Zahn McClarnon loves that you love Dark Winds, the 1970s-set crime/mystery drama that returns with Season 2 this Thursday (on AMC+) and Sunday at 9/8c (on AMC proper).
The warm reception that Dark Winds Season 1 received last summer from viewers and critics alike “was not necessarily a surprise to me, but I was very happy that people enjoyed watching the show,” McClarnon told TVLine during a late-June Zoom. “I mean, it’s difficult to put together a television show. Extremely difficult. And when you get a reception like that, it makes all the hard work worthwhile.”

Dark Winds is getting a showrunner change for season two.
The breakout AMC series will see John Wirth take over showrunning duties for the sophomore run, replacing Vince Calandra, who served as showrunner and exec producer on season one.
Wirth is no stranger to the network, having served as showrunner on Hell on Wheels for four seasons and exec produced Hap and Leonard.
It comes after the network renewed the Native-led Western noir crime thriller, which stars Zahn McClarnon, for a second six-episode run in June.
The series, which is produced by AMC Studios, performed well for the network, drawing 2.2M viewers for its June 12 launch in live+3 ratings and becoming its number one new series launch for its streaming service AMC+.

Western noir series “Dark Winds” ushers in the future of AMC post-“Walking Dead,” premiering June 12 on AMC and AMC+.
Set in the 1970s, “Dark Winds” centers on two detectives, Leephorn (Zahn McClarnon) and Chee (Kiowa Gordon), who are tasked with finding a murderer behind multiple homicides. Yet nothing is as it seems as the case takes a turn towards the spiritual.
Creator Graham Roland adapted the six-episode limited series based on the detective novels by Tony Hillerman. Star McClarnon is also executive producing, along with George R. R. Martin and Robert Redford. Martin expanded beyond his “Game of Thrones” universe with “Dark Winds.” Meanwhile, Redford has previously produced two other screen adaptations of the Leaphorn and Chee novels.
Showrunner and executive producer Vince Calandra of “Jack Ryan” and “Sharp Objects” fame helms “Dark Winds,” which also stars Jessica Matten, Rainn Wilson, Noah Emmerich, Deanna Allison, Elva Guerra, and Eugene Brave Rock.

It’s official. Castle Rock will not be returning for a third season. Hulu has canceled the psychological horror series starring Lizzy Caplan after two seasons, Deadline has confirmed.
Season 2 of the anthology series premiered more than a year ago. There were no expectations for a third installment, and the decision to end the series after two seasons was made awhile ago. Once one of the first suppliers of Hulu after it branched out into premium original content, Warner Bros TV has focused its attention to supplying recently launched sibling HBO Max. There are no plans for Castle Rock to continue on HBO Max, we hear.
In Season 2 of the series from J.J. Abrams and Stephen King, a feud between warring clans came to a boil when budding psychopath Annie Wilkes (Caplan), King’s nurse from hell, got waylaid in Castle Rock. The Season 2 cast also included Yusra Warsama, Barkhad Abdi,...

“Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” is changing showrunners again.
“Prison Break” creator Paul Scheuring, who was tapped to replace Carlton Cuse and run season 3 of the Amazon show less than three months ago, has stepped away from the role, Variety has confirmed.
Vaun Wilmott, who previously worked with Scheuring on “Prison Break” and recently served as a producer on “Star Trek: Discovery,” will be taking over showrunning duties for the forthcoming season.
Cuse left the series in March 2019, and “All The Money in the World” writer David Scarpa was originally in position to showrun season 3, according to sources, but reportedly exited the production soon after coming on board.
“Jack Ryan” stars John Krasinski as the titular CIA agent who, in the second season, ventures into a Venezuelan jungle to investigate an illegal arms deal. Cuse originally partnered with fellow “Lost” writer Roland to bring the Tom Clancy adaptation to the small screen.

Exclusive: Prison Break creator Paul Scheuring has left Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan less than three months after he joined the Amazon thriller drama series as executive producer and Season 3 showrunner. His No.2, Vaun Wilmott (Star Trek: Discovery) will take over day-to-day showrunner duties.
Scheuring is primarily known as a screenwriter and TV creator who lives in Northern California and not as a in-the-trenches showrunner. After giving it a try on Jack Ryan, he found it not to be a good fit and asked to e released, sources said.
In John Krasinski, Jack Ryan has a star and executive producer who is also an accomplished writer-director and has been very involved in running the show, including the making of key creative and staffing decisions. He has now teamed with Wilmott to start work on scripts for the upcoming third season.
This is the second showrunner change on Jack Ryan over the past several months.

Castle Rock Season 2 Episode 5
A year ago, I would have cringed at the thought of an Annie Wilkes origin story. Surely, a character as iconic as Stephen King's psychotic fiction fan needs no prologue in 2019. A ham-handed "Misery: The Beginning" Hollywood movie would almost certainly defile the character worse than when Paul Sheldon decided to kill off his most famous heroine. Yet, here is Castle Rock to prove me completely wrong. "The Laughing Place" is not only an Annie Wilkes origin story but one of those special King-inspired stories we'll be talking about for a long time.

“Prison Break” creator Paul Scheuring will take over for Carlton Cuse on the third season of Amazon’s “Jack Ryan” series, the company confirmed.
Cuse, who has helmed the adaptation through its first two seasons, stepped away to focus on his upcoming Netflix series “Locke & Key.”
“Jack Ryan” is described as a “reinvention” of the Tom Clancy hero played by John Krasinski, who is also an executive producer. The series sees the former “The Office” star step into the role that’s been inhabited previously in films by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck and Chris Pine. “Jack Ryan” showrunner Carlton Cuse will take a step back from the Amazon series for Season 3, TheWrap has learned.
Cuse, who has helmed the adaptation through its first two seasons, will step down from day-to-day responsibilities for the recently ordered third season to instead focus on his upcoming Netflix series “Locke & Key.”
“Jack Ryan,” a series adaptation of the popular Tom Clancy novels, was picked up for a third season by Amazon last month, well ahead of the show’s return for Season 2.
Cuse co-created the series with former “Lost” writer Graham Roland. He is expected to remain attached to the series as an executive producer, and a search is currently underway for his replacement as showrunner.

Carlton Cuse will not be returning as showrunner for Season 3 of “Jack Ryan,” Variety has learned.
The former “Lost” helmer will stay on as Executive Producer, and Amazon has launched a search to find a replacement showrunner for the John Krasinski thriller series.
News of Cuse’s departure comes less than a month after the show was renewed for a third season by Amazon. He originally partnered with former “Lost” writer Graham Roland to bring the Tom Clancy adaptation to the small screen.
Cuse will likely now turn his attention to Netflix’s “Locke & Key,” which he is set to co-run with Meredith Averill. The show is currently shooting, but no premiere date has yet been announced.
Produced by Paramount Television, “Jack Ryan” was originally given a two-season order in 2016. Season 1 premiered last year to mostly positive reviews — mainly for star John Krasinski, who plays the titular CIA operative.

Jack Ryan is coming back for a third season. Jennifer Salke, the head of Amazon Studios, revealed Wednesday at TCA that the John Krasinski-fronted Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan will be back for a third run. She said that following the success of the political thriller’s first season and the creative on Season 2, she “saw no reason not to do” more episodes.
The series, which hails from the Lost duo of co-showrunner Carlton Cuse and writer Graham Roland, Platinum Dunes, Skydance Media and Paramount TV, is a small-screen reinvention with a modern sensibility of the famed and lauded Tom Clancy hero, starring Krasinski and Abbie Cornish. It centers on Jack Ryan (Krasinski), an up-and-coming CIA analyst thrust into a dangerous field assignment for the first time. He uncovers a pattern in terrorist communications that launches him into the center of a dangerous gambit with a new breed of...

Amazon has picked up a third season of “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan.”
Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke made the announcement at the Television Critics Association winter press tour on Wednesday.
Produced by Paramount Television, “Jack Ryan” was given a two-season order by Salke’s predecessor Roy Price in 2016. Season one premiered last year to primarily positive reviews — particularly for star John Krasinski, who plays the titular CIA operative.
“Compared with his rivals in the spy game, Ethan Hunt of ‘Mission: Impossible’ and Jason Bourne, Jack Ryan looks downright heroic in his ability to suit himself to a time in which automatic presumption that America is doing the right thing is on the decline,” critic Daniel D’Addario wrote in his review of season one’s first four episodes. He added, “Krasinski’s Ryan is fueled by data and by a willingness to listen, and he has goals in mind...

Ahead of its season 2 debut, Amazon has renewed “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” for a third season.
Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios made the announcement Wednesday during the Television Critics Association press tour.
The series is a “reinvention” of the Tom Clancy hero played by John Krasinski, who also executive produces. The pseudo-adaptation sees the former “Office” star step into the role that’s been inhabited previously in films by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck and Chris Pine. Though unlike those other four, the Amazon series is not a direct adaptation of any specific Clancy novel.
