Buzz Cason, the Nashville singer, songwriter and producer best known for “Everlasting Love,” the buoyant Motown-style pop song covered numerous times and appearing in many films since Robert Knight recorded the original in 1967, died June 16 at his home in Franklin, Tennessee. He was 84.
His death was announced by the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. A cause of death was not specified.
“Everlasting Love,” with its impossibly catchy and immediately recognizable chorus that begins “Open up your eyes/Then you’ll realize/Here I stand with my everlasting love,” has made the charts in various versions, most notably Carl Carlton’s 1974 cover that hinted at the imminent arrival of disco. In the U.K., the song was a #1 hit in 1968 by London-based pop band Love Affair.
Other artists who have covered the song, written by Cason with writing partner Mac Gayden, include Gloria Estefan, Rex Smith and Rachel Sweet , U2,...

More than a century after Alice Guy-Blaché became one of the film world’s first directors when she brought “La Fée aux Choux” (“The Cabbage Fairy”) to the screen in 1896, the movie business hasn’t progressed much in giving female auteurs an equal share of jobs. But the pioneer filmmaker might be happy to know that the daytime drama genre has afforded opportunities for women to call shots from the control booth.
Women have been directing soap operas since Gloria Monty, the iconic “General Hospital” producer, directed CBS’s “The First Hundred Years” in the early 1950s, and she went on to direct Joan Crawford during her stint on “The Secret Storm” in 1968. Lela Swift followed in those footsteps and won the 1977 Daytime Emmy for outstanding individual director for a drama series for her work on “Ryan’s Hope.” In the late 1980s, Francesca James, an “All My Children” actress-turned-director and producer,...

With all the nerds, geeks and fanboys fawning over Alexa Havins, the easy-on-the-eyes addition to "Torchwood: Miracle Day," we almost forgot to ask her about one very important thing during her Comic-Con visit...
Her Return to "All My Children."
Now, we admit that current state of the canceled-by-abc/saved-by-the-Internet soap has us more than a little confused -- especially given this latest twist from Daytime Confidential -- but at least we know there'll be more of Babe Carey Chandler.
"It's more for the fans than anything," says Havins. "Granted I am in love with the actress who plays my mom, Bobbie Eakes, and there's so many lovely people there. But it's more for the fans, to give them that cherry on top... that closing of a chapter."
One might think that chapter would have ended with Babe's tornado-induced death in 2007, but the writers clearly have something cooking.

Days writer Marlene McPherson tweets about "big event"
"Wow!!! The big event is taping now! Old friends and new are all here! Get ready for big emotion, romance and fun! It's a brand new Dool!"
Patrick Muldoon tweets excitement over returning to Days Of Our Lvies set
"So great to see Ali-Christie. Kristian Alfonso just said "welcome home" I think I'm getting emotional."
Why NBC dumped its webisodes unit
NBC Universal had seemed to be on its way to cracking the code for online branded entertainment, but with its closure of NBC Universal Digital Studio, what's next for network-backed Web series?
Some in the creative community had decided that NBC Universal's Digital Studio relied too much on getting marketers to fund series ahead of time. "It really shows how the advertiser is in control of these enhanced digital content experiences," said one executive who worked with NBC Universal Digital Studio.

Are All My Children & One Life To Live getting a new "life"? According to an article in the New York Post late Wednesday night, the answer is yes!! According to the feature:
Disney’s ABC has sold the online rights to the two long-running soaps, which are scheduled to go off the air in September, as part of a deal with TV, film and music company Prospect Park, The Post has learned.
Sources said the daily dramas will pick up where they left off on a new, as-yet-unnamed, TV-focused online network once the soaps finish their four-decade run on ABC.
Here at We Love Soaps TV we are staying on top of this coverage and seeking to find confirmation from ABC, Prospect Park, or other news sources. For now, we are cautiously optimistic about these reports. AMC and Oltl becoming Indie Soaps?
What do you think about this development? Have our shows really been saved,...

The final stage of grief — Acceptance — is still a ways off for the casts, crews and viewers of All My Children and One Life to Live, the pair of long-running soaps ABC has decided to cancel as of September and February, respectively. But the first stage, Denial, seemingly is behind us, if only because rumors of the possible (evil) twin killing swirled weeks ago.
In the wake of ABC Daytime boss Brian Frons handing down the official word, here is what some soap stars present and past — as well as a few primetime peers — had to say about the saddest...

Combined, 'All My Children' and 'One Life to Live' cover more than 80 years of television and boast legions of fans, but that didn't stop ABC from announcing yesterday that the two Agnes Nixon-created soap operas will be leaving the airwaves. 'AMC' will exit in September, and 'Oltl' will air its final episode next January.
It's impossible to imagine daytime TV without Erica, Tad, Viki, Dorian and Bo, but that's exactly what we're going to have to get used to.
Why are these beloved programs leaving us? AOL TV spoke to daytime talent manager Michael Bruno, known for his Simon Cowell-esque comments as a judge on the defunct SOAPnet reality series 'I Wanna Be a Soap Star,' for some insight.

"All My Children" is hanging on for dear life.
After moving the entire production from New York to Los Angeles to save money, publicly cutting the paycheck of its most well-known star, and eliminating long-time cast members, the show still remains on the chopping block. What's a classic show to do?
Bobbie Eakes, a cast member on the show, has been feverishly tweeting polls and petitions directed at ABC executives. "AMC is not being cancelled! But now is a great time to let the network know you'd like to keep it that way," she tweeted, adding a smiley emoticon for good measure.
If ABC followed through with its cancellation, "All My Children" would join a long line of recent soap opera casualties. "Guiding Light," which premiered on CBS in 1952 after fifteen years on the radio, was cancelled in 2009, and "As the World Turns" followed in September 2010, airing the last episode of its 54-year run.

In Parts One and Two of our interview with Lilly Melgar, the wise and inspiring actress discussed triumphs in her early career, her friendship with Ricky Martin, and the highs and lows of Lily Rivera Corinthos on General Hospital. In Part Three below, Melgar discusses the challenges of going to B&B, and how she dealt with disappointment following her daytime roles.
We Love Soaps TV: So your role on Gh ended, and a few months later you were on B&B. As I recall there were some pretty steamy scenes between you and Windsor Harmon [Thorne].
Lilly Melgar: There was a lot of sensual subtlety that never really went anywhere. I liked the chemistry with Ridge too, that was really fun. And I loved working with Bobbie Eakes.
We Love Soaps TV: Claudia and Macy got into it a few times.
Lilly Melgar: That was great, I love her.
