Despite the decline in theatrical horror releases during the 1990s, the direct-to-video side of the genre was still thriving. So much so that something like Jeff Burr’s Night of the Scarecrow understandably slipped through the cracks after its unnoticed home-video premiere in ‘96. Even aficionados of this regularly dismissed decade of horror might not be aware of the movie’s existence. Nevertheless, longtime fans still consider this to be one of the more notable offerings of scarecrow horror.
It’s not hard to figure out why Night of the Scarecrow got so lost in the shuffle of ‘90s Dtv horror. Jeff Burr claimed only around 12,000 units were shipped back in the bygone days of video shops. Yet, if you came across this movie’s alluring box art in the horror aisle, you couldn’t be blamed for wanting to take a closer look. The alternative artwork — the titular, sickle-wielding villain...

With the teaser trailer for the Full Moon feature Reel Evil having hit the web today, we caught up with one of the flick’s actresses, Jamie Bernadette, to discuss the Danny Draven-directed, Charles Band-produced found-footage film.
Written by Shane Bitterling, Reel Evil follows (according to the film’s synopsis) “struggling filmmakers Kennedy, Cory and James, who finally catch the break they are looking for when they are hired to shoot a behind-the-scenes documentary for a major studio production. But their dream job quickly turns into a nightmare when they explore the legendary haunted location and find something far worse than anything Hollywood could create. Terror becomes reality for the filmmakers as they uncover the malevolent secrets of the hospital and the sinister doctor who once ran it.” Rounding out the cast are Jessica Morris, Jim Tavaré, Kyle Morris, Christian Edsall, Sandra Hinojosa, Michael Cline, Jeffrey Adler and Lino Dumont.

Next Tuesday Shout! Factory unleashes yet another winning package that we never thought we'd see. That's right, kids. The Slumber Party Massacre collection is heading our way, and we have a look at it for you!
From the Press Release:
Stay up all night with the films that put a new twist on the slasher genre. Along with Halloween (1978), Friday the 13th (1980) and Prom Night (1980), Slumber Party Massacre (1982) helped define the slasher film ethos of the 1980s. Put together by first-time director Amy Holden from a script, titled “Don’t Open the Door," by feminist author Rita Mae Brown (Rubyfruit Jungle), the film was an immediate hit for Roger Corman's New World Pictures, eventually spawning two sequels.
Here, for the first time, all three Slumber Party Massacres are brought together in one DVD set, due to drill its way into your heart on October 5, 2010 from Shout! Factory, in association with New Horizons Picture Corporation.

At long last, the bygone era of the 1980s creature feature has made its long-delayed and splashy return to the big screen with John Gulager’s Feast, a rock-’em-sock-’em gross-out bloodbath that echoes the days of Evil Dead II, Return Of The Living Dead and maybe a smidgen of Gargoyles. But here’s the heartbreaker: It’s apparent this film is the malicious, placenta-devouring offspring of three individuals (Gulager and writers Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton) who have created something—thanks to Project Greenlight—expressing their fervid obsession with the genre. However, it just falls short of delivering the double-barrel blast of cult flavor that would make this one an eternal midnight fix. Gulager came close,...
