- Brother-in-law of Volker von Collande.
- German character actor, on stage from 1925. Long residencies at theatres in Berlin and Hamburg. On screen from 1930, generally in diverse supporting roles ranging from lawyers and academics to maritime workers or small time crooks. Dahmen found stardom late in life, as Obersekretär Koldehoff, in the TV series Hafenpolizei (1963).
