Wrote the book Brother in Arms, an account of his return to Vietnam as
a journalist/civilian 15 years after leading a platoon there as a young
Lieutenant in the Marine Corps.
Attended the prestigious Rice University in Texas and was a Marshall
Scholar at Oxford.
He was inducted into the Texas Film Hall of Fame in March 2002 in Austin, Texas.
Son of William Dodson Broyles, Sr. and Elizabeth Bills. Has a younger
sister named Alice Elizabeth Broyles who was born in December of 1948.
Lives in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
Wrote a screenplay adaptation of the WWII novel "Earth, Wings and Fire"
for Cruise/ Wagner Productions.
Has written a Vietnam war script titled "Khe Sanh" which Tom Hanks will produce and star in. Broyles has also written a Western about cattle ranchers titled "Tom Harris" which Harrison Ford is currently rumored to star in. (September 2002)
While Broyles was born in Houston, he was subsequently raised in the neighboring city of Baytown Texas.
