The author’s first collaboration with Prime Video, “Harlan Coben’s Shelter” premiered over the summer, and the thriller series has already been cancelled by Amazon this week.
Prime Video also axed “The Horror of Dolores Roach” after one season.
Based on the first novel in the bestselling author Coben’s Mickey Bolitar trilogy, “Harlan Coben’s Shelter” follows the story of Mickey Bolitar after the sudden death of his father leads him to start a new life in Kasselton, New Jersey. Mickey quickly finds himself tangled in the mysterious disappearance of a new student at his school, Ashley Kent, which leads to uncovering unimaginable secrets within their quiet suburban community.
“With the help of his friends—the inventive Spoon and the secretive Ema—Mickey pulls back the sleepy façade of Kasselton to reveal a dark underground that may hold the answers to decades of disappearances, deaths, and legends … and his own complex family history.

Amazon has axed a trio of scripted series from its Prime Video service: The Horror of Dolores Roach, Harlan Coben’s Shelter, and With Love are all ending.
The Horror of Dolores Roach and Harlan Coben’s Shelter ran for one season, while With Love is ending after two seasons.
They are the latest cancelations at the streamer over the last few months following shows such as The Peripheral and A League of Their Own, which had both been renewed before those decisions were reversed.

While it’s clear that broadcasters and streamers are canceling a slew of shows coming out of the writers and actors strikes, a drastic reduction of original scripted series has been on the cards for some time as Hollywood continues to cut costs.

OWN has set the premiere date for the seventh and final season of Queen Sugar. The series created and executive produced by Ava DuVernay will return on Tuesday, September 6 at 8 p.m. Et/Pt.
DuVernay will return to direct the series finale, wrapping up seven seasons of the all-women directorial team that she envisioned when directing the pilot. As previously reported, directors attached to Season 7 include Kat Candler, Stacey Muhammad, showrunner Shaz Bennett, Patricia Cardoso, Aurora Guerrero, and DeMane Davis.
For seven seasons and 88 episodes, the contemporary drama has been directed by women filmmakers, an initiative set forth by DuVernay at the outset of production in 2016. With nearly three dozen filmmakers making their directorial debut on Queen Sugar, the series marked a shift in industry hiring standards for women and people of color behind the camera.

"I don't know of a fat Latina who has not seen ['Real Women Have Curves'] and who it hasn't impacted . . . We all talk about it," Jessica Torres tells Popsugar. She's an Instagram influencer and one of the leading voices showing Latinas they can love themselves, no matter their size. Torres does a lot of her work on social media, curating a feed with an inclusive definition of beauty and helping others do the same.
But 20 years ago, when "Real Women Have Curves" came out, that wasn't an option. All we had was mainstream media and Hollywood, which was obsessed with thin, white young people. Jenny Viveros, a licensed clinical social worker (Lcsw) and founder of Latin Burlesque, remembers saving up to buy issues of Latina magazine. "I wanted to look like them," she says of the glossy women featured who were all "very thin, very model, you know, very light skinned, straight hair."

In June 2019, the gender-parity industry coalition ReFrame unveiled Rise, its two-year program to support the continuation of mid-level female directors’ careers. After a slight pandemic-affected delay, ReFrame Rise has now returned with its second cohort, which expands to include cinematographers.
Each woman will be matched with a career coach and a team of industry professionals to sponsor them (a relationship that involves a more committed level of participation than mentorship).
“We have learned firsthand the value of the sponsorship opportunity for women artists and look forward to supporting this next group as they level up and find sustainability in their careers,” Sundance Institute founding senior director of Artist Programs and ReFrame Leadership Council member Michelle Satter said in a statement. The nominees list for the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences Board of Governors has been revealed before its June 6-10 balloting.
The candidates are hoping to fill the open seats on the 54-member board. Up to four candidates are set for the open seat at each each branch, which carries three governors with staggered terms per branch.
Board members who have termed out include Academy president David Rubin (from the casting directors branch), Jan Pascale (production designers), Mark Johnson (producers) and Nancy Utley (PR).
Candidates vying for a seat include actress Marlee Matlin, composer Hans Zimmer, and executive Toby Emmerich.
The slate faces some crucial tests once installed, including selecting a new Academy president and new CEO to replace outgoing Dawn Hudson. The Academy also must overcome perceptions created in a rocky year, with its Will Smith Oscars slap incident and the uproar over what categories would make it into the Oscars broadcast.
