- Hal Roach wanted Brandon for the role of Silas Barnaby in "Babes in Toyland" based on his performance as an old man in the theatre production of Ten Nights in a Bar Room. Brandon was only 21 at the time, and when he appeared in Roach's office without makeup, Roach demanded to know where the old man was. The part became his first major role.
