- One daughter, Chrystall, who was born in 1947 and died in 1999.
- During the 1940's, was briefly a model and the face of Lux soap.
- Acted on stage and in BBC radio plays and was a leading lady of British films in 1930's. Her most highly regarded performance was in the Michael Powell-directed drama The Edge of the World (1937).
- Her stage debut was in "Crime" in 1928.
- Educated at Preston School for Girls and Westbourne High School. Trained for acting at RADA in 1927, where one of her fellow students was Charles Laughton.
- Destroyed her birth certificate in order to claim to be younger than her actual age.
