In a world replete with quick-spreading disinformation and the subsequent, dangerous proliferation of kooky conspiracy theories, the 2021 animated series "Inside Job" — created by Shion Takeuchi (a writer on "Gravity Falls" and "Disenchantment") — was perfectly timed. "Inside Job" posited that every single conspiracy theory you've ever heard — whether it be Reptilians, JFK, the Mandela effect, the flat Earth, or the faked moon landing — were all 100 percent real. Clones were out there, severed heads were being kept alive in labs, and aliens regularly visited Earth. Just like in "The X-Files," ordinary citizens weren't allowed access to this knowledge.
Earth's conspiracies were overseen by a mysterious underground organization called Cognito, Inc., one of six major shadow governments secretly in charge of the world. The other five were the Catholic Church, the Illuminati, Atlantis, the Reptoids, and the Juggalos (tee hee). The central joke of "Inside Job" was that Cognito, Inc. was staffed by flawed,...

With the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, there's been one term that's finally been dying down:
Reboot.
Now that the WGA strike is nearing its end, the term is returning in a big way, and it isn't easy to be excited about this piece of TV news.
The latest edition of the Puck newsletter broke the news that a reboot of the NBC iteration of The Office is in development.
The only bit of good news is that Greg Daniels, who brought the Steve Carell comedy series to life, will shepherd the new adaptation.
There are no details on where the potential series would air, but it's hard to imagine any network not jumping at the opportunity of bringing the iconic comedy back to life.
The Office launched on NBC in 2005 and aired for nine seasons through 2013, picking up numerous awards and acclaim.

It’s been 12 years since “Greek” wrapped its run on ABC Family — which of course, is now Freeform — but the cast is still hoping to see a revival of the show someday. And yes, that includes Jake McDorman.
While on the red carpet for his new Peacock series “Mrs. Davis,” McDorman was quick to jump on board when TheWrap floated the idea of a revival series, enthusiastically noting that he and his former co-stars all still talk regularly.
“Yeah! I’m still friends with all those guys, we talk all the time,” McDorman said. “The guys, we all kind of live close — in fact, I think, I talked to Clark Duke earlier, I think he’s gonna be here — but me, Scott, Pj, Jacob Zachar, Clark, we’re all still super close, so I know we’d be down.”

Particularly in light of his recent output, it's hard to think of a more remarkable career than that of Nicolas Cage. The man has had insanely high highs such as his Oscar-winning performance in "Leaving Las Vegas" and his starring role in blockbuster hits like "National Treasure." He's played a Marvel Comics superhero (Ghost Rider), he's starred in more direct-to-video movies than anyone can possibly recall, and he's turned in some legendarily wacky performances (see: "Vampire's Kiss"). He even battled himself in the summer of 1997.

Once upon a time, fans could relax once their show had been renewed for another season. Not any longer. Several shows have had their renewals rescinded in the past week, and we now have another one. Netflix has changed its mind and cancelled the Inside Job TV series, so there won't be a second season after all.
An adult animated sci-fi comedy series, the Inside Job TV show was created by Shion Takeuchi, a former Gravity Falls writer. It stars Lizzy Caplan, Christian Slater, and Clark Duke, with Andrew Daly, Bobby Lee, John Dimaggio, Tisha Campbell, and Brett Gelman. The story revolves around the shadow government and the dysfunctional team whose daily grind is committing the world's conspiracies -- from convoluted coverups to secret societies to masked orgy etiquette. The new streaming strategy of canceling shows that have already been renewed is here to stay. It's a heartless cost-cutting tactic, but it's one that's been employed more than once now by both Warner Bros. Discovery and Netflix. While the former canceled HBO Max's "Minx" after giving season 2 the greenlight and pulled TBS' "Chad" from the lineup right before it aired, the latter may have started the trend when it axed "Glow" in a stunning reversal of a previously announced renewal.
Now, Netflix is at it again with "Inside Job." The animated comedy about a company that manufactures global conspiracies aired a two-part, 18-episode first season across 2021 and 2022, and then it earned a second season renewal last June. But now series creator Shion Takeuchi has confirmed on Twitter that "Inside Job" is joining the great big cancelled shows pasture in the sky, as its second season isn't happening after all.

Netflix has swung the axe on “Inside Job,” the adult-animation conspiracy comedy, after one season, according to creator and showrunner Shion Takeuchi.
Takeuchi, a writer on “Gravity Falls” and other shows, announced the cancellation Sunday evening on Twitter. “I’m heartbroken to confirm that Netflix has decided to cancel Season 2 of ‘Inside Job,'” she wrote. “Over the years, these characters have become real people to me, and I am devastated not to be able to watch them grow up.”

Ryan Reynolds has pioneered the type of fast-talking, quippy characters that seem to be so popular with today's mainstream audiences. It's somewhat ironic that Reynolds is finding so much success right now because, for years, it seemed like he was doomed to be one of those great actors that nobody took seriously.
Reynolds appeared in several disastrous comic book movies that fell way beneath fans' expectations. He's not particularly bad in "Blade: Trinity," "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," or "Green Lantern," but the films did not give him the type of recurring roles that best suited his talents. However, "Deadpool" gave Reynolds a chance to both do his best work and reflect on his earlier failures. It's a testament to his belief in the project that "Deadpool" finally became the success that he had always suspected it would be. Following the positive reception to the film, Reynolds joined additional franchises with "Free Guy,...

Spirited is a Christmas musical comedy streaming on Apple TV+, starring Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds. It is co-written and directed by Sean Anders.
The tables are turned, and this Christmas it is the Ghost of Christmas Present who must do some reevaluating.
Premise
This year’s target of the Ghost of Christmas Present is the ruthless businessman, Clint Briggs. As Present describes him, “he’s like the prefect combination of Mussolini and Seacrest.” His dark soul must be reformed by a visit from three spirits. Things will not follow the traditional process, when Christmas Present has to contend with Briggs who will shrewdly subject the Ghost to his own journey through his past, present and future.
Spirited (2022) Movie Review
A movie that has Will Ferrell written all over it: it is edgy but within limits. It goes ever so slightly beyond the canons of Christmas movies, managing to bring us something outside the norm.

“Inside Job” was a show that premiered late last year on Netflix and featured a great cast that included Lizzy Caplan, Christian Slater, John Dimaggio, Clark Duke, and notable others. Upon watching the initial trailer, of course, there were some similarities immediately between “Inside Job” and “Rick and Morty” but not a larger part of any story or even the characters themselves portrayed as any direct similarities between the two sci-fi shows. If any of the cast members sound familiar that is because they have all, if not most, come from otherwise popular projects. Lizzy Caplan could be found previously

Last year, "The Croods: A New Age" found the titular character challenged by another prehistoric family called the Bettermans. More evolved than The Croods, it seemed like they had a much better life than Grug (Nicolas Cage), Ugga (Catherine Keener), Eep (Emma Stone), Thunk (Clark Duke), Gran (Cloris Leachman) and Guy (Ryan Reynolds), especially with better names like Phil (Peter Dinklage), Hope (Leslie Mann), and Dawn (Kelly Marie Tran). After the events of the feature film sequel, the two families found a way to co-exist, and Guy and Eep even moved into the Bettermans' huge house. Now a new animated series...

After eight years (probably hiding in caves), the Croods return neither older looking or none the wiser, but certainly hungrier than before in this second outing. It is a mix of rumbling tums and teenage hormones that kick-start this latest wild adventure for the oddball pack who are still sleeping as a ball of bodies and searching for a better place to live – preferably one that means they can stay alive for longer than a day.
Studio DreamWorks Animation understands that its young fans of the 2013 film are now teenagers and young adults, and as whacky and super-charged for kids as this colourful offering is, it is also stuffed full of teen concerns and parental nods to tedious adolescent behaviour to keep everyone entertained and highly amused this summer break.

Lizzy Caplan, Christian Slater and Clark Duke are set to lead the cast of Netflix’s adult animated conspiracy theory comedy series Inside Job, from Gravity Falls writer Shion Takeuchi and creator Alex Hirsch. Takeuchi and Hirsch revealed the cast today during Netflix’s Adult Animation Studio Focus at the Annecy Animation Festival, which also includes Andrew Daly (Veep), Bobby Lee (MadTV), John Dimaggio (Futurama), Tisha Campbell (Empire) and Brett Gelman (Stranger Thigns).
Inside Job is an adult animated comedy about the shadow government – and the dysfunctional team whose daily grind is committing the world’s conspiracies. From convoluted coverups to secret societies to masked orgy etiquette, navigating office culture at Cognito Inc. can be tricky, especially for anti-social tech genius Reagan Ridley. Even in a workplace filled with reptilian shapeshifters and psychic mushrooms, she’s seen as the odd one out for believing the world could be a better place.

The Truth is Out There, and Lizzy Caplan, Christian Slater and Clark Duke will find it in Netflix’s “Inside Job,” a new conspiracy theory office comedy animated series from “Gravity Falls” writer Shion Takeuchi and creator Alex Hirsch, both of whom have development deals with the streamer.
In an announcement made during Netflix’s Adult Animation Studio Focus at the Annecy Animation Festival, Takeuchi and Hirsch also revealed a supporting cast of A-list voice acting and live-action talent including Andrew Daly, Bobby Lee, John Dimaggio, Tisha Campbell and conspiracy theory nut go-to Brett Gelman.
Not venturing too far from the sweet spot that Takeuchi and Hirsch perfected with “Gravity Falls,” “Inside Job” will play in the supernatural fringes of our world and feature creatures, narratives and visuals ripped right from the conspiracy tabloid headlines of supermarket checkout lanes.

One of the toughest aspects for Mark Swift to nail down in producing the “The Croods: A New Age” was figuring out how to frame the Bettermans, the rival family that the Croods encounter. “We didn’t want the Bettermans to be your traditional bad villains. We wanted them to be a little misguided, a little snobby but then try to find what’s the thing that will drive the story,” he tells us in our recent webchat (watch the exclusive video above). He adds that the first half of the film came together very quickly but after that, many questions came up on how the story should proceed. “Where do we go with this family? What is the challenge their up against? How do they learn to work together? That, probably, was the part that took the most time for us.”

When Joel Crawford was directing Nicolas Cage’s voice performance for “The Croods: A New Age,” he would often get so caught up in what Cage was doing that he would briefly forget his responsibilities as a director. “He brings so much. It’s never just what I expect. I honestly forget to direct sometimes because I’m just enjoying the process of watching them perform,” the director tells Gold Derby in our Meet the Experts: Film Animation panel (watch above). One instance that comes to Crawford’s mind was when Cage’s character, Grug, goes into a monologue about bananas. To help frame the scene, Crawford played a track from the soundtrack to “Once Upon a Time in the West” because of its wistful feel. “Nic took that and extended it to tapping into everything about ‘Once Upon a Time in the West’ and turning into Henry Fonda.”

Sometimes a sequel can elevate an entire movie series, and that is certainly the case with The Croods: A New Age. The surprisingly hilarious and uplifting tale brings back the world’s “First Family.”
The film has them emerging from their Cavemen and Cavewomen habitat and entering a whole new landscape of what the clan thought was possible in this world when they meet the Bettermans.
The first thing that the entire Croods universe has going for it is stellar casting.
Nicolas Cage could not be a better choice to portray the family patriarch, Grug. Catherine Keener dazzles as the Mrs. (Ugga), while Emma Stone is every bit the teenage cave girl with her Eep. Filling out the family is Clark Duke as young teenager Thunk, and Cloris Leachman as Gran.

In a time when many families are opting to forgo the big, big get-together and reunion, perhaps they may want to try instead a big cinematic reunion. It’s one that’s seven years in the making, though this particular family goes back several thousands of years. One of 2013’s surprise box office hits was The Croods from the hard-working folks at Dreamworks Animation which was indeed a worthy addition to their Shrek, Dragon, and Kung Fu Panda franchises. So is this adventure worth a return to the caves, let alone the theatres (no streaming-on-demand for this one…yet) ? Well, let’s dust off the old “loin-cloth” and visit that “family down the street” for The Croods: A New Age.
It all starts with a fairly somber flashback as we witness young Guy’s last moments with his parents. Not to worry kids, we’re soon right in the thick...

Even admirers of 2013’s “The Croods” quite possibly never thought about it again until the announcement of “The Croods: A New Age,” opening in theaters for Thanksgiving and coming soon to streaming platforms. And while this latest adventure doesn’t meet the highest standards of DreamWorks Animation sequels — the second “How to Train Your Dragon” and “Kung Fu Panda” films outshone the first — this prehistoric saga maintains the clockwork-crafted comedy in a wildly colorful bygone era.
The titular Stone Age family faces new mashup species of predators, but they must also fend off the threat of snobby homo erectus gentrifiers.

In the beginning, there was “The Croods,” an agreeable enough 2013 cartoon about an overprotective early man named Grug (Nicolas Cage), who was so worried about the perils of the outside world that he kept his clan confined to a cave. Then his adventurous teenage daughter Eep (Emma Stone) met an outsider, Guy (Ryan Reynolds), and the family was forced to confront the possibility that maybe they had been a little limited in their thinking.
From that rudimentary concept, “The Croods” managed to conjure a surprisingly lavish CG world for these goofy cavepeople to explore — one in which the creatures and environments were so richly detailed, they easily distracted from the threadbare storytelling. (The movie was basically a feature-length sitcom treated as a runaway theme-park ride.) When all was said and done and the Crood family had learned its lesson, there was no organic reason to continue the story, but that didn’t stop DreamWorks Animation,...

What does one make of an animated sequel to a hit that’s been mostly forgotten in the seven years since it was released? The Croods: A New Age, directed by Joel Crawford and stacked with celebrity voices, may not feel particularly anticipated or necessary, but damned if it isn’t a joy to look at and clever enough to pass the time. It’s a slightly back-handed compliment to be sure, but maybe that’s okay. Where the perfectly-cute original film worked in a lot of muted tones to match the Stone Age aesthetic, Crawford’s follow-up introduces a new world of colors that pop. This alone may be worthy of a watch, particularly for families seeking entertainment this holiday season.

The Croods need a new place to live. So, the first prehistoric family sets off into the world in search of a safer place to call home. When they discover an idyllic walled-in paradise that meets all their needs, they think their problems are solved … except for one thing. Another family already lives there: the Bettermans.
