Legendary scream queens Brinke Stevens (The Slumber Party Massacre), Michelle Bauer (Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers), Deborah Dutch (Hard to Die), and Courtney Lercara (Slaughterhouse) have joined the cast of writer/director Bobby Canipe Jr.’s upcoming horror project Grandma, a tribute to the shot-on-video horrors of the 1980s and ’90s! In Lercara’s case, this means she will be earning her first screen credit in thirty years, as she last appeared in the anthology Things back in 1993.
To ensure that Grandma will perfectly emulate the look and feel of the shot-on-video movies of the past, Canipe has brought on a dream team of executive producers and creative consultants that consists of multiple Sov filmmakers: Donald Farmer, Dustin Ferguson, Mark Polonia, Joel Wynkoop, Todd Sheets, Gary Cohen, Tim Ritter, Brad Sykes, and Eric Stanze. Scott Appleby will be providing the required original synth score.

The documentary “Kaepernick & America,” which examines the remarkable conflict stirred by former NFL star Colin Kaepernick’s sideline protest, will begin streaming on demand on Fri. Sept. 2.
Directed by Tommy Walker and Ross Hockrow, the documentary made its debut at Tribeca as one of the film festival’s online premieres.
In a statement, Walker explained he was personally captivated the Kaepernick saga and what insights they gleaned about America’s ongoing racial turmoil as they explored the intersection between his protest in the summer of 2016 and the widespread reactions they spurred.
“The film we have made seeks to discover the parallels between the life and activism of Colin Kapaernick and the tumultuous and divisive factors that have colored America’s racial divide,” Walker stated. “It is only partly about Kaepernick, as it actually reveals more about America, the land that reacted so profoundly to such a simple gesture.”

“Video Violence” (1987)
Directed By: Gary P. Cohen
Written By: Gary P. Cohen & Paul Kaye
Starring: Art Neill (Steven Emory), Jackie Neill (Rachel Emory), Gary Schwartz (1st Store Owner), Chick Kaplan (2nd Store Owner), Bart Sumner (Howard), Uke (Eli), Paige Price (1st Victim), Robin Leeds (Customer), Kevin Haver (Rick Carlson), Bill Biach (1st Yokel), Joseph Kordos (Reggie Hobbs), Chris Williams (Desk Sergeant), William Toddie (Chief of Police), Ricky Kotch (Young Boy), Jennifer Biach (Dog)
Some horror fans are immediately turned off by direct to video films. Moreover, some are turned off as soon as they hear a film was shot on video as well as low budget. I find this film perseveres above the pack compared to many like those described above which I have seen in the past. I naturally have a soft spot for low budget flicks but I will vilify the film...

Recently I received one of the coolest packages in the mail from the folks over at Camp Motion Pictures in the form of a Retro 80’s horror collection featuring five classic splatter films on DVD and also to my surprise one of the films also included on VHS all contained within a beautifully done over sized box which made me react like a little kid unwrapping a video game on Christmas morning as I quickly located my VHS player and took a magical journey back in time to my child hood. The era where all my weekends were spent digesting horror obtained from various mom and pop video stores.
