- Vaudeville monologist and dancer, in films from 1925. Often played second leads under contract to RKO and 20th Century Fox, by the 1940's reduced to starring in B-movies for Poverty Row studios like PRC. Made a comeback in television from the mid-1950's, notably in support of star in the adventure series "Soldiers of Fortune".
- Supporting actor, usually in light roles, for four decades in Hollywood.

- Was the son of a military surgeon and groomed for an army career, but dropped out of military school and went to Hollywood instead.
- Chandler had been an avid amateur auto racer, until his wife filed for a restraining order to make him stop as he had promised to do upon their marriage.
