?) personalities. What’s your imagination got? Yeah, I couldn’t come up with much either. Lucky for us Crackle.com’s Gorgeous Tiny Chicken Machine Show (G.T.C.M.S.) does all of the imaginative hard work so we can just turn on, tune in, drop out, and enjoy. Meet Kiko, masterfully played by Kim Evey, a Korean born, American-raised, lactose intolerant improv comedian (and producer of The Guild), actress and writer. We’ll also be enjoying our stay in this absurd...

The most original aspect of "Nowheresville", a low-budget comedy-romance, is the writer-director credit. Bishop Trout is the team moniker for co-producers Randall Harvey and Alex Mindt, Seattle-based filmmakers with several shorts and stage productions on their resumes.
"Nowheresville" made its world premiere recently at the Wine Country Film Festival in Northern California. Well-made and mildly diverting, the tale of friends, lovers and mates-to-be is predictable but sweet-natured. However, its commercial prospects are frankly nowaysville in a flooded marketplace.
"Like a river that don't know where it's flowing" is how one character describes love, quoting the Bruce Springsteen song "Hungry Heart". Unfortunately, one can't say the same for the scenario of this film, which opens with matter-of-fact philosopher Mike Mark Berry) introducing the small cast of players while dressing in formal wear for his own wedding.
Of course, the ultimate trick is guessing to whom Mike is getting hitched. Thankfully, the filmmakers don't overplay the gambit as Mike is mostly peripheral to the main action.
The primary players include manic, used-to-be-a-drunk Tom (Henri Lubatti), notorious for his dramatic approach to just about everything. In a seemingly healthy relationship with perky guy-saver Jenny Kim Tyler), Tom is set to pop the question in an elaborate scheme set at a Chinese restaurant.
Mike and Tom's best friend, Lillian (Kim Evey), are co-conspirators in a plan that includes a ring hidden in Ice Cream and the proposal inside a Fortune Cookie. In the days leading to the big event, however, Tom and Lillian realize that they have more than an intimate friendship. Maybe Tom is asking the wrong girl to walk down the aisle.
With supporting characters that are uniformly irritating, from Jenny's dysfunctional parents to a flower shop owner who goes ballistic when Tom and Lillian stand frozen and watch his store robbed by an old woman, "Nowheresville" rarely delves beneath the surface to explore what motivates the leads beyond their obvious longing for true love.
