- Was determined to return to his first love, painting, after Jurassic Park. Steven Spielberg wanted Randy for Jurassic Park: The Lost World, but it needed a few phonecalls to convince Randy to again abandon his carreer and return to film. Randy was making adjustments to the animation of the Lost World until just two weeks before the film was released.

- Dutra had been working with Phil Tippett for 10 years before Jurassic Park (1993) presented itself. He had a long history as a key sculptor, creature designer, puppet fabricator and lead animator for Tippett. Seven years before Jurassic Park, in 1984, Dutra applied all of these disciplines to his work on the documentary Dinosaur.
