Although professional wrestling first began as an almost-exclusively male sport, over time, women became a part of it as well. Most of them started off as managers and ‘eye candy’, but eventually they too entered the ring as competitors, and began wrestling just as much as men.
However, women’s wrestling has taken different forms in different parts of the world. Though women like the Fabulous Moolah, Trish Stratus, and Sasha Banks have gone on to become central figures in the world of women’s professional wrestling, most of them lack the creativity to come up with a truly unique wrestling maneuver that hasn’t been seen before.
That is where these ten women come into play. These are ten female professional wrestlers who, like their male counterparts, have been so devoted to their craft that they decided to create their own special moves. These moves have become...

The Divas Revolution in WWE has meant more time for their female performers on television and it could lead to the introduction of Divas Tag Team Titles. The Wrestling Observer reports there have been internal discussions about adding the titles as a way to give even more emphasis to the divas.
It was also mentioned by Dave Meltzer in the Observer that it might be the right time for WWE to drop the “divas” moniker for their female world title and use the word “women” due to the increase in popular in women’s sports. Considering the success of women like Ronda Rousey, Serena Williams and the Us Women’s Soccer Team, it makes sense that WWE calls ditches the diva stigma.

On Monday, July 13, 2015, Stephanie McMahon successfully altered the face of WWE forever. In officially introducing Charlotte, Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch to the main WWE roster, she signaled a sea change in the perception of women’s wrestling in WWE. For nearly two decades, though numerous technically sound performers have been employed by the company, women’s wrestling has largely been an afterthought. Three submission holds in the middle of the ring later, and that perception was altered forever.
It would seem that WWE is late in picking up on the evolution in women’s grappling that has been hot on the underground for a decade. However, there have been moments in which women being great at wrestling have taken over our collective imaginations as WWE fans before last Monday. From moments in Nxt to times in the Attitude Era, heck even back to the rock’n’wrestling days,...

Women have been involved in the pro wrestling business since nearly the beginning. There has been a recognized world champion for women’s processional wrestling since the 30’s. Mildred Burke won that original women’s title in 1937 before she went on to form the World Women’s Wrestling Association in the early 1950’s.
The Fabulous Moolah is one of the most decorated women’s champions where she was the Nwa World Women’s Champion; which would then transition into the WWF Women’s Championship.
In the late 80’s to early 90’s we would have females be established characters, not for wrestling, but as a valet to a top wrestler. The two main women that come to mind in this era would be Miss Elizabeth with the Macho Man Randy Savage, and Sensational Sherri Martel who would manage quite a few wrestlers, most notably Shawn Michaels during his first run...

Brock Lesnar ending the Undertaker’s winning streak at Wrestlemania 30 and Cesaro’s climb to even greater renown in WWE both share one man in common – Paul Heyman. Moreso than any other member of the active roster, Heyman’s unique ability to garner heat for performers in the role of manager is possibly one of the least discussed – yet most important roles that any on-screen character has in the company. Key to Heyman’s presentation of late is his proclamation that he is the greatest manager in the history of World Wrestling Entertainment.
As a heel, his audacious claim is meant to be the pomposity that leads to a cascade of boos. However, if studying the art of pro wrestling, is there truth to Heyman’s bold statement? In the annals of WWE’s history of ringside seconds, managers and generally conniving men and women patrolling ringside, is...

The Undertaker’s 21-0 Wrestlemania undefeated streak is the last great record in professional wrestling. No male superstar will ever again match Bruno Sammartino’s combined 4,040 days as Wwwf champion. No wrestler regardless of gender will ever touch the Fabulous Moolah’s legendary 27-year reign as Women’s Champion. It’s unlikely that we’ll ever see the “Honky-Meter” again during an Intercontinental Championship reign. And no other wrestler it seems will be able to come close to the Phenom’s streak of wins at the “grandest stage of all.”
But he isn’t the only undefeated superstar at Wrestlemania. Sure, he’s undefeated with the most matches, but 16 other superstars have at least a 2-0 record (one victory does not a streak make) or better (not counting pre-show losses or Battle Royal eliminations.) Who are the others who can claim to...

We are now one week away from the 29th edition of Wrestlemania – the biggest and grandest PPV in the history of the wrestling industry. For almost three decades Wrestlemania has been the scene of some of wrestling’s greatest feuds and most memorable moments. Stars have been made and careers etched in the annals of time. But as big as it has become the original Wrestlemania was far from being “The Grandest Stage of ‘em all” as it has become know. It wasn’t even given full national PPV exposure! Unbelievable when you think of how huge the event is today.

The big showdown from the Mar. 12 Raw, live in Cleveland, Ohio is a musical battle between John Cena and the Rock.
We're two weeks away from "WrestleMania 28" on Sun., April 1. Live from the Sun Life Stadium in Miami, Florida, headliners Cena -- the face of World Wrestling Entertainment -- will be squaring off against wrestler-turned-movie star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson at the Super Bowl of wrestling.
But before we get ahead of ourselves, onto this week's showdown:
Opening Segment: John Cena's Battle Rap
Watch On WWE Fan Nation
Cena comes out in full "Doctor of Thuganomics" gear, complete with Cavaliers jersey. Despite the local sports team pandering and wrestling fans' love of nostalgia, Cena is met with a divisive crowd. He lays down some pretty vulgar rhymes, including wanting to give Rock a Cleveland steamer. Cleveland, uh, appreciates(?) the shout-out.

Captain Lou Albano was a legendary wrestling manager at the forefront when the WWF (now WWE) initiated the Rock `n’ Wrestling storyline in the mid-1980s. Sporting an unwieldy beard, accented by rubber bands and the occasional paperclip, his storyline feud with pop star Cyndi Lauper helped propel wrestling into mainstream popularity. Albano also appeared with Lauper in her music video for Girls Just Want to Have Fun, and in her contribution to the soundtrack of the 1985 film The Goonies. Lauper’s video, Goonies `R’ good enough for me, also featured cameos from wrestlers Rowdy Roddy Piper, the Iron Sheik, Freddie Blassie, and Steven Spielberg.
Albano was born in Rome, Italy, on July 29, 1933, and came to the United States with his family as a child. He began his wrestling career in Montreal, Canada, in 1953. He later teamed with Tony Altimore to portray a villainous pair of wrestling gangsters known as the Sicilians,...

The entertainment world is mourning the loss of Captain Lou Albano, one of the most charismatic people ever to step into a wrestling ring. Albano became a household name during the rise of the WWF in the early 1980s, as his professional relationship with Cyndi Lauper put him on television outside of wrestling events. But he not only brought wrestling to the people, but he also brought people to wrestling. Case in point: The WWF (now WWE) used to have a pretty regular working relationship with MTV. The network hosted a number of original shows (including "WWE Tough Enough" and "Sunday Night Heat"), and back in the original Wrestlemania era, MTV actually aired live wrestling events, both of which involved Albano and Lauper.
The first event, "The Brawl to End It All," aired in 1984 and featured a Women's Championship match between Wendi Richter and the Fabulous Moolah. The show was...

Professional-wrestling fans the world over are mourning the passing of Captain Lou Albano. Though he was beloved among wrestling fans as an in-ring entertainer in various roles as a wrestler, manager and announcer, his main claim to crossover fame was as an ambassador who bridged the worlds of music and wrestling — a relationship that helped Vince McMahon's World Wrestling Federation (now Entertainment) to become a dominant national force in the 1980s and solidified Albano's place on the pop-culture map.
Not surprisingly, a lot of Albano's work in the music world saw a crossover with MTV. The network has always had a friendly relationship with professional wrestling, airing various pieces of WWE programming over the past few decades (including...
