Exclusive: Universal Pictures has landed the rights to the Brian Freeman novel Infinite, with Fast & Furious scribe Chris Morgan and Head of Development Ainsley Davies producing through their Chris Morgan Productions. Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer will write the script.
The story follows Dylan Moran, who after being consumed by grief after losing his wife, begins hallucinating sinister versions of himself, lurking in the shadows. When he ends up accused of murder, Moran undergoes a hypnotherapy treatment built on the idea that with every choice he makes, he creates an infinite number of parallel universes. It’s then he discovers he’s not insane at all. There’s another version of himself, from another reality. A psychopath that not only ruined his life, but countless other Dylans. Can Dylan stop this doppelgänger before he strikes again? Or will he lose himself…to himself?
The novel was published last month by Thomas & Mercer.

For years fans have been dream-casting “Firefly’s” Nathan Fillion as “Uncharted’s” Nathan Drake. Sadly the movie adaptation of the “Indiana Jones” meets “Tomb Raider” video game has been stuck in development purgatory for years. So Fillion went and made his own movie.
When the Naughty Dog video game dropped back in 2007, the physical similarities between Fillion and Drake were pretty apparent. Eventually “Spider-Man’s” Avi Arad, Chares Roven and Alex Gartner would begin to pursue a big screen translation penned by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer. Shortly after the movie news made it into the public sphere, Fillion revealed his desires to play Drake on Twitter. This proclamation started a whisper campaign that echoed in the halls of Comic-Con for years. But it was all for naught, as it’s been over a decade, and there’s still no “Uncharted” film.

Despite essentially being stuck in development hell for years now, Sony Pictures is still moving ahead with a big-screen adaptation of Uncharted! Variety is reporting that Joe Carnahan has signed on to pen the latest draft of the script for the upcoming adaptation of the wildly popular Playstation-exclusive video game series. Carnahan is now the latest in a long line of writers to have worked on at least one iteration or another of the film's script, following Mark Boal (Zero Dark Thirty), who was the most recent person to complete a draft, David O. Russell (Silver Linings Playbook), Thomas Dean Donnelly (Sahara), Joshua Oppenheimer (Sahara), David Guggenheim (Safe House), and Cormac & Marianne Wibberley (National Treasure). Carnahan also revealed that he's "only on board to write the script" and not direct due to scheduling conflicts with his upcoming production Bad Boys 3, which would seemingly suggest that Sony plans on starting...

"Forget everything that you think you know." Disney has unveiled a teaser trailer for Marvel's Doctor Strange, which just finished shooting in New York City last week. Benedict Cumberbatch stars as the Sorcerer Supreme, a comic book superhero that gains his special powers after meeting The Ancient One, played by Tilda Swinton. The full cast features Rachel McAdams, Mads Mikkelsen, Scott Adkins, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Stuhlbarg and Benedict Wong. This is just a teaser so they don't reveal too much (including his full cape costume) but what we do see looks pretty damn cool. A bit of The Matrix, a bit of Inception, and lots of Benedict Cumberbatch. I'm looking forward to this more than the next Avengers. Here's the first official trailer for Scott Derrickson's Doctor Strange, from Disney's YouTube: Benedict Cumberbatch plays Doctor Strange and Tilda Swinton plays The Ancient One. In some respects, the transition of the Marvel Cinematic Universe into its next phase puts audiences at something of a crossroads. It could be argued that the ‘old’ titles, such as Captain America and Avengers, are now more heavily reliant on brand loyalty – having so successfully built that brand with previous movies – while the ground is being prepared for the arrival of ‘new’ titles, such as Black Panther and Captain Marvel. Ant Man was one of the first of those ‘new’ titles, and was well received earlier this year, but with that movie checked off the list, all eyes are now on Doctor Strange, which is set to begin production in November 2015.
Little has been revealed about the film, beyond the casting of Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role, Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo, and Rachel McAdams as an undisclosed character. We also know...

Though The Avengers: Age of Ultron felt much more like the closing of a chapter, it was the release of Ant-Man last month that officially concluded Marvel Studios' Phase Two.
We've all heard plenty about Captain America: Civil War, which will kick off Phase Three, but what of the movie that will follow in its sizable footsteps?
Below, Digital Spy rounds up everything we know so far about Doctor Strange.
When's it out?
Doctor Strange is scheduled for release on October 28, 2016 in the UK, and a week later in the Us on November 4. Principal photography is due to start in November in London.
The release date has already been pushed back from the previously-announced July slot, presumably to accommodate the star's notoriously packed schedule.
What's it about?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, 12 Years a Slave star Chiwetel Ejiofor is being courted by Marvel to take on an unspecified role in Doctor Strange. Ejiofor could join Benedict Cumberbatch, who is starring as the surgeon turned sorcerer supreme Stephen Strange, aka Doctor Strange.
Marvel had no comment as talks are said to be in the early stages.
The site also says that he could be taking on the villain role of the film but some of their sources have said that's not the case. The villain is likely to be classic bad guy Baron Karl Mordo, a sorcerer’s pupil whose next-in-line status is usurped by Doctor Strange, thus making him the physician’s fierce rival.

Sony are clamouring for a new franchise following the disappointment of The Amazing Spider-Man‘s second instalment. After the recent baffling rumour that the studio are planning a spinoff featuring Peter Parker’s quaint Aunt May as a feisty spy, today they’ve stepped up their game. Literally. Their long-awaited video game adaptation, Uncharted, is pushing forward with Zero Dark Thirty scribe Mark Boal onboard to tackle the screenplay.
Boal joins a long list of writers who have previously had a stab at the script. Thomas Dean Donnelly, Joshua Oppenheimer, David Guggenheim and Marianne Wibberley all turned in drafts that failed to incite enthusiasm from the studio. Similarly, previously-attached director David O. Russell penned a draft which suffered a similar fate.
Where the continued problem exists in these versions is unknown, but the plague of problems the pic has already endured can’t be a promising sign. In addition to the wealth of writers,...

Everyone, calm down. It’s finally happened. Maybe. Probably. Oh, you know how these things go. Earlier this month, we reflected on the long, strange trip that had brought us to this crucial juncture in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: a Doctor Strange movie without, well, a Doctor Strange. Those days may now be over. Deadline reports that Benedict Cumberbatch is “the studio’s choice for the superhero pic, and negotiations are about to begin.” Again, no formal offers have been made, Cumberbatch has not accepted anything and nothing has been officially announced. Still, it’s no surprise that Marvel has acted relatively quickly to line up a new Sorcerer Supreme after their long-gestating chats with Joaquin Phoenix proved fruitless. The outlet doesn’t dispute rumors that other names were “in the mix,” including Jared Leto and Tom Hardy, but it should come as little shock that Cumberbatch has apparently come out on top. He...

Exclusive: Marvel has finally found its Doctor Strange. I’m hearing Benedict Cumberbatch is the studio’s choice for the superhero pic, and negotiations are about to begin. The news comes after talks with Joaquin Phoenix around the time of Comic-Con went south, and Marvel went back to the drawing board. With names like Jared Leto and Tom Hardy also in the mix, this is obviously a coveted role. I expect this deal to make.
Cumberbatch is in the Oscar hunt this year for The Imitation Game, the Alan Turing biopic that the Weinstein Co is priming for a November 21 release. His hot streak has included winning the Emmy for playing Sherlock Holmes on the BBC/PBS hit Sherlock.
Phoenix never had a deal, and Marvel quickly got into it with other actors to play Doctor Strange in a free-standing film.

Marvel Studios‘ talks with Oscar nominee Joaquin Phoenix to play Doctor Strange are kaput. He never had a deal, but Marvel already is getting into it with other actors to play that superhero in a free-standing film. Don’t believe these talks that Boyhood‘s Ethan Hawke has made a deal to play the character; I’m told reliably that that is speculation run wild. I understand Marvel’s belief that Phoenix would have been great for that role, in keeping with putting solid actors in those hero roles. But Phoenix, whose latest, the Paul Thomas Anderson-directed Inherent Vice, opens this weekend at the New York Film Festival. I’m not sure Phoenix is a Comic-Con kind of guy. Before Marvel started talking with him, the major names in the mix included The Drop‘s Tom Hardy, The Imitation Game’s Benedict Cumberbatch and Dallas Buyers Club‘s Jared Leto,...

At the end of last month, Joaquin Phoenix emerged as an apparent contender for Marvel’s anticipated Doctor Strange, a film that the studio has had its eye on producing for quite some time now.
Recent weeks have proven fruitless in terms of an official announcement from the studio, with a rumour surfacing in the past couple of days that Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire) is circling the role. But rumours being rumours, especially when it comes to comic book movies, you have to take things with a pinch of salt.
And whilst the same goes for this latest news, the source is much more reliable, with a source close to the project describing Joaquin Phoenix as being very close to signing a contract to take the lead as Steven Strange, better known as Doctor Strange.

Marvel has found a writer for their new Doctor Strange film.
The first draft of the film was scripted by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer. However, Deadline announced Marvel has been in contact with Jon Spaihts to re-write the first of several films starring Doctor Strange. Jon is working on The Mummy and The Black Hole remakes. He is also known for Prometheus, which was "not a prequel" of the Alien franchise...let face it, it Was.
Deadline also reported that Marvel is trying to get production rolling as soon as possible. This seems a little dangerous to me as this could spell disaster for the new franchise.

While Disney and Marvel have announced a director for their proposed "Doctor Strange" movie, little else about the project has been revealed, especially in terms of potential star or release date. But more details seem to be firming up, with a report that Marvel is close to hiring a new screenwriter (one that genre fans are, for better or worse, very familiar with) and a new actor being added to the list of potential Doctors.
Firstly, Deadline is reporting that Jon Spaihts, who made his initial splash on a sci-fi screenplay called "Passengers" that appeared on the 2007 edition of the Black List (a list that circulates around Hollywood of that year's best unproduced screenplays) and later contributed the first draft of what would ultimately become Ridley Scott's pseudo-prequel "Prometheus," is set to write "Doctor Strange." Three names remain in the frame for Marvel's Doctor Strange, as Jon Spaihts is hired to rework the screenplay...
News
We've still not got a release date for Marvel's Doctor Strange movie yet, but there's no doubt remaining that it's happening. Scott Derrickson - shortly to launch Deliver Us From Evil into cinemas - is the man with the job of directing the film. And the latest on the project is that Jon Spaihts is being recruited to work on the screenplay for the movie.
Spaihts is working on the reboot of The Mummy for Universal. He penned the original screenplay, pre-rewrites, for Ridley Scott's Prometheus too. He's now going to rework the original Doctor Strange script, that Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer put together.
Furthermore, the casting shortlist for the title role apparently remains centred on a trio of names. And those names? Tom Hardy, Benedict Cumberbatch and Jared Leto.

"Doctor Strange" is one step closer to casting a spell on the big screen. Screenwriter Jon Spaihts ("Prometheus," "The Darkest Hour") has signed on to pen the script for the forthcoming Marvel superhero entry, according to Deadline, with director Scott Derrickson ("Sinister," "Deliver Us from Evil") having signed on to helm the film earlier this month. Spaihts will be working off an earlier draft of the script written by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer. Based on the character created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko in the early 1960s, Strange is a former neurosurgeon who becomes schooled in the mystical arts and is eventually deemed Sorcerer Supreme - the primary protector of Earth against supernatural threats. Actors said to be in the running for the role include Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hardy and 2014 Oscar winner Jared Leto. No release date has been set for the film, which will unroll as...

Marvel’s plan to add Doctor Strange to its cinematic universe took a big leap forward earlier this month when Scott Derrickson was hired to direct the film based on the adventures of Dr. Stephen Strange. As part of the movie’s evolving state, the company is in the process of hiring Prometheus’ Jon Spaihts to re-write the script.Doctor Strange was originally conjured from the brains of Stan Lee and art genius Steve Ditko, and began life as a selfish New York surgeon who loses his professional skills in a car crash. After falling on hard times, he visits a healer in the Himalayas known as The Ancient One, and learns to tap into psychic powers. In recognition of his selfless efforts to thwart evil fellow disciple Baron Mordo, he’s taught the mystical arts and sets out to defeat other shady sorcerers and various villains.Thomas Dean Donnelly...

Oddly enough, Marvel Studios has yet to officially announce that they’re working on bringing Doctor Strange to the big screen, but all signs point towards a desire to put it on the fast track and release it sometime in 2016. Sinister director Scott Derrickson is at the helm (though, that too, is missing an “official” confirmation), and we’ve already heard that they’re looking at actors like Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hardy for the titular role.
Some new updates made their way online today, showing that the wheels are definitely turning, and the project is without a doubt headed our way. The first bit of new information came from Derrickson himself, who spoke to JoBlo about the film and his excitement to bring the Sorcerer Supreme to life:

While Marvel haven’t officially announced “Dr. Strange” or its director, Scott Derrickson (“Sinister" the upcoming "Deliver Us From Evil"), it’s clearly happening. And it appears they’re kind of starting over on the script level as Deadline reveals that Jon Spaihts (“Prometheus”) has been hired to write the script. Wait, hasn’t it already been written? Yes. The first draft was credited to Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer. But it sounds like Spaihts is mostly starting from scratch. Meanwhile, one of the early casting rumors seems to have panned out. At least, it appears that Jared Leto is on Marvel’s short list along with Tom Hardy and Benedict Cumberbatch. What that means? The studio is interested in these actors possibly playing the role. Have the actors even been contacted? Are they free, interested, etc? It still might be early days and as “Father Of The Bride 3” news recently revealed,...

Marvel Studios is negotiating with Jon Spaihts to write the script for Doctor Strange, which will be directed by Scott Derrickson according to Deadline.
The first draft of the Doctor Strange script was written by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer. I read that draft and it's hot. I don't know whether Spaihts will do a page one rewrite or keep the structure of what Donnelly and Oppenheimer wrote.
But that's not all, Deadline also says that Jared Leto is on the shortlist along with Tom Hardy and Benedict Cumberbatch to star.
Personally, Leto is my pick. He would crush it.

According to Deadline, Marvel Studios is in talks with Jon Spaihts to write the script for Doctor Strange. If that name is familiar, it could be because he's been attached to write Universal's reboot of The Mummy, as well as the first draft of Sir Ridley Scott's Prometheus. The plan is to get a script and put this movie in production as soon as possible, so don't be surprised if it's announced as Marvel's other 2016 movie. Oh, and that shortlist of actors including Tom Hardy and Benedict Cumberbatch? They've been joined by Academy Award winning actor Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club). The first draft of the Doctor Strange script was penned by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer. Would you guys like to see Leto get the part? Sound off below!

Marvel is reportedly assembling its cast list for the upcoming "Doctor Strange" movie with Tom Hardy and Benedict Cumberbatch said to be two of the big names on it.
The project is moving along fast now since filmmaker Scott Derrickson tweeted earlier this week that he will direct the film from a script by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer.
In the comics, the character is a self-centred New York surgeon robbed of his skills after a car accident. He soon finds his way to a healer in the Himalayas where he learned to tap into psychic powers to battle evil wizards and other wrongdoers.
The main issue with both actors is scheduling due to them already having various commitments elsewhere. Both of them starred together in 2011's "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy," the 2007 telemovie "Stuart: A Life Backwards," and both have played the main villain in a "Star Trek" film.

Yes, wish listed not short listed. There ain't no short list yet. Wish list stories are wack. Just because somebody is on a wish list doesn't mean you get them. For example, Jennifer Lopez is now a single lady and is numero uno on my wishlist but that doesn't mean I close.
Anyway, Mike Fleming at Deadline is reporting that Marvel has Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hardy on their wishlist to star as Doctor Strange. In my opinion, no story here. Those two bros are on every studio wishlist.
The story here though is that Fleming says director Scott Derrickson will direct the script by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer. A script I thought was tossed according to earlier reports. Now that doesn't seem to be the case. I hope not because that script was hot.

With Scott Derrickson set to direct Doctor Strange, the hunt for an actor to play the character has begun, and British actors Benedict Cumberbatch (Star Trek Into Darkness) and Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises) have emerged as early frontrunners for the coveted role in Marvel’s next big superhero franchise.
Derrickson will helm the movie from a script by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer (Conan the Barbarian), although other writers are still said to be in the mix.
Casting is obviously at a very early on for Doctor Strange (which many believe will be released alongside Captain America 3 in 2016), the fact that these two very impressive actors are on Marvel’s wishlist gives us an idea as to what to expect. Scheduling could prove to be an issue for them both however.
Hardy has Splinter Cell in the works, while Cumberbatch has a number of projects lined up as well.

Exclusive: Here’s some hot superhero dish to take into the weekend. There are reports tonight that Peyton Reed and David Wain are being considered for Ant-Man, but man, we are progressing down the comedy director food chain, and this is starting to feel stale. So how about Doctor Strange? Marvel is putting together its cast list, and I’m hearing that Tom Hardy and Benedict Cumberbatch are on it. While Marvel has teased this property with mentions in films including Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the film solidified and felt urgent when Scott Derrickson tweeted this week that he will direct the script by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer. We've been talking about a Doctor Strange movie here on Dread Central for a long while now, and with the pieces slowly falling into place, a short list of directors for the project has come to light. Read on to see who could possibly be bringing the Strange in a big way!
According to THR reporter Borys Kit on Twitter, the aforementioned directors includes Mark Andrews (Brave), Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies, All the Boys Love Mandy Lane), and Scott Derrickson (Sinister, The Exorcism of Emily Rose).
Given my familiarity and love for the character, I'd like to see Derrickson tackle it, but Levin is also a very inspired choice. Stay tuned.
The last actor they were looking at to assume the mystical role was The Dark Knight Rises, Looper, and Inception's Joseph Gordon-Levitt (pictured).

Marvel stole the show yesterday by releasing a number of featurettes and a new poster for Guardians of the Galaxy, but they’re already looking ahead to the future as the hunt is now said to be on for a filmmaker to helm Doctor Strange. Kung Fu Panda writers Jon Aibel and Glenn Berger are being considered to write the screenplay, while four directors are in contention.
Who are they? According to The Hollywood Reporter, those being considered are Mark Andrews (the co-writer and co-director of Brave), Nikolaj Arcel (the writer and director of Academy Award nominated foreign film A Royal Affair), Dean Israelite (the director of the Michael Bay produced Welcome to Yesterday), and Jonathan Levine (who helmed Warm Bodies and 50/50).

Looks like things are heating up on Marvel’s upcoming Doctor Strange movie. Ace superhero movie news reporter Borys Kit at the Hollywood Reporter is reporting that four directors have either met or are going to meet to take a meeting at Marvel to pitch themselves for the directing gig.
They are Mark Andrews who directed Brave, Nikolaj Arcel, who wrote and directed last year’s best foreign film Oscar-nominated entry A Royal Affair, Dean Israelite, the director behind Paramount’s upcoming sci-fi time-travel movie Welcome to Yesterday; and Jonathan Levine, the filmmaker behind Warm Bodies and 50/50.
Borys also reports that Jon Aibel and Glenn Berger, the writers behind the Kung Fu Panda movies, are also in the mix, not to direct the movie but to pen the screenplay.

Well this is interesting. According to our friends over at Latino Review, The Dark Knight Rises, Looper, and Inception's Joseph Gordon-Levitt could be in line to learn the mystical powers of Doctor Strange.
“Now at press time, we are not saying that an offer has been made, that talks have even engaged and who knows, Levitt and his team are probably unaware, But we are hearing that Marvel execs internally are discussing that Levitt is who they figure would be ideal,” the site reports, wording the news as carefully as possible.
The film is being penned by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer.

According to Latino Review, a trusted source is saying that Marvel Studios has been discussing Joseph Gordon-Levitt for the role of Doctor Strange. Of course take this with a grain of salt. A Doctor Strange movie has been in the pipeline over at Marvel for some time now - a Neil Gaiman / Guillermo del Toro version was mooted as long ago as 2008 - and all the prevailing wisdom now had it arriving as part of the studio's tranche of Phase 3 movies. Marvel head Kevin Feige confirmed plans along those lines recently. But what will it look like? Latino Review think they know.Back in mid-2011 there was news of a Doc Strange script turned in at Marvel by Conan writers Josh Oppenheimer and Thomas Dean Donnelly. The prediction then was for a release circa this year. Of course, that didn't come to pass, but Feige's enthusiasm for the property, far from waning, has burned brighter and brighter in the interim. "He represents this fantastic cosmic universe that hasn't yet seen life on screen", Feige enthused in 2001, "and I think he'd be amazing...

2011's Conan the Barbarian opened with a thud, only pulling in $16.6 million domestically in it's first ten days, and a paltry $5.5 million opening weekend overseas. The Lionsgate film cost around $70 million to produce and finished a few million shy of $50 million at the worldwide box office when it's run came to an end. The film was also panned by fans of Robert E. Howard's novels and Arnold Schwarzenegger's previous two Conan films. Critics were unkind to the film as well, it only garnered a 23% aggregate approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Who is to blame? Well, many will point their fingers at the screenwriters, but which one or two is deserves the scolding when their are four credited to the film? Screenwriters Thomas Dean Donnelly, Joshua Oppenheimer, Andrew Lobel, and Sean Hood all made contributions to the script. Perhaps this is why we haven't heard anything about Thomas...

Penn directed the improvisational poker player pic The Grand and had story credit on The Avengers and script credit on The Incredible Hulk and X-Men: The Last Stand.
