Lainey Wilson has recorded a new song with the Black Crowes that’s set to appear on Happiness Bastards, the rock group’s first album in 15 years. Wilson harmonizes with vocalist Chris Robinson on “Wilted Rose,” a gospel-tinged number.
According to Rich Robinson, the group’s guitarist, the seed for Wilson’s guest appearance was planted backstage at last year’s CMT Awards in Austin, where Wilson told the Robinson brothers that she was a longtime fan. The Crowes appeared on the CMTs to perform their hit 1990 ballad “She Talks...

Give Billy Strings the Halloween Championship Belt. The bluegrass picker and apparent pro-wrestling fan dressed up as Hulk Hogan to deliver a concert experience for the ages on Tuesday night at the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan. But Strings didn’t go it alone: each one of his bandmates and special guests, from Molly Tuttle to Sierra Hull, donned the costume of a classic wrestling character for a five-hour blowout of music and wrestling skits.
Dubbed the Van Andel Scramble, the concert streamed on Nugs.TV and played like a WWE pay-per-view.

Netflix’s “Stranger Things” was known for its nostalgic needle drops before the most recent season, but Season 4 catapulted the show’s soundtrack to a whole new level by putting Kate Bush back at the top of the charts decades after “Running Up That Hill” was first released.
But the “Stranger Things” Season 4 Volume 2 soundtrack isn’t without its own standout musical moments — including, yes, more Kate Bush.
The trailer for Season 4 features a remix of Journey’s “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)” which forecasts the impending sense of doom that comes with the latest, darkest installment of the Netflix tentpole, which contrasts very sharply with the use of Motley Crue’s “Home Sweet Home” and The Who’s “Baba O’Reily” in the trailer for summer-y Season 3. Even the upbeat duet of “Never Ending Story” solidifies the long distance relationship between Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) and Suzie Bingham (Gabriela Pizzolo).

Perhaps you’d heard but a fresh season of a little show called Stranger Things just arrived on Netflix’s servers. There are always plenty of reasons to get excited about new episodes of Stranger Things, and the seven new episodes presented in season 4 volume 1 are no different.
Operating under an “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” mantra, Stranger Things season 4 is absolutely packed with ’80s-set science fiction, horror, and adventure. Once again, our heroic kids from Hawkins must confront a mystery from the Upside Down. In this case, who is this demonic wizard Vecna and why is he so hopelessly addicted to breaking human bodies?
In addition to all of the usual fun plotting though, a new season of Stranger Things means a new batch of old music. Though creators The Duffer Brothers were born in 1984 and probably don’t remember a hell of a lot of the 1980s,...

As evidenced by the meteoric resurgence of Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill” after its appearance on “Stranger Things 4,” the show’s soundtrack has become just as much a phenomenon as its thrilling plot.
With the final two episodes of Season 4 dropping on Netflix today, Legacy Recordings has released the complete soundtrack to “Stranger Things 4” in digital and physical forms. The album contains six additional songs, including an extended version of Bryce Miller and Alloy Tracks’ remix of Journey’s “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart),” featuring the band’s singer Steve Perry.
“I was stunned at how cool it was,” Perry said of the original remix in a statement. “I found out that Bryce Miller and Troy MacCubbin had created it and told them how much I loved it. One week later, I had an idea for an extended version, so I called Bryce and we assembled our extended remix.

When Jim Steinman was producing Air Supply’s 1983 single “Making Love Out of Nothing at All” for the Australian duo’s Greatest Hits album, he called upon Seventies guitarslinger Rick Derringer to add a majestic solo to the power ballad. Two years later, Derringer got Steinman to return the favor, recruiting the producer-composer — who died Monday at 73 — to contribute a song to The Wrestling Album, the 1985 musical lark by the musclebound stars of the then-wwf.

When the veteran luthier Sherwood Phifer goes out to hear live music, he hears elements of the guitar that the vast majority of even the most serious audiophiles could never pick up on. An amateur guitarist himself, Phifer has been building high-end customized instruments for roughly 45 years, so when he listens, he’s not hearing a performance merely as a fan or a fellow musician but also as one of the most respected luthiers in the country.

Tim Bogert, who was part of such major acts as Vanilla Fudge and Cactus, and later in the super-group Beck, Bogert & Appice, died today of cancer at 76. His death was confirmed by his former bandmate Carmine Appice.
At his death, he was working with Beck and Appice on a forthcoming live Beck, Bogert & Appice album
Bogert was long considered one of the great rock bassists during the heyday of the genre in the 1960s and ’70s, one of the few early rockers whose solos could hold an audience.
Musicians Institute, a Hollywood music school where Bogert taught, issued a statement mourning his passing.
“Today we mourn the loss of our friend and former faculty member, #TimBogert. It’s been three decades since Ringo Starr founded his All Starr supergroup and took the stage with some of rock and roll’s biggest luminaries, creating an exceptional legacy of performances of some of the greatest hits of all time culled from Starr’s extraordinary catalog as a solo artist and as Beatle, as well as the All Starr Band members’ substantive songbook.

If you’ve ever listened to The Wrestling Album, the WWF’s 1985 curiosity that cast its muscled superstars as singers, you can hear why producer Rick Derringer figured he needed an actual vocalist for the 1987 follow-up, Piledriver: The Wrestling Album II.
Sandwiched in among colorful rasslin’ managers like Jimmy Hart and Slick and grapplers the Honky Tonk Man and Hillbilly Jim was Robbie Dupree, the soft-rock singer-guitarist who had a pair of hits in 1980 with the dangerously smooth “Steal Away” and “Hot Rod Hearts.” For Piledriver, he leaned hard into the theme of the latter,...

Twenty-nine years ago, Yes lead singer Jon Anderson abandoned a half-finished solo album called Uzlot that he’d been been recording in Big Bear, California, with his bandmates Chris Squire and Alan White. Yes were gearing up for a massive reunion tour and he simply put the master tapes in his garage and gave them very little thought as the years started racing by. But just a couple of years ago, producer Michael Franklin reached out to Anderson to see if he’d let him take the tapes and finish the album.

Nearly 30 years ago, Yes frontman Jon Anderson began work on a solo album with help from his bandmates Alan White and Chris Squire. He never got around to finishing it and eventually got sidetracked by Yes work, but recently went back into the studio to complete the album with help from producer Michael T. Franklin. Anderson originally called the project Uzlot, but now that it’s finally done, he’s calling it 1,000 Hands. It comes out March 31st.

His national notoriety, however, began when he joined the then-WWF in 1984, one year before pro wrestling, and the WWF in particular,...

Rick Derringer’s been in the news for the last 24 hours because he brought a loaded gun on an airplane. The classic rock singer and guitarist has pleaded guilty and agreed to pay a $1,000 fine after stepping off a Delta Air Lines flight from Mexico with a loaded handgun in Atlanta’s airport. Derringer told a federal air marshal he kept his gun with him on commercial airline flights 30 to 50 times a year, and never before had a problem carrying it through airport checkpoints, prosecutors said. Tsa spokesman Mark Howell said earlier that the agency investigates such statements

One of my favorite contemporary designers is Jessica Hische, a lettering artist whose best known movie poster work is her typeface design for Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom. Hische is a prodigiously talented and endlessly inventive artist who has brought renewed recognition to the art of lettering and whose covers for Barnes and Noble Classics and Penguin Drop Caps are gorgeous. I mention this because I recently discovered the poster work of another extraordinary letterform artist from an earlier era, via this magnificent poster for Louis Malle’s Atlantic City.Gerard Huerta is a letterform and logo designer who got his start with CBS Records in the early 70s where he created album covers and logos for Boston, Ted Nugent, Rick Derringer, Bob Dylan and many others. While the five year wait between main series entries has been agonizing for some, the October launch of Rock Band 4 is almost upon us. With the calendar switching over to August, the developer has once again announced a new batch of tracks.

This Sunday is the biggest day on the calendar year for those of us who still prefer this Steve Austin over the one from The Six Million Dollar Man and who still get the urge to patriotically tear off our shirts whenever this terrible Rick Derringer song kicks in. It’s WrestleMania XXX (that’s XXX as in “30,” not in porn terms), and it’s airing live from New Orleans on Sunday night.
I’m particularly excited for this iteration of the show thanks to the development that has completely re-aligned the way I watch and think about the WWE’s theatrical grappling arts.

President Obama was introduced with an intentionally cheesy video package (picture Barney Stinson's video resume from "How I Met Your Mother") set to Rick Derringer's "I Am A Real American" and featuring a repeating shot of his birth certificate set against an American flag background. Obama addressed the birther issue in his speech as well, announcing "I am prepared to go a step further...I am releasing my official birth video," which turned out to be the opening number from The Lion King. The president even had a few choice words for Donald Trump.

Last week, I described the greatest purchase of my life ...Rick Derringer's 1958 tobacco sunburst Gibson Les Paul. Working two jobs and saving money for over a year, I paid $650 on May 2nd, 1972, for a guitar now worth six figures... Here's the story of how Jeff Beck tried to intimidate me into selling it to him... Poor Rick Derringer! About 5 months after selling me his 'back up' 1958 Les Paul, someone on the guitar grapevine told me that Rick's 'main' guitar, a 1959 cherry-sunburst Les Paul had been stolen. This was an all-too-common occurrence for rock stars on the road back then. Airlines, in particular, were notorious for "losing" or destroying guitars. One afternoon, just before the holidays, my phone rang. It was Rick. With a sort of tired, apologetic, voice-of-authority, he said, "Hey kid, look, I'm sorry, I really am,...

The streak is over! On Tuesday night (July 13), the National League broke an incredible streak of futility and topped the American League by a score of 3-1 in the 2010 Major League Baseball All Star Game. In winning the Midsummer Classic, the National League will now have home field advantage at this year's World Series. Though Atlanta Braves catcher Brian McCann walked away as the Mvp of the game (his three-run double represented all of the offense for his squad), there were also great performances from New York Mets third baseman David Wright, Chicago Cubs outfielder Marlon Byrd and pitchers Ubaldo Jimenez, David Price, Matt Capps and Jonathan Broxton. It was an excellent game, especially if you like pitching, as there were a tremendous number of strikeouts spread across nine innings.

Some of the best concerts result from last-minute ticket purchases, and Wednesday night's performance by Ringo Starr and his All-Starr Band at Radio City was no exception.
