Step away Uncle Sam, because Canada is gradually becoming more and more aggressive as a cultural exporter! In fact, Rookie Blue and Shattered, two Canadian procedural scripted dramas, is coming to the UK.
First of all, according to Blogomatic3000, the UK's Hallmark Channel will be rebranded as the Universal Channel on October 18th. Besides, in order to celebrate this makeover, the newly born Universal Channel will organize the British premiere of two Canadian TV series that are broadcasted on Global, a Canadian TV network.
***
The first show will be Rookie Blue. In this show created by Tassie Cameron, Morwyn Brebner and Ellen Vanstone, we follow five rookies (Missy Peregrym, Enuka Okuma, Gregory Smith, Travis Milne and Charlotte Sullivan) of some unidentified Canadian (in this case Toronto) that epically fails to pass off as an American city.
The show also stars Matt Gordon, Melanie Nicholls-King, Ben Bass, Eric Johnson and Lyriq Bent...

Bryan Singer's revelation that "X-Men: First Class" will draw from James Bond grabbed some attention, and that got Chris Weston thinking about the current state of Bond films. Doug Tennapel, meanwhile, took a trip to see "The Expendables" and posted about that experience.
Elsewhere, Jim Lee shared a picture from a restaurant where some Joker artwork was gifted to him from an artist named Kristian Rowland. You'll find a link to that down below along with Ted Rall's account of being suspected of being a suicide bomber and what it's like to deliver a package to Warren Ellis' home.
I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is your Twitter Report for August 24, 2010.
@westonfront X-Men: First Class to be aesthetically inspired by the 60s Bond films. I wish the Bond films still were.
-Chris Weston, Artist ("The Authority," "The Filth")
@TenNapel I watched The Expendables with 6 pals. It was like going to church.

A few months ago, the first images of the upcoming Canadian TV series Shattered - which was shot in and around Vancouver, B.C. - surfaced on the net. Now, it's the turn of the show's first trailer to do the same thing.
First of all, this show created by Rick Drew is billed as a cross-over between A Beautiful Mind and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. Callum Keith Rennie (Californication) plays Ben Sullivan, a homicide detective with a Multiple Personality Disorder. In the first moments of the series, Ben is bonded in blood to his tough and beautiful partner Amy Lynch (Camille Sullivan). While they work to solve the murder cases that cross their desk daily, Ben copes with the fascinating complexities of his disorder that he doesn't want to reveal to anyone (except a psychologist) and the uncertainty of never knowing which alternate personality will surface, or when.

Toronto -- Kim Clements has been hired as showrunner for "Shattered," a character-driven Canadian cop drama from E1 Television being shopped stateside.
E1, which this week sold "Copper," another of its cop dramas, to ABC, has "Shattered" in development as a pilot at Canadian broadcaster Global Television and set for a Canadian series pickup.
John Morayniss, president of E1 Television, said "Shattered" has been shopped to the U.S. networks and a deal is expected before long.
The pilot for the cop drama from Force Four Films and E1 featured Callum Keith Rennie as a damaged recluse who solves crimes using his multiple-personality disorder.
Billed as " 'CSI' meets 'A Beautiful Mind,' the "Shattered" pilot also starred Laura Jordan as a special investigator who teams up with Kyle Logan (Rennie).

The eleventh issue of movieScope is on the stands. Online, readers can access an abbreviated edit of my conversation with Arnaud Desplechin (ah, wordcount!), as well as Adam Thursby‘s profile of actor Stephen Rea. Liz Hobbs writes up the Old Vic Theatre and explores the collaboration between stage and screen.
A portion of the cover feature on Darren Aronofsky’s The Wrestler is available by way of editor Eric Lilleør’s introductory editorial. At the “Fading In” sidebar Andy Conway wryly riffs on “Fundophobia, Draftophilia and the Addp.”
In the Insiders P.O.V. sidebar of the print issue, Mick Southworth & Martin McCabe reminisce on the bygone era of movie poster art in their essay “Coming Soon: The Art of the Quad.” Director Ron Oliver offers tips on directing children in his piece “Alligators Have the Right Idea.” Rick Drew recruits Seth Lochhead as a case study of what...

The tenth issue of movieScope has just hit the stands. Though it still hasn’t yet achieved North American distribution, I’m happy to report that its online presence has greatly improved though—as is often best with such film journals—subscriptions insure you don’t miss a single in-your-hands issue.
The current issue features not only my two entries but—within the Insiders P.O.V. sidebar—Rick Drew reports from the third annual Swf Screenwriters Festival held this past Summer near Cheltenham on the cusp of the Cotswolds. The bucolic locale afforded the unique experience to rub elbows and share collective wisdom with a stellar combination of legendary writers of screen, stage, and television, including Oscar®-winning screenwriters Christopher Hampton (Atonement), Julian Fellowes (Gosford Park), and Ronald Harwood (The Pianist); writer/director Mike Leigh (Happy-Go-Lucky, Vera Drake); and beloved novelist Terry Pratchett (the Discworld series), among others.
