CBS Reveals Huge Shakeup
A major shakeup is taking place at CBS. The first took place on The NFL Today show. The show’s hosts Boomer Esiason and Phil Simms announced they won’t return in Fall 2024.
Both of them are moving on to different ventures. Boomer was the first to announce his departure. He broke the news on his morning radio show, Boomer and Gio.
“For the last two months, you know, I’ve been trying to figure out what I wanted to do and where I want to be. I am stepping away from The NFL Today on CBS, more their decision than maybe mine, but I really thought that the Super Bowl was my swan song,” Boomer said.
He will continue his radio show.

It was time.
Boomer Esiason seemed almost relieved as he discussed his departure this week from his The NFL Today cohosting duties, saying he was planning on leaving anyway.
It was announced this week that Esiason and former New York Giants quarterback Phil Simms will no longer be on the show.
Esiason said Friday during an interview on The Dan LeBatard Show that he is trying to find a better work-life balance.
“I was more than happy to step aside. I had my time there,” Esiason said. “I loved that seat. I cherished that seat, I cherished talking to football fans every Sunday, but there comes a time when you have to find some time for yourself. And this was the right time.”

“Without football, what are we going to talk about?” asked the NFL Today’s Nate Burleson in the pro-football thick cold open to Saturday Night Live. “I mean, does anyone have anything remotely insightful to say?” the Devon Walker-portrayed satirical version of the former Detroit Lion added.

The “NFL on CBS” broadcast crew may have delivered brilliant insights at halftime of the AFC Championship game today between the Cincinnati Bengals and Kansas City Chiefs.
Unfortunately, it was almost impossible to hear what they had to say. That’s because the halftime show music from country artist Walker Hayes overpowered the sound levels in the broadcast booth.
Massive speakers for the Hayes show at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City were positioned right behind the mobile set where the CBS analysts were pontificating. That made it almost impossible to discern anything said by host James Brown or analysts Phil Simms, Bill Cowher, Nate Burleson and Boomer Esiason.
At one point, Esiason said: “I didn’t hear anything you just said.”
The network shares some of the blame. During the regular season, halftime analysis emanates from a studio in New York, where the sound and lighting can be controlled. However,...

The NFL is canceling its annual Hall of Fame Game, which this year was to feature the Dallas Cowboys against the Pittsburgh Steelers on August 6 on NBC. The traditionally preseason opener in Canton, Ohio, the home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, is played ahead of the hall’s induction ceremony, which has now been postponed.
Both events were scrubbed because of concerns over the coronavirus pandemic, according to a report on the league’s website. The NFL is still planning a full season that would start September 10; both the Cowboys and Steelers would have started training camps early due to the game but now are expected to convene with the rest of the teams at the end of July.
The league has been adamant that its 2020 season would begin on time. It held its draft virtually earlier this year. It’s unclear whether today’s decision could impact the currently planned four-week preseason.

Tim Cook, Lachlan Murdoch, Shari Redstone, Brian Roberts, Mark Zuckerberg and Bob Iger are among the media and technology moguls who will be touching down in Sun Valley, Idaho, in July for Allen & Co.’s annual media conference.
The invite-only confab is a chance for the one-percent of the one-percent to break out their windbreakers and jeans, and give the power suits a rest while biking and hiking in alpine splendor. It’s also historically been the locus of deal-making. Comcast’s purchase of NBC/Universal, the Washington Post’s sale to Jeff Bezos and Disney’s pact for Capital Cities/ABC were all hatched at Sun Valley. The conference was also the birthplace of some less successful mergers, namely AOL’s disastrous marriage to Time Warner.
In recent years, as technology and streaming have upended the traditional entertainment business, the biggest stars at Sun Valley have hailed from Silicon Valley.

'Coach' and 'The Chin' weren't enough ... so now Bill Cowher can also go by 'Grandpa' -- his daughter Lindsay and her husband, Lakers forward Ryan Kelly, just had their first baby. The baby ... For the second week in a row, Thursday Night Football addressed domestic violence during its broadcast. CBS Sports' Bill Cowher said he thought most in the NFL were upset by the damage recent domestic violence scandals were inflicting on the league's image, while Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Lovie Smith condemned domestic violence in a prerecorded interview broadcast during the pregame show. "You don't have to tell a man he shouldn't hit a woman," Smith told CBS' James Brown. "When you're dealing with your children, what's more precious than our kids?" Unlike last week, the pregame show didn't dedicate its entire

Thursday Night Football is finally here and before CBS' big premiere, we've asked the commentators, analysts and anchors to share memories of their very first football game.
"I was 14-years-old and my dad took me to Pitt stadium where the Steelers used to play," Bill Cowher tells us in the video below. "I remember John Henry Johnson and 'Cannonball' Butler — I just loved those names — and I remember watching what those guys did on the sidelines ... in between plays."

NFL analysts condemned Ray Rice for domestic abuse and applauded the Baltimore Ravens' decision to cut the controversial running back in a conference call today. "As a father of three daughters it is inexcusable," NFL analyst and former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher told reporters, adding it was "absolutely the right thing" for the Ravens to fire Rice. The comments emerged during a call publicizing CBS's Thursday Night Football. "There's no way you should even condone having that person in the building," Cowher said. Former cornerback Deion Sanders, who once played on the Ravens himself, added that "In light of what

Former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Bill Cowher managed to escape a car accident without injury in New York City on June 23. Both he and the woman at fault for the accident did not need to be taken to the hospital.
According to The New York Daily News, Cowher was driving north in Manhattan in a Mercedes-Benz when a woman going in the same direction driving a Ford Fusion cut him off in an attempt to turn onto E. 92nd St. Cowher's car hit the woman's, and the Ford Fusion hit nearby scaffolding and cracked a pole.

No matter how uncomfortable the CBS Sports team may have felt during the Super Bowl’s 30-minute blackout, it pales in comparison to the awkwardness their Saturday Night Live parodies exuded during the show’s cold open. James Brown (Kenan Thompson) tries his best to keep the conversation rolling, but soon finds his colleagues have exhausted their analysis of the blackout. “As I’ve said seven times in the past fifteen minutes, I can see it having advantages for both sides,” opines retired N.F.L. coach Bill Cowher (Tim Robinson). In case you haven't heard, there's a big football game down in New Orleans on Sunday.
That's highly unlikely, especially if you're a viewer of CBS, which for the past week has put on an all-out blitz of programming related to Super Bowl Xlvii from the Big Easy. The eye network has deployed its news, sports and entertainment divisions at what it's dubbed CBS Super Bowl Park at Jackson Square in the French Quarter, offering reports on what's been happening there the past week, ranging from night life and celebrities in New Orleans to the recovery from 2005's Hurricane Katrina and, of course, what the teams involved have been up to.
So by now, you should be up to speed on all things New Orleans.

Along with fellow Steelers members Ben Roethlisberger, Troy Polamalu, Mike Wallace and former Steelers coach Bill Cowher, ex-football player Hines Ward was given a brief cameo as a member of the Gotham Rogues football team, who is seen in the trailer sprinting for a touchdown while the football field behind him collapses thanks to Bane. From Ward: I've run scared before but I really ran scared that day," Ward told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "They told me, 'Don't look back.' I felt the explosion when I was running. I had to wear earplugs. Usually, I'm smiling when I'm running, but that day I was actually screaming. The Dark Knight Rises is directed by Christopher Nolan(The Prestige, Inception) and stars Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Tom Hardy, and Anne Hathaway. The film will be unleashed upon audiences on the 20th of this month.

From MTV News: The NFL lockout might be over, but life for the Pittsburgh Steelers was certainly not back to usual on Saturday, when Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight Rises" swooped into Heinz Field and recast the team as the Gotham Rogues.
Clad in familiar black-and-gold uniforms, the Steelers-turned-Rogues included Ben Roethlisberger, Hines Ward, Willie Colon, Troy Polamalu and Heath Miller, according to multiple local reports. Former Steelers coach Bill Cowher returned to the sideline to play the Rogues' coach. Cowher and crew were joined by more than 10,000 extras, bussed in to film a fictional game between the Rogues and the Rapid City Monuments.
The shoot itself dives into some spoilery territory, so if you'd like to remain blissfully unaware of the goings-on in Gotham during "Dark Knight Rises," in which Batman faces off against Bane, turn back now!

This is a list of 10 Real But Ridiculous 2011 Super Bowl Prop Bets — all of which have nothing to do with the actual game itself — along with their odds (explained here) and my supremely expert betting advice that is absolutely Guaranteed to win you CA$$$$$H!!! (Not really). Enough brief explaining, let’s get to the bet$: 10. How long will Christina Aguilera hold the note “Brave” at the end of the National Anthem? (Time starts from when she starts saying “Brave” until her the note ends. If she says the full word twice wagers will be No Action.) Over 6 seconds: -140 Under 6 seconds: Even Bet: Under. This is a classic prop bet where the odds are clearly titled towards the more fun/ridiculous option to bet; it’s amusing to bet money that Christina Aguilera will hold a note for a stupidly long amount of time, but is anyone actually...

Is Super Bowl-bound Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, accused in two sexual assaults, a changed man? It's an irresistible storyline-and irrelevant. What matters is he's a winner, says Buzz Bissinger.
The most telling moment of last Sunday's playoff game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Jets for the American Football Conference Championship came in the fourth quarter. The Jets were driving to close the score to 24-19. But it was the television shot of Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger on the sidelines that interested me the most. It was all in the eyes, unmoving, not even a single blink, aimed at a faraway distance only he could see.

Joe.My.God points us to a New York Times story about how evangelical pastors are hosting parties to watch Mixed Martial Arts fights to “toughen up” their flocks. They think America has raised a generation of “little boys.” I’m sure the fact that about half of all Mma fights look like soft-core adult gay films has nothing to do with it.
Sanjay Sharma, the director of the gay-themed Dunno Y . . . Na Jaane Kyun doesn’t anticipate problems getting his film past censors. He may have a point, since he’s the only person who knows what the movie is about.
Evidently scientists have figured out spray-on glass. It’s ridiculously thin, and can be put on anything, making it germ proof because it’s so slick nothing can stick to it. It’s even flexible, meaning it could eventually be sprayed on clothing.

The Waterboy
Directed by: Frank Coraci
Cast: Adam Sandler, Kathy Bates, Henry Winkler
Running Time: 1 hr 30 mins
Rating: PG-13
Due Out: August 4, 2009
Plot: A losing football team enlists its gentle yet aggressively sensitive water boy (Sandler) Bobby Boucher to boost their defense and team morale.
Who’s It For? Most obviously, anyone who can appreciate the zanier side of Adam Sandler. But the inclusion of notable figures from the football world, like Bill Cowher and Jimmy Johnson, will entertain sports fans alike.
Movie:
Fitting nicely into a classic triumvirate consisting of Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore, Adam Sandler’s The Waterboy is another proud moment in his comedic career that makes the most out of a paper thin premise. The humor is successfully wacky, especially with the full support of seasoned faces likes Winkler and Bates. The memorable characters of The Waterboy even make the goofy movie a bit endearing,...

NEW YORK -- Super Bowl-winning head coach Bill Cowher will join CBS' The NFL Today in the studio for the 2007-08 season.
Cowher quit the Pittsburgh Steelers this year after 15 seasons, citing family reasons, a year after he led the team to a win in the Super Bowl. He will join a team that includes James Brown, Dan Marino and Boomer Esaison.
"To have a coach that's been in the league as recently as Bill has, it gives us that great analysis," CBS Sports executive vp Tony Petiti said. "We haven't really had a coach in our lineup for some time. That perspective is really important to the fans of the game."
Cowher said he was looking forward to keeping his hand in the game while being able to be near his family, who live in Raleigh, N.C. Cowher has three daughters, the youngest a high school sophomore.
"This will give me the opportunity to still be a part of her life and at the same time be a part of something that's been a big part of my life, and that's the NFL," Cowher said Thursday.
"I can still be part of it but not have it consume your life," Cowher said, speaking on a conference call.
Cowher sent mixed signals as to how long he plans to stay away from coaching.
Initially, he said, "It's an opportunity to stay busy on Sundays and it may go beyond this year." Later in the call, he said, "I'm planning on doing this for a couple of years."
However, he would not officially commit to appearing beyond one season, saying, "It's an opportunity to remain a part of the NFL, and it may go a lot longer than that."
Cowher doesn't expect to have any problems critiquing or criticizing his former team, saying it would be no different from doing so along the sideline.
