Blondie rang in Coachella 2023 with a set of greatest hits, and to up the ante, they brought out legendary guitarist Nile Rodgers to round out a couple songs.
Rather than saving the best for last, the new wave legends came in swinging by opening with “One Way or Another” and going straight into “Hanging on the Telephone,” “Call Me,” “Maria,” and “The Tide Is High.” Rodgers then hit the stage for “Rapture,” Blondie’s 1980 song infamous for Debbie Harry’s “rap” bridge.
After that, Rodgers stayed on to perform “Backfired,” Harry’s debut solo song. The 1981 track appears on the singer’s first solo album, KooKoo, which Rodgers and his Chic bandmate, bassist Bernard Edwards, produced. From there, Blondie threw in “Long Time,” a cut from 2017’s Pollinator, before closing their set with “Heart of Glass” and “Dreaming.” Check out videos from their Coachella show below.

Blondie’s drummer has appeared to drop a massive bombshell about the band’s appearance at a certain festival this year.
The band’s drummer, Clem Burke has said that the band “are going to be playing” Glastonbury festival in June.
While being interviewed on Foxy Radio, Burke was asked about the band’s forthcoming show with Iggy Pop in Crystal Palace in July.
“We’re also doing Isle of Wight and we’re doing some other festivals,” the drummer begins in response to the mention of the show.
He then says: “I guess it hasn’t really been announced, the full list of artists to be playing Glastonbury, but we are going to be playing Glastonbury, so maybe you got an exclusive there.”...

In the late Seventies, Blondie were the most widely mocked band of Cbgb’s first punk wave — too pop, not rigorous enough. But after they hit Number One in early 1979 with “Heart of Glass,” their pasticheurs-and-proud stance not only made their string of hits a rare shot of excitement on early-Eighties radio, they foretold the way hits of the future would be stitched together from different genres. Blondie look increasingly visionary in the rearview.

The casts of “Fargo,” “Raging Bull,” “The Five Heartbeats,” and “The Royal Tenenbaums” will reunite at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival.
In addition, the festival, which is returning to in-person events after Covid scrambled plans for the 2020 edition, will host talks with the likes of Bradley Cooper, Amy Schumer, Gina Prince-Bythewood, M. Night Shyamalan, and members of the punk group Blondie.
The festival will take place largely in outdoor venues around each of the city’s five boroughs. It unfolds between June 9 to June 20, and comes nearly 20 years after the festival was founded in the wake of 9/11.
Just as that festival was formed to inspire people to return to lower Manhattan, which had been devastated by the terrorist attack, this iteration comes as New York City is struggling to reemerge from a pandemic that upended cultural and economic life.

Walter Lure, a cofounder of 1970s punk rock pioneers the Heartbreakers, died Aug. 22 of cancer at age 71, friends confirmed.

He became a stockbroker and continued performing until earlier this year, performing with ad hoc lineups. A live album of Walter Lure’s L.A.M.F. with Lure and Replacements bassist Tommy Stinson, MC5 guitarist Wayne Kramer, and Blondie drummer Clem Burke was released in 2017.

The Baywatch icon stays true to the original “Head On,” which Jesus and Mary Chain released as a single in 1989, complete with synths, drum machine and layers upon layers of guitar feedback. “Makes you want to feel makes you want to try,” Hasselhoff sings, his voice swelling over a searing riff.

When the Ramones first performed “Blitzkrieg Bop” at Cbgb some 44 years ago, no one could have imagined the song would be heard in virtually every stadium and in multiple TV spots for mainstream products like Coppertone, GoPro, Peloton, At&T and Taco Bell.
And punk rock, the genre of music that the Ramones and so many others ushered in, seemed destined for an equally short shelf life. Yet despite its built-to-self-destruct ethos, punk rock has not only endured, it continues to attract fans both old and young — anyone who’s read this far has probably already heard about the dust-up between Sex Pistols frontman John Lydon (aka Rotten) and former Ramones drummer Marc Bell at an onstage Q&A last week to promote the film, which is at turns hilarious, pathetic and ridiculous, and often all three at once.
Two current documentaries illustrate the genre’s remarkable durability and continued relevance:...

Starline Entertainment has boarded “Laughing at the Dark,” a documentary profile of Pieter-Dirk Uys, the South African satirist who skewered apartheid-era attitudes and who was praised by Nelson Mandela.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced its 2012 inductees, a list that includes the usual spate of Hof-y names (the Small Faces, ‘60s singer Donovan, blues guitarist Freddie King, etc) plus a handful of artists that made their mark in the MTV era: the Beastie Boys, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Guns N’ Roses.
And while none of those latter three are exactly surprising (though, we gotta admit, the Cure, who were also in the running this year but didn’t make the cut, were robbed), what may transpire when they’re enshrined at the Hall’s annual induction ceremony — set for April 14 in beautiful Cleveland — could shock the rock world to its very core. Because, as is tradition, the honored acts will take the stage to perform a medley of their biggest hits, and while we’re reasonably sure what will happen when the Beasties and the Peppers do their thing,...

New York (Reuters) - Here is some good advice: avoid standing behind Deborah Harry at airport security.
"I have a briefcase full of wires when I travel. I have to go through the X-ray machine and they're always looking at this massive tangle, like, 'what?'" laughs Harry, whose travel must-haves include an mp3 player, iPhone, iPad and e-Reader.
Keeping up with trends in culture and technology is one thing the 66-year-old Blondie singer and occasional tweeter said comes naturally. "It's just always been part of who I am," Harry told Reuters in a recent interview.
Still one electronic remnant of her old punk rock days can be found in her bag. "I still carry my very old-fashioned cassette player," she said.
Harry, among the earliest music video superstars, is currently on the road with original Blondie bandmates, guitarist Chris Stein and Drummer Clem Burke. The three...

New York (Reuters) - In more than 30 years since smash hit song "Heart of Glass" took Blondie from new wave upstarts to mainstream stars, frontwoman Deborah Harry has transformed herself many times, younger members have joined the band and albums have gone from vinyl to digital.
Still, the band's newest new wave is unmistakably Blondie.
On September 13, Blondie will celebrate the U.S. release of its ninth studio album, "Panic of Girls." In keeping with record industry trends, the album is being released independently on the group's own imprint and will be sold on CD and digital download exclusively on Amazon.com.
Harry, 66, whom Lady Gaga recently called "the most legendary woman in rock," said Blondie is just as much a part of the future as it is the past.
"We've got a loyal fan base that we want to keep. Instrumentally, we have our own tradition...

Blondie have confirmed plans to release their first studio album for seven years. The follow-up to 2003's The Curse Of Blondie is titled Panic Of Girls, the band's official website has confirmed. "Blondie's forthcoming studio album Panic Of Girls is coming soon. You can hear some of the new songs during Blondie's summer tour," a statement read. Drummer Clem Burke told Billboard: "We tried to make the recording process as organic as possible and tried to stay away from programming as much as we could, because [The Curse of Blondie] had a lot of programming (more)...
