- There is a reason people skip ads: because they can. We'll patiently sit through a 15 second ad because we know at the other end we'll be rewarded with the show we want to watch. If the "reward" IS the ad, you've just lost your audience.
- It was important to me not to make it some big plot twist or its own story line. I wanted Derek's sexuality to be a subtle layer to the character and not make him 'the gay guy' which is why we waited on the reveal until mid-way through season two.
- I think movements like NoH8, It Gets Better and HRC certainly contribute to the public's awareness of the issues and allows them to their support, but I don't think Ruth Bader Ginsburg is swayed much by trending topics when weighing decisions.
- If you still think you can orchestrate a video to "go viral," there's a great deal on a gently-used island in Second Life you might be interested in.
- When someone from the 99 percent tries to play by the rules, what will they be willing to do? This character is about literal likes, and that can be a hard thing. You watch your views become little votes of approval.
- When I was a freshman at Boston University, I remember riding the T for 40 minutes just to see Gregg Araki's The Living End in an actual movie theater and thinking it was the hugest deal. Accessibility of short or independent films, gay or straight, were limited. The Internet has changed the equation entirely. I think audiences have developed certain expectations of what gay characters or 'gay' stories should look like. Kept Man is a thriller about a gay couple, played by one gay and one straight actor. It's a story that could work just as well with two women or one man and one woman without changing a word in the script.
- As an actor I always look for the similarities between myself and the characters I play. I don't define myself by my sexuality but I don't hide it either. I try to live my life as authentically as possible, and being gay is just one of many parts that make me who I am. That's just my reality.
- I am a notoriously insufferable Buffy fan. It's my favorite TV show of all time. I love everything Joss Whedon does and got to tell him that the first time I met him. Yuri and Vlad are the same way about Aaron Sorkin. We've found ourselves in a surreal position at this point in our careers where we get to create characters for and work with actors we've loved for years. Eliza and Emma played my two favorite Buffy characters and it's no a coincidence Josh Malina and Steven Weber have each starred in at least one Aaron Sorkin show.
