The Adam Ahlbrandt directed double feature Cross Bearer and The Cemetery has been making the rounds at Cannes, and we have more details on both, including artwork, trailers, and a few stills.
The films were picked up for German speaking territories by Illusions Unlimited, an Austrian Uncut Distribution Company. CEO Emsch Schneider said, "These movies are very cool and gory. Cross Bearer is a back-to-the-roots slasher, and The Cemetery is a gory and violent flick with amazing practical effects. We're honored to release these brutal movies Uncut in German speaking territories." We should hear more about a North American release and other territories shortly.
In The Cemetery (official site here) a team of paranormal investigators must fight for their lives after accidentally releasing a demon from a forgotten cemetery. Alternately gut-punching hilarious and brutally violent, The Cemetery takes the best elements of the old-school slasher film and pushes them to the edge.

Porkchop from Independent Entertainment and Alternative Cinema is a well-done satire homage to classic low budget 80s slasher cinema. Directed and produced by Eamon Hardiman, a native of Charleston, West Virginia, a location not to far from The Liberal Dead’s main headquarters in eastern Kentucky. The film revolves around a group of six young campers and a robot that retreat into the backwoods of West Virginia for a weekend of booze, drugs, and wild sex inside the abandoned Camp Wood. Soon, a weekend of debauchery turns into a fight for survival when the campers are hunted by a chainsaw-wielding psychopath in a pig mask looking to spill the blood of all those who roam into his territory. The film stars Ruby Larocca, who readers may remember from Evan Makrogiannis’ The Super, Erin Russ (Devil Sister), Ford Austin (Dahmer Vs. Gacy) and Brian Gunnoe. Porkchop will be hitting DVD on December 6th and digital markets.

Two microbrewers find themselves up the creek after a witch curses their beer and it starts killing off anyone that drinks it.
Lately, horror films in general have been so serious in tone that they have forgotten about that sense of wonder or fun that made a lot of the horror films of yesteryear so popular with fans of the genre. Witch’s Brew harkens back to those days when horror films used to be fun, when they wanted to provide audiences with a good time. Witch’s Brew allows writer/director/producer Chris Lamartina to go full throttle in terms of creativity. He just really goes for it. Aside from German-language release Lollipop Monster by Franziska Riemann and Larysa Kondracki's thriller in mainstream theaters, The Whistleblower, there's a bunch of shit to check out this summer.
Also in theaters is director/writer Miranda July's fantasy film The Future (see our review) opening on August 5th, 2011. This is July's second feature as director, the first being Me and You and Everyone We Know, which everyone who loves arty movies said was amazing. There's a talking cat and romance and a goregous beauty to The Future. Watch the stunning trailer:

"When they ran for student council... they didn't know... they'd be running for their lives!"
From no budget indie horror director Chris Lamartina (Book of Lore) and starring destined to be cult icon Shawn C. Phillips comes President's Day. The critically acclaimed slasher deals with a high school election that turns deadly when a homicidal maniac dressed like Abe Lincoln starts killing off candidates.
According to people close to the film's distribution, President's Day is heading for a early to mid July release on both the DVD and Blu-Ray formats with a director's commentary. How patriotic it would be to see some good old slashings and beheadings at the hands of one Mr. Abe Lincolin in time for the fourth of July!

At some point in our lives, all of us are expected to brave the terror of falling out of the nest and trying to fly on our own.
For some of us, that means college; for others, immediate employment or attempting to get it. But regardless of future plans or goals, it usually involves scrounging together rent money and curb-diving for couches that don't smell like urine, and we wind up living in shady apartment buildings. Add to that the real estate market of New York City, where for a few thousand dollars a month you can live in a shoe box (parking space fees not included), and you've got the general feeling of despair and hopelessness that permeates The Super.

One day, part of the world goes mad. Completely insane. They have....The Sickness.
A few survivors from the area escape to a farmhouse barn with hordes of rabid crazed people right outside and all around the area. They're hungry for flesh and blood.
In this process we'll see flashbacks of how all the survivors came to this barn and when they first encountered those with The Sickness.
Many have lost loved ones and family members.

Damien Colletti is a young talent that has already been involved in movies, television and even professional wrestling and he's really just beginning. Check out what we talked about below, everything from how he got into the business to the cool projects he's working on now to his love of horror movies and Taco Bell.
Brian S- Hey Damien, first off how did you get into acting?
Damien- Acting was something I’ve always wanted to do and thought about. I remember watching Arnold Schwarzenegger’s films (Conan the Barbarian, Terminator, etc.) when I was younger and loving them. I thought to myself to be like Arnold would be the life and I’d love to do what he’s doing one day! Lol. My mother, Cathy Lyons Colletti, was a successful theater actress (also a produced playwright, published writer, and director) so I was around acting at a very...

America's 16th president Abraham Lincoln goes on the rampage in the independent horror film President's Day.
The film, which had an exclusive screening in Morgantown, West Virginia, last Friday, is described as "a gruesome horror-comedy that's inspired by a healthy mix of presidential politics and campy 80s slasher films, where a high school election turns deadly after a homicidal maniac dressed as Abraham Lincoln starts murdering the candidates."
The filmmakers say the result is an amalgam of Election and Sleepaway Camp Part 2. There is also social satire as all the characters have names that echo those of the last Us presidential election.
Featuring performances by George Stover (John Water's Desperate Living and Polyester), Ruby Larocca (Flesh for the Beast, Lord of the G-Strings), and Shawn C. Phillips (star of YouTube's The Don and Murph Show), President's Day made its debut at the Charles Theatre in Baltimore in February.

Here at JustPressPlay, we get a lot of solicits from independent productions announcing their latest project. A lot of them have a hard time standing out, but once in a while, there's a movie that comes across our way that's just too attractive to ignore. Yes, I'm using "attractive" liberally here—after all, the movie is called Dogshit.
Just what the hell is Dogshit? It appears to be a surreal post-apocalyptic live action-animation hybrid from director Jimmy Creamer, better known (among his subjects, I guess) as speedcore artist "ScreamerClauz." Check out the crazy synopsis of his film, then the 5-minute trailer below.
Society is ruled over by a giant dog that is using the recent surge of monster attacks to try and convince his people to sign up for "optional" brain surgery. A self appointed "monster hunter" in a pink bunny suit (Brandon Slagle - Kinky Killers, Methodic) is the...

Wow. Honestly, I don’t know what to say. It’s written and directed by Jimmy Creamer, aka ScreamerClauz, and they’re halfway through the shoot, with a late 2010 release date (around Halloween) expected. It’s … different, I’ll give it that. Society is ruled over by a giant dog that is using the recent surge of monster attacks to try and convince his people to sign up for “optional” brain surgery. A self appointed “monster hunter” in a pink bunny suit (Brandon Slagle – Kinky Killers, Methodic) is the only person brave enough to stand up to the creatures but soon runs into trouble when his girlfriend (Ruby Larocca – Shadow: Dead Riot, Ice Cream Sunday) is kidnapped by the Macaroni Gang. He goes on a warpath through the seedy underworld of The Dog’s dystopian society while trying to fight hallucinations brought on talking worms living inside his large intestine.

Wow! This is exactly the kind of experimental diddy I love, just like Psychotropica. A Dog ruled world, a live action/animation blend, the bunnies girlfriend gets kidnapped by the Macaroni Gang? I'm so in.

Interview by Andrew Shearer
“If she’s a bitch, I don’t want to know.” That’s what I said to a friend of mine who shot a movie with Ruby Larocca last summer. Having been a fan of her work for several years, a champion of the goofy erotic spoofs like Sexy Sixth Sense and Erotic Werewolf In London, I couldn’t handle knowing I owned so many DVDs starring some stuck-up diva asshole. As it turned out, not only did she receive high praise from everyone involved with the shoot, but she proved to be much more than just a skilled performer. Not only did she fulfill her obligations as an actor, but she helped the crew pack up the gear and even volunteered to provide transportation at the last minute. With a decade of low-budget film making experience under her belt, it’s no wonder Ruby Larocca...

Fango just got word of a new feature called Horrotica (no relation to our own upcoming Fangorotica) that starts principal photography this week in the New York/New Jersey era. Produced by Laughing Duck Media, it’s a horror/comedy directed by Marc Leland and starring a bevy of indie fright-flick starlets and stalwarts, headed by Tiffany Shepis (pictured).
Shepis plays B-movie actress Gina Sklar, whose attempts to track down stolen footage from her latest flick with the help of her number-one fan (Tim Mandala) lead her into some scary situations. The cast also includes J. Edmund Ford (as a producer named Lonzo), Flesh For The Beast’s Ruby Larocca, Penny Dreadful’s Tina Krause, busy newcomer Nicola Fiore, Carl “Doc” Burrows and The Blood Shed’s Alan Rowe Kelly. Frequent Kelly collaborator Tom Burns is doing the music, while Blood Night: The Legend Of Mary Hatchet’s Jeremy Selenfriend handles the makeup FX.

The minute I got the go ahead for this blog, I e-mailed Victor Bonacore hoping to score a sit down. After meeting at the La Fangoria Weekend of Horrors in early 2008, I had quickly become a fan of his short films, and I wasn’t the only one. Not only has Bonacore won praise from numerous critics for his shorts Pretty and Eat Me (which have found distribution in the UK), they have been screened at festivals around the world. Most recently, his music video for Johnnie Lee Jordan’s The Wigly premiered, garnering early raves for his unique take on the love song. Infusing his work with a rare blend of horror and romanticism, and recently founding the production company ChainsawKiss, Bonacore is determined to expand his work. And with 2009 seeing the completion of no less then three shorts, he is truly a talent to look out for.
