- (October 26, 2017 - December 23, 2017) Wrote the solo play "Harry Clarke" starring Billy Crudup at the Vineyard Theatre, New York City
- (March 7, 2018 - May 13, 2018) His solo play "Harry Clarke", starring Billy Crudup, transferred from it's sold out, three times extended, run at the Vineyard Theatre to the Minetta Lane Theatre, New York City, for a commercial 10 week limited engagement as the inaugural theatre production of Audible, who also recorded Crudup's performance of Cale's show for an audio book released on January 23, 2018.
- (October 3, 5,6 & 7, 1995) He acted in his play, "Lillian," in the Fall Festival production at the American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Robert Brustein was artistic director.
- (2018 to 2019 season) He performed in his play, "We're Only Alive For A Short Amount of Time," at the Goodman Theatre in association with the Public Theater in Chicago, Illinois.
