An electronic rapping toy and a puppet are united by adversity and together they fight crime. Push the button on the paw of DJ Doggy Dog and he'll explain that he's "cute not scary," and that he's "got rhymes that are legendary." Push the questions about Don, the fool, still performing though his puppeteer is long since dead and that "cute not scary" and "legendary" start to feel quite a bit weirder. Discover that Don is given to flights of fancy and tilting at windmills and the advertising copy notion that this is based on what's described as "an original idea" by "writers of Toy Story" starts to look a bit suspect.
That's not, technically, untrue. Joel Cohen (not that one) is one of six with writing credits for 1995's Toy Story, though his most recent credits were 2007's Daddy Day Camp (the Daddy Day Care sequel) and another...

Pixar is working away on Toy Story 5 – although even Tim Allen wonders if five may be too many…
It was earlier in the year that Disney boss, Bob Iger, decided to offset some of the company’s problems by announcing a raft of sequels to the firm’s megahits. Those films? Frozen 3, Zootropolis 2 and – yep – Toy Story 5.
It was back in 2019 that the Toy Story saga appeared to have come to an end at Pixar, with the just-about-got-away-with-it Toy Story 4. Realistically, Toy Story 3 was the perfect ending to the trilogy, but the fourth film had enough in the tank, and certainly enough in the bank. Spin-off movie Lightyear fell to Earth in the summer of 2022.
When Iger announced Toy Story 5 though, there was some suspicion as to whether the lead voices – Tom Hanks and Tim Allen – would be persuaded to return to voice Woody and Buzz again.

The trailer for The Garfield Movie has now made its online debut. Sony Pictures Animation is bringing to life one of the most famous lazy felines in the world. The last time Garfield had graced the silver screen was in 2006’s Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties, the sequel to 2004’s Garfield, which featured Bill Murray as the titular voice that originated with Lorenzo Music, who poetically also voiced the Bill Murray role in The Real Ghostbusters. Famously, Murray had admitted to taking the role under the mistaken assumption that he was working with one of the Coen brothers (the movie was written by Joel Cohen – unrelated to the beloved duo).
This new incarnation brings us an origin story of sorts courtesy of the new trailer. We get a look at how Garfield had ended up with his owner, Jon Arbuckle. In the intro to the trailer, kitten Garfield works...

“Barbie” is a box office smash, along with its acclaim from critics and audiences alike. If you follow the social media chatter and the general feeling from most pundits, it could be a viable awards contender for Warner Bros. One category being debated is where the screenplay by Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach would be able to compete — whether in original or adapted screenplay. The answer lies in how the WGA classifies it and whether the Academy could or would overrule that choice.
Variety confirms there are ongoing conversations with strategists and Warner Bros regarding where “Barbie” would compete at next year’s ceremony.
On the title cards, it reads “Based on ‘Barbie’ by Mattel,” which is, of course, a toy company. At the same time, there have been multiple CGI films and TV series featuring the fashion doll since its debut in the late 1980s (42 to be precise). This...

Sean “Diddy” Combs claimed the alcohol giant Diageo regularly referred to his Ciroc vodka and DeLeon tequila as “urban brands,” and even developed a watermelon-flavored version of DeLeon over his objections, according to a new, unredacted version of Combs’ lawsuit against the liquor company.
When Combs filed the lawsuit back in May, he accused Diageo of “discriminatory treatment,” though a lot of the particulars were redacted. What was known, was that Combs believed Diageo had failed to invest resources into Ciroc and DeLeon, and only seemed interested in marketing them to “urban” consumers.

As we told you all week, the resurrected Rust returned to filmming today in Montana at the Yellowstone Film Ranch.

The production has touted the addition of new crew members including Safety Officers Gary Jensen and Paul Jordan (Tenet Production Safety), EP/LP Stephen Marinaccio (Jack Ryan), and Production Designer Christine Brandt (Card Counter).
Returning Rust filmmaker Joel Souza, who was injured in the shoulder from the discharged prop gun that Baldwin was holding back in October 2021, said in statement “Though bittersweet, I am grateful that a brilliant and dedicated new production team is joining former cast and crew to complete what Halyna and I started. My every effort on this film will be devoted to honoring Halyna’s legacy and making her proud.

Every now and then, an actor is vocal about disliking a film they once starred in.
While the question “Do you have any career biggest regrets?” may be one of the more obvious ones a journalist can ask an actor. the answer can sometimes be extremely revealing.
Many Hollywood stars have spoken negatively about their past choices, and have even poked fun at the role during an appearance in another one of their films.
Others – for example: Charlize Theron – have admitted accepting a film purely based on the director’s filmography, only to then be let down by the final results of their collaboration.
Below, The Independent looks at 27 actors who have been vocal about disliking films they have starred in.

Lerner died Saturday evening, his nephew and The Goldbergs actor Sam Lerner confirmed in a tribute post on Instagram.

“What are your biggest regrets?” This might be one of the more obvious questions a journalist can ask an actor, but the answer can often be hugely revealing.
Many actors have spoken negatively about their time spent as a superhero, playing a teenage heartthrob or starring in films they believed had been written by somebody else.
Others, including Charlize Theron, have said they took a job solely due to a director’s filmography – only to then be let down by the final results of their collaboration.
Most recently, Jennifer Lawrence revealed that she did not look so favourably upon 2016 science fiction film Passengers.

Fresh off of Blade Runner 2049, Dave Bautista will now lend his voice in multiple roles on the animated action-comedy Groove Tails, about an underground world where mice engage in competitive street dancing. Deadline reports that Bautista will join Jamie Foxx in the movie that will be directed by How to Train Your Dragon and Kung Fu Panda 2 animator Cameron Hood.
Johnny Mack developed the story and wrote the first draft of the script with rewrites coming from Joel Cohen and Alec Sokolow.
Right now, Bautista is shooting Marvel’s Avengers 4 and can next be seen in Infinity War. The former professional wrestler and bodybuilder has stayed busy as he currently is developing an action-comedy franchise that he will star in and produce.

One of the most frustrating things about spending 20 years covering film as a critic and a reporter is watching the slide of even the most basic standards into total ruin, and it is safe to say that at this point, the entire wall of white noise that is “film journalism” is essentially useless as anything other than farce. Maybe it’s because there are some stories you don’t want to believe and some stories you do. Maybe that’s why certain false things get reported as fact so readily. I still see people run the “fact” that Bill Murray only appeared in Garfield because he got confused by Joel Cohen’s name on the script, thinking he was going to work with the Coen Brothers. People really want to believe that’s true, but it’s ridiculous. Just take a step back and really consider what you’re saying.

The best thing about the two Garfield movies that we’ve seen to date? That’d arguably be Bill Murray’s anecdotes about how he got involved in voicing cartoonist Jim Davis’ most famous creation. Murray, goes the story, agreed to voice the cat in the CG/live action hybrid movies when he confused screenwriter Joel Cohen (Cheaper By The Dozen, Daddy Day Camp) with Oscar-winning writer/director Joel Coen (No Country For Old Men, Fargo).Whether you fully believe Murray’s anecdote or not, it was arguably more memorable than anything that happened in the two Garfield films.
Now there’s a new Garfield movie that’s gone into the works, and it’s probably fair to say that Murray won’t be involved this time. The rights have been...

What makes a brilliant script? Is it quotable lines? Is it nuanced dialogue? Or is it just the ability to move the story along and not get in the way? When looking back through the history of screenwriting, there are plenty of iconic films based on previous work; the Writer’s Guild of America voted Casablanca the greatest screenplay of all time, but it’s adapted. So, what is the most important piece of film writing ever written directly for the screen? This list will shift from American to international, conventional to unconventional. Most importantly, these are the scripts that demonstrate how “screenwriting from scratch” is done.

Is there anything Bill Murray hasn't done? And I'm not talking just movies.
A man of seemingly legendary stature, the actor broke out on "Saturday Night Live" in the late '70s and only grew more prominent with unforgettable roles in "Caddyshack" (1980) and "Ghostbusters" (1984). Since then, Murray has also established himself in dramatic roles, such as in the acclaimed Sofia Coppola movie "Lost in Translation," which garnered him a Best Actor nomination.
Whether or not you've seen Murray on the big screen or at the ballpark, there's still much to know about the star. From his duet with Clint Eastwood to his unbelievable encounters with fans, here are 21 things you probably don't know about Bill Murray.
1. Murray is a part-owner of three minor league baseball teams, including the Riverdogs in Charleston, South Carolina. and the Brockton Rox in Massachusetts, which explains this.

He may need some glasses! Bill Murray revealed during a surprise Ama Reddit this month that he accepted the voiceover lead in 2004's animated film Garfield under false pretenses. The usually private actor revealed in the very forthcoming Q&A that he only joined the project because he mistook the writer Joel Cohen with none other than the Coen brothers. "I had a hilarious experience with Garfield. I only read a few pages of it, and I kind of wanted to do a cartoon movie, because I had [...]...

The common story about Bill Murray's rather surprising involvement in "Garfield" is that when he got the script by co-written by Joel Cohen, he thought was reading something by Joel Coen, one half of the Coen brothers. How wrong he was. But Murray has always been a good sport about answering questions regarding his involvement as the voice of the orange, overweight cat, but we're not sure we've heard him tell it like this before. A few days ago, Murray jumped on Reddit to do an Ama in advance of "The Monuments Men" opening in a couple of weeks. And as you might expect, it's pretty awesome, but an easy highlight is his lengthy tale about "Garfield." We'll just let you read it yourself below, but be sure to get through to the end. The last line is killer: Someone asked "will there be a Garfield 3?" I don't think so.

Bill Murray is notoriously private, which is why it was a shock when he did a surprise Reddit Ama (Ask Me Anything) on Friday in support of his new movie, "Monuments Men."
The actor was extremely forthcoming in his responses to questions concerning both the personal and the professional aspects of his life, but one revelation in particular, about his somewhat head-scratching involvement in 2004's "Garfield," was particularly amusing. In a long response to a query about whether there would be a "Garfield 3," Murray explained that there probably wouldn't be -- and it was a fluke that he took on the first film to begin with.

The Reddit Ama has become the Internet’s version of Inside the Actors Studio, and everyone fancies themselves a regular James Lipton. There have been some fantastic celebrity interviews on the website, but Bill Murray’s could easily be the best. The actor was promoting his role in the upcoming The Monuments Men, about a ragtag platoon sent to rescue artworks from the Nazis during World War II, due in theaters on February 7. Perhaps the most amusing story Murray shares is about his involvement with the Garfield films. “I only read a few pages of it, and I kind of wanted to do a cartoon movie, because I had looked at the screenplay and it said 'Joel Cohen' on it. And I wasn't thinking clearly, but it was spelled Cohen, not Coen,” he told a...

New York, January 20: Bill Murray has revealed that he took the part of being the voice of Garfield by mistake.
The 63-year-old American actor and comedian said that he had mistakenly thought that it was penned by famed film scribe Joel Coen and not Joel Cohen, the New York Post reported.
During a Reddit chat with fans, Murray admitted that he didn't bother to read the hit comedy's full script because he thought it was written by Coen and not Cohen.

Bill Murray surprised fans on Reddit yesterday evening with an Ask Me Anything session to promote his new movie, The Monuments Men, which hits theaters February 7th. Joss Whedon is about to have a very good week. The writer/director/producer has, until recently, been best known for his work on television: he turned his poorly-received screenwriting debut "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" into one of the most beloved cult series of all times (which itself got a long-running spin-off, "Angel"), and followed it up with the short-lived but passionately followed sci-fi Western "Firefly," a show that lasted a single season, but managed to get its own cinematic sequel, "Serenity," which marked Whedon's big-screen directorial debut.
Until now, "Serenity" has been the director's best-known entry into the movies, but that's all about to change. He wrote and produced the inspired, raucous horror flick "The Cabin In The Woods," which hits theaters on Friday, and tonight sees the world premiere of "The Avengers," the Marvel superhero team-up movie that is one of the most keenly anticipated films of the year,...

Video games turned movies aren't exactly a new process. Now Facebook video games turned movies could be the next craze, with Mafia Wars reportedly getting a look months ago. FarmVille is the latest game garnering possible big screen attention, and even has two of the original four writers behind Toy Story interested in penning the script.
IGN recently spoke with Alec Sokolow and Joel Cohen, who mentioned a few upcoming projects they're working on including an un-named game from Zynga.

The names Joel Cohen and Alec Sokolow may not be immediately familiar, but you've no doubt seen some of their movies. The screenwriting duo has credits on Toy Story, Money Talks, Cheaper By the Dozen, Evan Almighty, Daddy Day Camp, and both Garfield flicks. Regardless of this resume, the pair keeps getting new gigs, and they've found a rather lucrative new niche: they're about to be the guy(s) adapting one of Facebook's most outrageously popular games... IGN has new information that indicates Cohen and Sokolow may be getting ready to pen a Farmville movie. Let that sink in. (Slashfilm reminds us that there is also an Angry Birds movie on the horizon as well.) For the three people who might not know, Farmville is a Facebook game that asks you to run a farm...

If you have still managed to escape the draw of social media games, then you won't be able to evade them much longer. Rumor has it that a Farmville movie adaptation is in the works, and could be coming to a movie theater near you pretty soon.
IGN interviewed "Toy Story" and "Garfield" scribes Alec Sokolow and Joel Cohen recently and the writing duo dropped some pretty big news. Though they didn't say it outright, they did tease that they're working on a big, farm-related film project for "Farmville" creators Zynga.
"We will continue writing movies," they shared. "We are also working on several new and very exciting opportunities. We're in conversations with Zynga to do something with one of their brands. Can't really say too much on that front yet, but 'Old MacDonald' didn't have a factory, if you get our drift."

For most of us with two eyes and access to Facebook, seeing Aaron Sorkin's "The Social Network" was on our to-do list long before the film hit theaters.
And we're not ashamed to say that minutes often turn into hours while we Facebook stalk ex-boyfriends, look at pictures of former classmates' new babies, and generally fritter away our time on the social networking site.

"Toy Story" writers Alec Sokolow and Joel Cohen have revealed that they may be in talks to pen a film based on "Farmville", the 2009 farming simulation social network game that's popular on Facebook.
The pair told IGN that despite working on writing games at the moment, they "will continue writing movies. We are also working on several new and very exciting opportunities. Back in June we heard the first of the Facebook games, Zynga's Mafia Wars, had been optioned for a jaunt on the big screen. Thankfully we haven't heard anything since, so at least for now we don't have anything to worry about, Mafia Wars wise. But unfortunately, it seems Zynga is pretty keen on expanding their brand movie wise, as they're apparently moving ahead on an adaption of another their game famous games, Farmville.

We’ve already seen Facebook being turned into a movie, so its only fair that its games be turned into one as well. Cinemablend (via IGN) is reporting that Toy Story writers, Alec Sokolow and Joel Cohen, may be working on a movie version of Farmvillie. During the interview they revealed that they have been working on several new project and have been in contact with Zynga, the creators of Maifa Wars and Farmville. They added that they cannot reveal too much, but said that “Old McDonald did not have a factory.”
At first you may think this is a joke, but who knows how this could really go. Maybe they will play off the same stories as Toy Story and tell what happens to the famers and farm animals when the user is not around. Farmville remains on of Facebook’s top played games, only behind Cityville and The Sims Social.

File this one squarely under “unnecessary.” During an interview with IGN, Toy Story scribes Alec Sokolow and Joel Cohen (not Coen) hinted that they’re currently in talks to write a Farmville movie. As they said:

For the lucky few who don’t know, Zynga is a social network games developer who make video games that are light on story and heavy on addictive repetition. Facebook games being turned into movies sadly isn't something new. Back in June of last year it was reported that Zynga's Mafia Wars was being looked at to be adapted, but fortunately we haven't heard anything else about it since. When many of us think of video games we think of the staples: games played on consoles or computers. It's only in the past few years that mobile phones and social networking platforms have created a whole new batch of casual gamers. Games like Words With Friends, Angry Birds and Farmville are now as popular, if not more so, than stuff like Halo or Mortal Kombat. And while those console games keep getting turned into movies, the newer, more social games have been on the outside looking in. That might be changing, though. An Angry Birds movie has been in development [1] for some time, and IGN recently spoke to Toy Story writers Alec Sokolow and Joel Cohen, who strongly hinted they could soon be writing a Farmville movie.
