On November 28th, 1925, 94 years ago this week, the Wsm Barn Dance was born. Fashioned after the already popular National Barn Dance, which premiered in April 1924 on Chicago radio station Wls, the show would later be christened the Grand Ole Opry, after host George D. Hay noted that a slate of performers playing hillbilly music, fiddle tunes, and the like would follow a just-completed classical music program. On a Saturday night in 1927, just before harmonica whiz DeFord Bailey played “Pan American Blues,” Hay told the radio audience, “For the next three hours,...

By the late 1970s, a lengthy battle with drugs and alcohol had earned country music legend George Jones the pejorative nickname “No Show Jones,” as his concert and public appearances became more erratic and unpredictable. But on February 17th, 1998, with those struggles mostly behind him, the singer debuted his own music/talk show on Tnn, the Nashville Network, welcoming longtime friends and rising country stars of the era in a relaxed and informal setting.

Fifty-five years ago this summer, on August 4th, 1963, housewife Connie Smith won a talent contest in Columbus, Ohio, earning a performance spot on a local Grand Ole Opry concert where songwriter Bill Anderson took note of her and encouraged her to make a trip to Nashville when the two met again at a New Year’s Day concert in Canton, Ohio.
As 1964 unfolded for the young wife and mother, she garnered yet another invitation – this time a spot on the popular Ernest Tubb Midnite Jamboree, which followed the Grand Ole Opry on Wsm radio.

The Walmart yodeling kid ain't done yodeling yet -- he went straight from Coachella this weekend to play another, and seemingly much more important, gig in Nashville. Mason Ramsey performed Saturday night at the famous Grand Ole Opry, which has hosted the likes of country legends like Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Little Jimmy Dickens, and many, many more. The kid did his thing -- Hank Williams' "Lovesick Blues." Apparently, this was one...

Brad Paisley was obviously delighted to be the one to induct Chris Young on Tuesday night into the Grand Ole Opry – among country’s highest honors – but earlier in the day, Paisley wasn’t about to let it go to his friend’s head. At least not just yet.
After Young texted to say how much he appreciated Paisley for “wanting to be the one to induct me,” country’s jokester couldn’t resist.
“Yeah, man,” Paisley texted back. “I called the Opry two or three times but I couldn’t get them to change their minds, so I figured...

Chris Young couldn’t figure it out. Why was Vince Gill acting so strange?
First, Gill talked Young into switching sets with him on the Grand Ole Opry Tuesday night so that Young would go last. And now, after Young, 32, had sung three songs in his four-song set, here was Gill wandering out on stage, interrupting his performance.
But all this weird behavior was explained soon enough when Gill asked Young “if you’ll be the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry.”

So what did Brad Paisley think after seeing his exhibit for the first time at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum? Of course he couldn’t resist. He had to bring out his famous wit.
“When’d he die?” he deadpanned. “That’s what it feels like.”
But don’t think for a moment that the exhibit opening on Thursday wasn’t an overwhelming experience for Paisley and his entire family, including his wife, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, who had just lost her mother the day before from a long battle with dementia.

During the service, Carrie took the stage with Vince Gill to sing "Go Rest High on That Mountain," while Little Jimmy's longtime friend Brad Paisley presided over the celebration. The country music community gathered in Nashville on Thursday to say goodbye to legendary performer Little Jimmy Dickens, and not surprisingly, the focus was on his size: His huge smile and big laugh. His great heart. His enormous sense of humor. His larger-than-life stage personality. In fact if anything became abundantly clear during the two-hour funeral at the Grand Ole Opry House where Dickens had performed countless times, it was this: His height - all 4 feet 11 inches - was the only thing about Little Jimmy Dickens that was small. Longtime friend and fishing buddy Brad Paisley presided over the public celebration of Dickens's life,...

In a fast-moving digital world where catchphrases and memes disappear 20 minutes after they're declared cool, it must be especially frustrating to be Kanye West. It has now been two months since he crashed Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards, but the rest of the media world refuses to let West forget about it. West has apologized to Swift (both in public on national television and in a private phone conversation) and stayed out of the public eye since that fateful night at Radio City Music Hall, but it seems like any time anybody has an awards show, it crops back up again. Taylor Swift is starting to make this look too easy. The 19-year-old country superstar notched another record on Wednesday night when she became the youngest person ever to win the top prize at the 43rd annual Country Music Association Awards: Entertainer of the Year.
With tears in her eyes — and Kanye West nowhere in the house to cut her off this time — Swift asked her band to join her onstage to savor the feeling.
"I will never forget this moment because in this moment everything I have ever wanted has just happened to me," she said in accepting the major honor over four veteran male acts, all of whom she has opened concerts for in the past year.
