Exclusive: Hulu’s Wu-Tang: An American Saga has added Andrea-Rachel Parker to the cast of the 10-episode drama from Wu-Tang Clan frontman The RZA, writer Alex Tse (Superfly) and Imagine Television. Parker will portray the role of witty, sarcastic and fun-loving Mama Ganga.
The series is based on one of the most influential groups in hip-hop and will explore and expand the band’s world. Parker is best known for her role as Bernice on the critically acclaimed HBO series The Deuce and as Destiny on the Starz’s series Power.

"A Lynchian head trip." Whoa. Blue Fox Entertainment has unleashed an official red band trailer for a new "psycho-thriller" film titled Braid, which originally premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year. From filmmaker Mitzi Peirone, making her feature debut, the story is about two wanted women who decide to rob their wealthy psychotic friend who lives in the fantasy world they created as children. Say what? Yeah, this look trippy and wild and violent and dangerous. In order to get away with the money, the woman have to take part in a deadly perverse game of make believe. Peirone's Braid stars Madeline Brewer, Imogen Waterhouse, Sarah Hay, Scott Cohen, Brad Calcaterra, and Mary Looram. This certainly seems as crazy as it sounds, and the footage is quite wacky. Hard to make any sense of it, but I think that's the point. Here's the official red band trailer (+ poster) for Mitzi Peirone's Braid,...

When Rebecca Root auditioned for “The Sisters Brothers,” all she knew from the casting breakdown was it called for a “strong woman” with “some facial hair on her upper lip.” For her self-tape, Root’s partner drew in the hint of a mustache with eyebrow pencil, and she “made sure that [her] voice was strong.” After one callback, Root impressed French filmmaker Jacques Audiard (“A Prophet”) and booked the role.
For his part in “Colette,” Jake Graf was contacted via Facebook by director Wash Westmoreland, who said he was made aware of Graf’s work through friends. “Colette” and “The Sisters Brothers” opened the same week, leading the specialty box office. What makes Graf and Root special is that while both are trans, the characters they play in these two films are not.

A transgender customer at an Urban Outfitters was turned away from using the women's changing room at a Los Angeles store. Nicholas Gorham, who identifies as a gender-fluid trans person, was shopping with a female friend when they went to try on women's clothing in the women's changing room. The attendant immediately led Gorham's friend to a room, but started to take Gorham to a separate area. "She could feel the awkwardness and offered: 'Well the thing is there are young girls over there so I can't really...' " Gorham, a New York-based actor and performance artist, recalls in a post for Mic.
