It’s been nearly seven years since Eric Stanze’s indie shocker Ratline was released, but his follow-up directorial effort, In Memory Of, recently made its debut on Blu-ray and is currently available for purchase Here. Starring newcomer Jackie Kelly (who also helped co-write the script with Jason Christ), In Memory Of is a hallucinatory trip straight into Hell, when a young woman named Amber sets out to find the truth behind a horrific experiment that left her suffering and unable to remember anything from her childhood. Confused and in search of a mysterious stranger (played by Christ) who can answer all of her questions, Amber travels cross-country looking to put the pieces of her shattered life back together.
Daily Dead recently had the opportunity to check in with Stanze and talk about the release of his latest feature, and he discussed working on the script with both Christ and Kelly,...

With In Memory Of, director Eric Stanze and his crew at Wicked Pixel Cinema have delivered another nightmarish piece of low-budget psychological weirdness that is highly recommended. Jackie Kelly stars as Amber, a twenty-ish woman recently diagnosed as the youngest victim of an unusual neurological ailment, one which causes hallucinations and other mental issues. It’s a disease that may have killed her mother and in flashbacks it’s revealed that she was raised by her Aunt and was in an abusive relationship with her boyfriend Darren (Adam Ahlbrandt), who cheated on her with a woman named Jennifer (Haley Madison) and forced her into prostitution. But Amber is an unreliable narrator, which becomes more apparent as the story unfolds and her past is revisited. She travels to a grungy bunker to take part in a group study for a potential treatment for her disease. After she wakes up and finds...

Without a doubt, independent filmmaker Eric Stanze is one of the more seasoned and exciting storytellers working today. Ever since opening the doors on his production company Wicked Pixel Cinema in 1995, he's produced 20 different projects, and out of those he's directed 9 as well as lending a hand in other capacities for the rest.
Stanze also recently served as the Second Unit Director on Jim Mickle's Stake Land (which is how we found out about this indie superstar), and his latest directorial effort - Ratline (review here) - recently made its way to DVD this past September and since its release has landed on many Top 10 lists of 2011 as well as nabbing a few awards during the 2011 PollyGrind Film Festival.

Drug dealers, serial killers, Satan worshippers and immortal Nazis are some of the ingredients of the bloody stew that is Ratline, a tough, well-made shocker from St. Louis-based regional filmmaker Eric Stanze. Ratline is not a “boo!” sort of horror flick. It’s not about stalkers in dark corners or monsters under the bed. It’s about the evil that men often do, if not necessarily in real life, then certainly within really nasty horror flicks like Ratline. It;s an angry, humorless film filled with sex and gore, but writer/director Stanze is not one of these independent filmmakers who;s simply in love with his own nihilism. He’s working from his own smart script that attempts to say something important about the murderous energies at loose in society. Ratline is not without flaws, but it’s an aggressively low budget piece of horror weirdness that defies expectations and is remarkably accomplished.

- With the edgy look of Tobe Hooper, the imaginative writing style of Clive Barker, and the in-your-face intensity of the young George A. Romero, emerging director Jason Christ seems poised to make his mark in the horror genre as well as the industry as a whole. His feature length directorial debut for Wicked Pixel Cinema, Savage Harvest 2: October Blood teases with a deeply intelligent plot, plenty of gore, and a nightmarish twist on the Hollywood formula. Savage Harvest 2: October Blood rips through the screen to grab the beating heart of the audience and rip it out. The well-written storyline follows Tyge Murdock (Benjamin Gaa), who had garnered success as a low-budget horror film director as he returns home following the death of an actor on the set of his most recent production. In typical genre fashion however, the nightmares simply follow him to his hometown. The town
