The Blacklist remained one of the most popular shows on network television for the better part of a decade. Part of the reason for the show’s continued popularity, especially its longevity has to be lead star James Spader, who brought a sense of charm and wit to the criminal mastermind Raymond “Red” Reddington.

Given Spader’s influence on the character and the series overall, it is hard to imagine anyone else in the role. As a result, it might shock some fans to learn that Spader wasn’t the original choice for the role of Red. Instead, Academy Award winners Kevin Spacey and Gary Oldman were the ideal picks for the role. Here is everything you need to know about the casting of Red in The Blacklist.

Fox will keep its Missing Persons Unit on the job for another season.
The network has renewed the drama series Alert: Missing Persons Unit for a third season in 2024-25. The series will remain in production after season two wraps, which will bank episodes leading into next season and potentially serve as a hedge against a possible IATSE strike in the summer.
Alert is one of just two dramas Fox has aired in 2023-24 as the network relied heavily on its unscripted and animated rosters, which weren’t affected by last year’s dual strikes. Fox has yet to make a call on the other drama, The Cleaning Lady.
Alert stars Scott Caan and Dania Ramirez as Philadelphia detectives who head the city’s missing persons unit and work to find missing or abducted people and reunite them with loved ones. Adeola Role, Ryan Broussard and Alisha-Marie Ahamed also star...

Exclusive: Fox has given a Season 3 pickup to Alert: Missing Persons Unit. The renewal of the procedural drama, starring Scott Caan and Dania Ramirez, has been expected.
To make filming more cost-efficient for series producers Sony Pictures Television and Fox Entertainment, Alert will remain in continuous production, segueing from the abbreviated-by-the-strikes second season to Season 3, whose episode count is still Tbd, I hear. There is an additional benefit to filming Seasons 2 and 3 back-to-back — Fox will have fresh episodes of the series in case production is disrupted by an IATSE strike this summer.
There is no word yet on Fox’s other outstanding drama series, The Cleaning Lady. As Deadline has reported, it also is looking good for renewal.

This article contains spoilers for all of The Blacklist.
All good things must end. Whether all good things must end well is another matter entirely. The series finale of The Blacklist was rated poorly on IMDb and fans united in assessing it as one of the worst endings to ever close out a series’ run, especially a run as unique and longstanding as The Blacklist’s: 10 years and 218 episodes, an achievement largely unmatched in today’s TV landscape.
That ending of The Blacklist had to be a joke.

NBC drama series The Blacklist, now in its 10th and last season, is moving into its final weeks with some changes ahead. Beginning June 1, the show, which currently airs on Sundays at 10 pm, will move to Thursdays. Back-to-back episodes will air that night, June 1, at 8 pm and 9 pm, with subsequent episodes airing weekly at 8 pm.
This marks one final scheduling move for the longtime utility player — its 11th — to a night where NBC originally slotted the show as a power play in February 2015. Following a red-hot debut and a meteoric early ratings run in the Monday 10 Pm berth, NBC shifted The Blacklist to Thursdays eight episodes into its second season, with the move promoted by the drama getting the post-Super Bowl 2015 slot just before its Thursday debut.
In the first of back-to-back June 1 episodes, titled “The Hat Trick”, Red (James Spader) provides the Task Force with three criminal cases that are deeper than they appear,...

Before The Blacklist wraps its impressive 10-season run on NBC, it will move to a new night and time.
NBC announced Thursday that the low-rated drama would leave its Sundays at 10 p.m. slot behind, effective immediately.
Beginning June 1, the James Spader-led procedural will air on Thursdays at 8 p.m.
A special episode will air that night at 9 p.m. to celebrate the big move, before the show settles into its 8 p.m. slot for the rest of the season.
What's more, NBC has confirmed a two-hour series finale is set for July 13 from 8-10 p.m.
It's hard to believe the show is ending because it's been around for so long, but seeing how the show ends will be fun.
Plenty of moments in the show's history should have served as a swan song, but now, we'll see how this all ends later in the summer.

The Blacklist Season 10 will bring the show to a close, and for series star James Spader, it's best to wrap things up before the show changes too much.

The Blacklist has successfully reinvented itself countless times during its decade on the air — but the way James Spader sees it, the show ought to pack it in before it becomes unrecognizable.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Alert: Missing Persons Unit Season 1 finale.] Fox drama Alert: Missing Persons Unit has, thus far, been a mix of standalone cases and a season-long mystery, but would that be the formula for the show moving forward, if it’s renewed? That is the plan, and the second season would also likely delve into an arc for Kemi (Adeola Role) that showrunner John Eisendrath wishes they’d explored more in the first. Plus, after seeing more of and learning more about C (Petey Gibson) in these final episodes, what’s ahead for him? Eisendrath shares more. We saw a couple different sides of C in the finale, opening up in his conversation with Rachel (Elana Dunkelman) and being out of the office. How did you want to build to him being more comfortable in both those areas of his life? John Eisendrath: I love that guy. I think he is a charming performer.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Alert: Missing Persons Unit Season 1 finale.] Is Keith (Graham Verchere) really Keith? That’s been the question all season on Alert: Missing Persons Unit, and now we have the answer. Jason (Scott Caan) and Nikki’s (Dania Ramirez) son, unfortunately, has not returned home; instead, it was an imposter, Lucas, who used a fellow group therapy attendee’s story to explain where he’d been. For Lucas, Keith’s life — he’d seen his story on the news — was a fantasy, and for his mom, it was a way to make money. In the standoff, Lucas and his mother struggle over control of a gun, and he’s shot (and killed) in the process. So does that mean that Keith is dead? TV Insider turned to showrunner John Eisendrath to get answers and first tease what Season 2 (not yet picked up) could look like. Have you heard anything about a second season?...

Spoiler Alert! This post contains details from the season finale of Fox’s Alert: Missing Persons Unit.
The two-part Season 1 finale of Fox‘s Alert: Missing Persons Unit finally gives audiences answers about whether Nikki and Jason were really reunited with their missing son, Keith, or if the boy who has been living in their home has been lying to them all along.
Since the very first episode, Alert has dropped hints that Keith might not actually be who he says he is. Those suspicions were only heightened when Nikki and Jason’s daughter Sidney revealed that she was there when Keith fell through the ice and into a frozen river, where he presumably died. But if he wasn’t their son, how did he pass a DNA test? And how did he know so much about their family and their past?

After nearly a decade of betrayals and bloodshed, The Blacklist starts its endgame on February 23. NBC announced earlier this month that the upcoming 10th season will be the drama’s final outing. Showrunner and executive producer John Eisendrath said in a statement that it’s an honor to reach The Blacklist’s conclusion: “It’s been incredibly fun to create the strange, devious, and delightful Blacklisters to challenge Raymond Reddington [James Spader] and our FBI Task Force each week.” And those challenges will escalate in Season 10, it seems. NBC said in a press release that Red faces “unparalleled danger” this season on the show. “With Reddington’s covert role as an FBI informant facing exposure, former Blacklisters will unite against him in their lethal desire for revenge — testing Red and the FBI Task Force as never before,” the network added. Note the word “lethal” — as in, more people are gonna meet their maker!

The series premiere of “Alert: Missing Persons Unit” was the Fox’s top-rated and most-streamed drama debut since “9-1-1: Lone Star” in January 2020, accounting for three days of multiplatform viewing data provided by the network.
The series’ Jan. 8 launch reached 851,000 viewers in its first three days of streaming on Hulu, Fox Now and VOD platforms. Per Fox, “Alert” had a Multiplatform + 3 Day, which includes both linear and streaming, rating of 1.1 in the key adults 18-49 demographic.

Fox’s latest foray into the police procedural focuses on the Philadelphia Police Department’s missing person’s unit — telling the stories of all the ways that people might go missing while also diving into the mystery of two officers’ own missing child.
From The Blacklist showrunner John Eisendrath and Jamie Foxx, Alert: Missing Persons Unit follows police officer Nikki Batista (Dania Ramirez), who joined the Philadelphia Mpu after her son Keith went missing to help other people find their loved ones, even as she searches for her own. Six years later, her world is turned upside-down when her ex-husband, Jason Grant (Scott Caan), shows up with a proof-of-life photo of their missing boy. Or is it?

When charting the course of a procedural hybrid — those tricky shows in which a case of the week and a bigger, ongoing narrative arc go hand-in-hand — it’s helpful to be able to point to a show like Paramount+’s Evil (or CBS’ old Person of Interest, if that’s more your flavor) as an example of how to do it right.
Each standalone plot has to be satisfying, while the bigger storyline has to be advanced. Ideally, neither undermines the momentum of the other and, even more ideally, themes in one will inform and enhance those in the other.
Perhaps it’s equally helpful to be able to point to a show that illustrates time and time again how to do a hybrid procedural poorly — a cautionary template.
Credit to Fox, then, for the altruism of releasing Alert: Missing Persons Unit. The new drama isn’t offensive or necessarily outrageous in its badness.

It’d been this critic’s assumption that “Alert: Missing Persons Unit,” a new drama launching on Fox, would resemble “Without a Trace,” the case-of-the-week crime story that aired on CBS during what we might call that network’s Golden Age of police procedurals. There, each week brought a new intrigue around a person who’d disappeared, and, eventually, a resolution.
“Alert,” which was created by John Eisendrath of “The Blacklist” and Jamie Foxx of movie stardom, pumps up the formula. The searches for the missing each episode feature not just high dramatics but graphic onscreen violence; the show’s second episode, for instance, begins with a fellow being beaten bloody with a baseball bat to the head. Ouch! The show has, in the two episodes provided to critics, something of a throughline from the first. We follow the professional and personal lives of two formerly-in-love cops (Scott Caan and...

Searching for a taut new crime drama to pick up this winter? Look no further than these two new broadcast offerings starring familiar faces from Hawaii Five-0, Heroes, and Shameless. Alert: Missing Persons Unit The Team Divorced cops Jason Grant (Scott Caan) and Nikki Batista (Dania Ramirez) are colleagues in the Philadelphia P.D.’s Missing Persons Unit. Navigating “twists and turns” in abduction and runaway cases, Caan says, the two are held close by a tragic past as parents of a kidnapped child. The Missing The wandering, the abducted, the kidnapped — the show’s storylines include rich, ripped-from-the-headlines drama. Some victims, executive producer John Eisendrath says, “are taken and are desperate to be found,” while others “are running away and are desperate not to be found.” The Backstory Opening six years in the past — when Jason and Nikki were happily married and their young son, Keith, disappeared — the series...
