As he sits for a Zoom interview with Gold Derby, Bryan Rowland admits he’s a little bit shellshocked to be here, as his career trajectory has been something of a whirlwind. He got his start doing cinematography on documentaries. Then he met Ryan Reynolds, and it led to doing promotional material for the actor. Then he started editing episodes of the docuseries “Welcome to Wrexham” for Reynolds and partner Rob McElhenney orf “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” fame. Suddenly, they ask him to direct an episode on very short notice. Then for Season 2 of “Wrexham,” Reynolds and McElhenney asked Rowland if he could be its showrunner. And finally in July, he received Emmy nominations for both his directing and editing on “Wrexham.” “It’s just been absolutely amazing and terrifying,” Rowland admits, “and very surreal. It’s unbelievable that I’m actually sitting here talking with you today. I...

Ryan Reynolds Celebrates Rob McElhenney’s Birthday By Teaching Us All How to Pronounce His Last Name
Ryan Reynolds pulled out every possible stop he could think of to celebrate his buddy Rob McElhenney’s birthday Friday, April 14 — though the real gift was teaching us all how to properly pronounce the actor’s last name.
With the help of songwriters/composers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, Reynolds staged an elaborate musical number about all the wrong ways to say “McElhenney,” and the one right one (it’s “Mack-el-henny” — but, really, just listen to the song to make sure). The video features McElhenney’s wife and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia...

Barry Keoghan – the star whose terrific, twitchy perfomance as the sweet and lonely son of an abusive policeman in The Banshees of Inisherin captivated viewers and earned him an Oscar nod – is inspiring young people in his home city of Dublin.
The manager of a Dublin youth club where the Bafta-winning actor starred in one of his first dramatic roles has hailed the 30-year-old Irishman as a “fantastic role model” who is already an inspiration for the next generation.
Keoghan – who is also nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor alongside the veteran Irish actor Brendan Gleeson – was praised after dedicating his Bafta win to Ireland and “the kids that are dreaming to be something from the area I come from”.
The Dubliner’s mother struggled with drug addiction and died when he was a child, and he was placed in a dozen foster homes along with his brother...

Suki Waterhouse says she’s “annoyed” that women in music often have to choose between their careers and having a family.
The actor and musician is starring as keyboardist Karen Sirkoin in Daisy Jones & The Six, a new series that explores the rise and fall of a fictional band in the 1970s.
The mockumentary, based on the 2019 novel of the same name by Taylor Jenkins Reid, also stars Riley Keough (Elvis Presley’s granddaughter), Sam Claflin as Billy Dunne, Camila Morrone, Will Harrison, Nabiyah Be and Josh Whitehouse.
Waterhouse’s character is the only woman in the rock band before the character Daisy Jones, played by Keough, joins as the lead singer.
The actor was speaking about her research for the role when she claimed she was frustrated that women in music often have to choose between family and music.

Charlotte Church has reflected on Chris Moyles offering to take her virginity when she was 16 in comparison to the “more underground” misogyny of 2023.
Church rose to fame as a classical singer as a child, before going on to pursue a career in pop music in the mid Noughties.
In 2002, Moyles, who was then presenting BBC Radio 1’s drive-time show, offered to take the singer’s virginity, saying that he wanted to “lead her through the forest of sexuality now she had reached 16”.
Church, 37, makes an appearance on Kathy Burke: Growing Up, a new documentary for Channel 4 exploring the subject of ageing, in which Church opened up about the public reaction to her changing as she got older.
“It felt like it started to get dark when you were basically reaching puberty, that’s when they started to write about you differently,” Burke says, in a clip obtained by Metro.

The Masked Singer is back, with fans tuning in every Saturday night to try to guess which celebrity is behind each costume.
Comedian Joel Dommett has returned to host proceedings, with 13 mystery stars singing familiar songs on stage, while dressed up in an outfit obscuring their identity.
Guessing along with the in-studio audience and the viewers at home are the judges: Mo Gilligan, Davina McCall, Rita Ora and Jonathan Ross.
One way to help narrow things down is checking out who’s been on the series before – as it seems unlikely they’d return to the show (although not impossible).
So here’s a full list of who appeared on seasons one, two, three and four…
Season one
Winner: Nicola Roberts – Queen Bee
Jason Manford – Hedgehog
Katherine Jenkins – Octopus
CeeLo Green – Monster
Denise van Outen – Fox
Jake Shears – Unicorn
Skin – Duck
Kelis – Daisy
Teddy Sheringham – Tree
Justin Hawkins – Chameleon

In a decade’s worth of guns-blazing, dragon-slaying action films, Luke Evans has always been the quiet man. The Welsh actor delivered a calm, assured antagonist to the testosterone-loaded noise of the Fast & Furious franchise. While other gods and mortals fought monsters and each other in 2010’s pulpy box-office smash Clash of the Titans, he turned heads as the softly spoken Apollo. And in Peter Jackson’s epic trilogy The Hobbit, he was reluctant hero Bard the Bowman, muttering about dwarves bringing chaos to his formerly peaceful life.
More recently, though, Evans has been speaking up – or rather, singing. The 43-year-old launched his career in musicals such as Rent and Miss Saigon, but it’s arguably Beauty and the Beast – Disney’s live-action 2017 remake, in which he starred as a strutting, hubristic Gaston – that first brought his vocal talents to global attention. Netflix holiday movie Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey is filled with music, magic, and gorgeous visuals. One of the best aspects of the film - aside from its stacked cast - is the dazzling choreography. Between the heartwarming sequence of "This Day" and the high-energy rollicking throughout "Magic Man G," it's almost impossible to sit still while watching each symphonic scene.
So who's behind the dance spectacles? That would be choreographer Ashley Wallen. The Australian dance instructor, known for his work on 2017's The Greatest Showman, joined forces with Jingle Jangle director David E. Talbert to bring the routines to life. In a video shared by Netflix on Nov. 14, Wallen spoke about choreographing Jingle Jangle, an experience he described as "a dream come true." He detailed the process of shooting "Make It Work," which is one of the film's biggest dance scenes. "We had 60 dancers," he said. "There was a lot going on.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched Season 3, episode 14 of “The Masked Singer,” which aired April 29 on Fox.
Hunter Hayes is no longer “Wanted” on “The Masked Singer.” The country singer was the latest star to be unmasked on the hit Fox reality competition series, having been disguised as the Astronaut.
For his final performance, Hayes performed “Story of My Life” by One Direction on Wednesday night’s episode.
Hayes told Variety that he took the “Masked Singer” gig because, coincidentally, his next album — the second in his “Wild Blue” trilogy — will focus on themes of “the unknown and embracing the unknown.”
“It was a great chance for me to step out of my comfort zone and try new things in a safe place — even though it airs on national TV,” Hayes said. “I think being behind a mask gave me confidence and gave me the chance to really push myself.

There to introduce a performance by her aunt Caroline Cooper, Church stole the spotlight with her soaring soprano. Not only did the audience go wild as she hit the high notes, but Ross told the...

With just days remaining until Donald Trump‘s inauguration, the president-elect still has a scant entertainment lineup. Among those who have inexplicably agreed to perform are Jackie Evancho, the Rockettes, the Mormon Tabernacle Choice, and the Talladega College Marching Tornadoes. Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration will take place Jan. 20 in Washington, D.C., but so far, the president-elect has had some difficulty assembling a star-powered lineup for the ceremony. Over the last month or so, more and more musicians have publicly declined to perform — even those who Trump has praised or have a previous relationship with the president-elect.
In preparation for the inauguration, here’s a handy list of everyone who won’t perform for the president-elect.

Charlotte Church has become the latest high-profile entertainer to reject an invitation to perform at Donald Trump’s inauguration festivities. The Welsh singer-songwriter, who rose to fame as a classical singer when she was a girl, tweeted her decline of the invitation on Tuesday. She also took the U.S. president-elect’s staff to task for not researching her background in advance of approaching her: “A simple Internet search would show I think you’re a tyrant. Bye.” Also Read: Moby Says He'll DJ at Trump Inauguration - On One Condition Church concluded the message on her official account with...

Rhys Ifans is persuasive and Charlotte Church game in this raucous Dylan Thomas adaptation
Concluding the 100th anniversary celebrations of Dylan Thomas’s birth, here is a ramshackle visualisation of the poet’s 1954 radio drama. Thomas’s Under Milk Wood has spawned diverse adaptations and tributes – stage productions, a ballet, Stan Tracey’s revered jazz suite and a 1972 film by Andrew Sinclair, starring Elizabeth Taylor, Peter O’Toole and the original radio narrator, Richard Burton.
Probably few other versions are as raucous as this offering from Kevin Allen, who made his name with 1997’s laddish Cardiff romp Twin Town. That film’s star Rhys Ifans persuasively channels Burton’s night-deep tones in his voiceover, as well as playing the haunted seadog, Captain Cat. Also starring is Charlotte Church, more pert than earthy as local siren Polly Garter, but undeniably game for the revelry.

Without a unifying idea, or any considered appreciation of the text, this adaptation assumes the air of a strained community theatre project
Is it significant that, in Dylan Thomas’s centenary year, more effort has been made to dramatise the life – A Poet in New York on TV, Set Fire to the Stars in cinemas – rather than the work?
On the plus side, Kevin Allen’s new take on Thomas’s great radio fantasia of 1954 – available in simultaneously shot English- and Welsh-language versions, with Charlotte Church singing torch songs as Llareggub’s town sweetheart Polly Garter – proves more rooted in place and less literal-minded than its 1972 Burton-Taylor predecessor, which was a project born of a vanity denied the begrimed, dishevelled character actors gathered here.

The opera singer revealed during a segment on BBC’s Question Time that she believes that global warming is a “big factor” between Isis and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. While discussing British airstrikes on Isis targets in Syria, Church, 29, started to make her argument, telling the panel an “interesting thing with Syria actually…is there is evidence to suggest that climate change was a big factor in how [...]...

Dylan Thomas’ celebrated radio play has been energetically adapted to the big screen with Charlotte Church among the gallery of fun performances
The spirit of Richard Burton looms large over any rendering of Under Milk Wood: the actor’s sonorous vowels, on display in what has hitherto been considered the definitive cinematic version from 1972, somehow seem to perfectly embody Dylan Thomas’ effusive, garrulous poetry. It would be enough to put anyone off even having a go, but Rhys Ifans has stepped bravely up to the plate for this hyperactive, highly coloured adaptation directed by Kevin Allen.
Under Milk Wood, famously, originated as a radio play that Thomas wrote for the BBC, and was first broadcast in 1954 after the poet’s death. With its discursive verse style, it’s a resolutely uncinematic text, for all its evocative qualities: the addition of actual images, you would suppose, would be superfluous. Allen...

★★★☆☆Dylan Thomas' first jaunt to America is explored in Andy Goddard's understated but likable Set Fire to the Stars (2014). The centenary of Thomas' birth this year means we're also getting an adaptation of Under Milk Wood to come - directed by Kevin Allen and reportedly starring Rhys Ifans and Charlotte Church - but this melancholic picture, filmed in South Wales, should make a fine addition to contemporary reflections on the famously roguish poet. Former Hobbit Elijah Wood plays John M. Brinnin, a buttoned-up creative writing tutor at an austere East Coast university who nevertheless invites the rambunctious Welshman to the States for a 40-night tour in 1950.

Charlotte Church has joined the cast of an upcoming Dylan Thomas film.
Rhys Ifans leads the cast of Welsh stars in a movie version of Thomas's Under Milk Wood.
Former Labour leader Neil Kinnock and rugby star Gareth Thomas have also joined the cast in guest roles.
Ifans will play the narrator in the film, previously played by Richard Burton in the original radio play and the 1972 version.
Church is to appear as Polly Garter, who is pining for her deceased lover.
The project is being filmed over six weeks in Solva, Pembrokeshire, with villagers to appear as extras.
Director Kevin Allen told BBC News: "We want to veer away from delivering a dull, literal reflection of Thomas's original work, intending instead to explore some of the more erotic, visceral elements of the richly funny, filthily fluid, magical dreamscape - whilst not stooping to mess with Thomas's original text.

Footballer Joey Barton is a surprise booking for the panel on next week's edition of Question Time (May 29).
The outspoken and controversial Qpr midfielder will get the chance to discuss the hot topics of the week in BBC One's flagship politics show.
Barton will be joined on the panel by former Daily Mirror editor Piers Morgan, who he has had spats with on Twitter in the past.
David Dimbleby hosts the show, which will be taking place at Heathrow Airport.
The show is travelling to the newly-rebuilt Terminal 2: The Queen's Terminal, which opens to the public on June 4.
Question Time has a history of booking figures outside the political sphere with popstars such as Jarvis Cocker, Charlotte Church and Will Young appearing on the show in the past.
Barton isn't the first footballer to appear on the show either. That title is held by former Burnley defender Clarke Carlisle.
