On Tuesday, iconic singer and actress Barbra Streisand released her nearly 1,000-page memoir, My Name is Barbra. She dedicated her work to “the father I never knew and the mother I did.”
In her book, Streisand speaks of her childhood. She lost her father at only 15 months old. Her mother was always cold and unsupportive. Growing up, she wasn’t sure if her mother loved her.
This caused Streisand to become unhappy with herself. She described her father’s absence as a void in her life. In school, she was the “girl with no father and a good voice.”
She recalls harmonizing with the other students at 5 years old and knowing she was good. A couple of years later, at 13, Streisand’s mother paid for her to make her record.
She then started playing at nightclubs, where she met her longtime manager, Marty Erlichman, at 19. He got her a contract with Columbia Records.

Barbra Streisand’s fabled run of 1962 shows at the Greenwich Village nightclub, Bon Soir, will be released as a new live album, Live at Bon Soir, on Nov. 4 via Columbia Records/Legacy Recordings. To tease the release, Streisand shared a powerhouse rendition of the Arthur Hamilton-penned song, “Cry Me a River.”
Live at Bon Soir was recorded over three nights, Nov. 4 through Nov. 6, 1962: Streisand was just 20 years old, and she’d signed her first record deal with Columbia only a month earlier. The recordings were originally supposed to become Streisand’s debut album,...

Coma is a two-part miniseries that starts tonight on A&E and we’ve had a chance to check it out ahead of its premiere this evening. Continue reading for impressions, a photo gallery, and a trailer:
Directed by Mikael Salomon, and produced by Ridley and Tony Scott, Coma is based on the Robin Cook novel and 1978 Michael Crichton movie. The story centers on Susan Wheeler (Lauren Ambrose), a medical student who discovers that patients are being put into a coma and killed for medical experiments.
As I’ve mentioned before, TV miniseries are starting to become obsolete. In the past, they were big events because they had a larger budget and better actors than you’d traditionally see on TV. Things have changed over the past 10-15 years and the quality of TV is higher than ever. When that is the case, it really takes something special to stand out as a TV minseries.

Barbra Streisand, who hasn't appeared on film since 1996's The Mirror Has Two Faces, is returning to the screen. She is in final negotiations to play Ben Stiller's mother in Universal Pictures' Meet the Fockers, the sequel to the 2000 comedy hit Meet the Parents. Fockers is being directed by Jay Roach and produced by Jane Rosenthal, Robert De Niro and Roach. Stiller, De Niro, Blythe Danner and Teri Polo are returning in their original roles. Dustin Hoffman was cast as Stiller's father in January. In the sequel, Greg Focker (Stiller) and his fiancee, Pam Byrnes (Polo), have won over Byrnes' parents, Jack (De Niro) and Dina (Danner). But when the tightly wound Byrnes family is introduced to Greg's parents, the hyper-relaxed Fockers, there's an immediate clash. Fockers is written by Jim Herzfeld, Tim Rasmussen and Vince DiMeglio. The executives overseeing the project are Mary Parent and Holly Bario. Streisand won a best actress Oscar for 1969's Funny Girl and was nominated in the same category for 1973's The Way We Were. She is repped by ICM and Martin Erlichman Associates.
