Who knew the family film of the year could be so controversial?
In what appears to be a major copy-editing snafu, Universal Pictures and toy company Mattel made an unfortunate error with their line of “Wicked” toys. The packaging lists a URL that’s presumably meant to link to the film’s website, wickedmovie.com. However, it instead lists wicked.com — which belongs to long-established porn company Wicked Pictures, former home to Stormy Daniels and Jenna Jameson.
Already, shoppers are posting their frustration on Reddit, TikTok, and other social media sites. IndieWire reached out to Universal and Mattel for comment but received no response at present time. We will update this article if they reply.

Mattel and Universal Pictures mistakenly put an adult film website on their dolls packaging. This is causing quite the stir online. Imagine a kid seeing the site on the package and going to it?...

When Wicked director Jon M. Chu called up Michelle Yeoh — after the two previously collaborated on 2018’s Crazy Rich Asians — for a major role in the musical adaptation, the star admits she had a few questions.
At the film‘s Los Angeles premiere on Saturday, Yeoh remembered how Chu had asked her to read the script with an eye to play Madame Morrible, “and I at that point had no clue what he was talking about because I had not seen Wicked the musical before. I knew Wizard of Oz, who doesn’t, but not Wicked, because I hadn’t been going to the theaters and not doing what I love which is watching musicals, for quite a while I hate to say.”

Jon M. Chu’s much-anticipated and star-studded musical epic Wicked saw its Los Angeles premiere Saturday, held at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.
In attendance were Part 1‘s main cast — in hues of iridescent pink and lush green — including powerhouse duo Ariana Grande (who portrays Glinda the Good Witch) and Cynthia Erivo (playing Elphaba), as well as Jonathan Bailey, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum and Ethan Slater. Bowen Yang was not pictured in attendance, likely due to his commitments as a featured player on Saturday Night Live. However, one of the most notable absences was that of helmer Chu, who had a bit of a scheduling conflict as he awaited the birth of his fifth child.
Also gracing the red carpet were original Broadway cast members Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel, who originated Glinda and Elphaba’s roles onstage.

For several years, fans of the musical fantasy genre have been eagerly waiting for the Wicked universe to take center stage on the big screens. So, fans were overjoyed when Jon M. Chu brought forth the movie based on the 2003 Broadway hit. The pandemic caused a slight delay in the plans, but Wicked, the movie, is prepared to tell the tale of Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the East.
Further, it would also showcase her school days when she befriended Glinda. Initially, both Elphaba and Glinda are roommates at Shiz University, and from the get-go itself, they can’t stand each other. After a while, they eventually become unusual friends, but their relationship struggles big time when the Wizard and his followers turn people against Elphaba.

Keep reading to find out more…
In a screenshot from a magazine piece, Stephen, who wrote the music for the Broadway musical and the movie, is shown in a full Ozian costume. So what is his role?
Stephen will be playing a palace guard who Glinda and Elphaba encounter before getting to see the Wizard.
There is a line in the musical, “The Wizard will see you now!” from the song “One Short Day,” and it appears as though Stephen may be the one to say that in the movie!
According to the magazine’s caption on his photo, there are also “many cameos” in the upcoming movie.

The pop star is making a very personal statement with her planned movie debut in “Wicked” by using her full name, Ariana Grande-Butera, in the credits. It’s not just a simple choice to change her name; it’s also a link to her childhood dreams.
Grande will play Glinda the Good Witch in the two-part movie version of the popular Broadway show, which Jon M. Chu will direct. The movie looks at how the famous “Wizard of Oz” characters got their start, with a focus on Glinda and Elphaba’s complicated friendship.
“I feel like I came home to myself in many ways,” Grande told The Streaming Service. She said her 10-year-old self saw “Wicked” under Grande-Butera. Her choice of credit card is a respect to that important time in her life.
Grande had to deal with doubts about her hiring at first. “It has to be earned,” she said in a radio interview,...

Ariana Grande is speaking out in response to backlash over her casting as Glinda in the Wicked movies.
The 31-year-old actress is a lifelong fan of the musical after seeing Wicked on Broadway with the original cast, which began her friendship with Kristin Chenoweth when she got the chance to go backstage as a child.
After Ariana was cast as Glinda, there was some backlash from fans of the musical who couldn’t imagine her in the role. And she says she understands!

“I felt a little bit of the initial nervousness or the sort of preconceived notions about what I might be able to deliver or not deliver, or why I would be wrong [for the role] or whatever,” she said on the Sentimental Man podcast.

Ariana Grande faced a decades-long road in pursuit of achieving her dream role in the film adaptation of the Broadway play, Wicked. She always felt a kinship to the story of two very different people who became close friends and created change. Grande’s determination allowed her the chance to play a key role in a story so dear to her heart.
Ariana Grande pursued ‘Wicked’ producers for a decade
Ariana Grande began pursuing a role in the film production of Wicked in 2013. She auditioned time and again for the role, never giving up on her childhood dream.
In an interview with Billboard, Grande revealed that she had to earn her place at Wicked‘s table. With a history of selling millions of records and high-grossing concert tours in her rearview mirror, it appeared unlikely she would have to work hard to get the role, but that is quite the opposite of what occurred.

Pop sensation Ariana Grande went on the Sentimental Men podcast this week where she talked all things “Wicked.” She even addressed the concerns of some fans about her being cast as Glinda the Good Witch in the big budget adaptation of the popular Broadway musical. For the record, not everybody feels this way, as she has a growing filmography that includes many other notable and respectable projects.
When she was originally cast in the role, she admittedly “felt a little bit of the initial nervousness” and the “preconceived notions about what I might be able to deliver or not deliver, or why I would be wrong,” Grande said on the podcast at the 33-minute mark. “It’s been a great secret. [The haters] didn’t get to see any of the auditions or know anything.” For the record, she will be going by her full name, Ariana Grande-Butera, in the “Wicked” credits...

The big-screen adaptation of “Wicked,” starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande as the famed young witches Elphaba and Glinda, is filled with all sorts of easter eggs and nods to the hit Broadway musical as well as “The Wizard of Oz.” But one detail of the film caught the eye of Grande’s fanbase in particular.
The Universal movie, directed by Jon M. Chu, began screening for press, critics and influencers last month, and as audience members shared their rave reviews and first reactions on social media, fans quickly noticed that Grande is billed “Ariana Grande-Butera” in the film’s end credits.
It doesn’t take more than cursory Google search to educate the uninitiated, but Grande-Butera is the Grammy-winning superstar’s birth name. Still, it’s a conspicuous addition since Grande has never used her full name professionally.

Everyone will begin returning to the movies just before Thanksgiving on Nov. 22 as Universal’s Wicked and Paramount’s Gladiator II just hit tracking with respective openings of $80M+ and $65M. Both have potential for upside. Wicked is very hot with women, and Gladiator II, is best with men, but also older women.
At $80M+, that’s easily the best domestic box office opening ever for filmmaker Jon M. Chu, ahead of G.I. Joe Retaliation ($41M), and yes, the best ever for Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.
At $65M+ for Gladiator II, that’s a record opening for Denzel Washington and for director Ridley Scott. Washington’s previous big bow was Scott’s American Gangster ($44M) while Scott’s previous big debut was 2001’s Hannibal with $58M.
Other box office thresholds to be broken: At $80M+, that’s a record start for a movie based on a Broadway show,...

“Counting down the days until the world sees Cynthia and Ariana in Jon M. Chu’s film… you will all be changed for the good when you see it,” Chenoweth posted.

Universal’s “Wicked” has finally been unveiled to members of the film press, who are praising Jon M. Chu’s adaptation of the hit Broadway musical. The film’s leads, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, are also earning raves across the board as the musical launches them into Oscar season as acting contenders.
Variety’s Katcy Stephen hailed the “Wicked” movie as a “masterpiece,” adding: “Ariana Grande makes Glinda sparkle: she milks every moment with gusto, humor and hair flips. Jon M. Chu added so much new life to the story that I can see why it needed to be 2 parts! Well worth the 20-year wait.”

Two exes dating siblings and spending the holidays together... what could go wrong? Well, according to the newly released Our Little Secret trailer, everything that could go wrong will go wrong.
Lindsay Lohan headlines the Netflix original Christmas romantic comedy as Avery, who spends the holidays with her boyfriend Cameron (Jon Rudnitsky). However, once she begins to meet his family, she discovers that her boyfriend's sister is dating her ex-boyfriend, Logan (Ian Harding). In order to avoid causing drama, Avery and Logan decide to keep their past a secret.
As the trailer reveals, 10 years prior to dating siblings, Logan had gotten down on one knee and proposed to Avery. Unfortunately for him, she turned down his proposal in front of a whole crowd. More than likely, that's where their relationship turned sour and caused them to be "resentful exes," as the movie's synopsis teases. An awkward proposal will definitely do that!

In the trailer for “Our Little Secret,” Lohan’s Avery prepares to spend the holidays with her boyfriend’s family for the first time, and her boyfriend’s mother (Kristin Chenoweth) is proving to be bit of an obstacle from the minute she arrives, commenting her screw-top wine bottle is “fast and easy” while glaring at Avery.

You might have to wait a while to get an appointment with Lindsey Ferrentino — her diary is looking pretty packed.
The playwright and screenwriter has become one of Hollywood’s most in-demand creatives and is, at this very moment, writing a staggering five films for Netflix, including an adaptation of a book by celebrated fantasy author Rebecca Yarros.

Wicked: The Soundtrack is scheduled to arrive in tandem with the release of the Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo-led film on Nov. 22. But being that the film itself has split the famed musical into two parts, with the second scheduled to arrive earlier than expected in November 2025, the accompanying soundtrack follows suit. In J.M. Barrie's original 1904 play "Peter and Wendy," the fairy Tinker Bell was typically represented by a powerful spotlamp, reflected onto the stage by a small hand mirror. Her dialogue was a series of small jingle bells, shaken offstage. When Barrie adapted his play into a 1911 novel, Tinker Bell remained mute, although she was able to participate in the action more closely. In the first film adaptation of Barrie's work, Herbert Brenson's 1924 film "Peter Pan," Tinker Bell was a light dangled by a string in long shots but actor Virginia Browne Faire in close-ups, either filmed against outside sets or composited into the frame.
In 1953, directors Hamilton Luske, Clyde Geronimi, and Wilfred Jackson brought Pan to life in the celebrated animated film "Peter Pan," released by the Walt Disney Company. In that film, Tinker Bell was also mute, but could be animated as a miniature person in most of her scenes,...

Could you imagine an Oscars ceremony without the glitz, glamour and a heavy dose of pop stardom? Can you imagine the ratings?
Well, the Oscars could get much more musical. This awards season, brace yourself for a “pop star era,” with music icons such as Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez and Ariana Grande all competing to receive acting attention from the Academy Awards, and in the same supporting actress race no less.
Pop stars have long dominated the stage, captivating millions with their music. However, some megastars have proven they can conquer more than the Billboard charts. Take legendary artist Cher, for instance — the “Goddess of Pop” didn’t just give us hits like “Believe,” she also took home an Oscar for best actress for her unforgettable role as Italian widow and bookkeeper Loretta Castorini in the 1987 rom-com classic “Moonstruck.” That crossover has also come from other genre artists.

Although their comedic chemistry is undeniable, Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele‘s careers have gone in different directions.
Nearly a decade after their Comedy Central sketch comedy show Key & Peele ended, Key admitted that he and his former onscreen partner “don’t see each other that often anymore” amid their busy lives on opposite coasts.
“Which is, to me, a tragedy,” he told People, noting that “your lives start to evolve and move in different directions.”
After the duo first appeared together on Fox’s Mad TV in 2004, they landed their own self-titled show on Comedy Central, which ran for five seasons from 2012 to 2015. The series earned them an Emmy Award for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series in 2016.
Key and Peele also appeared together in 2016’s Keanu, which was co-written by Peele. Additionally, they’ve voiced characters together in Storks (2016), Toy Story 4 (2019) and Wendell & Wild (2022).
