The most recent wrestling personality to appear on Chris Jericho’s Podcast One show was former WWE Champion and current announcer John Layfield, better known to fans as Jbl. The man formerly known as Bradshaw has had a lengthy career with WWE, dating back to late 1995 when he signed his contract, debuting the following January as Justin “Hawk” Bradshaw, a Texan roughneck heavily inspired by Stan Hansen.
He had a respectable career as a tag team wrestler, most notably as one half of the Apa (Acolyte Protection Agency) with Ron Simmons before a sudden dearth of name talent forced WWE to repackage him as John Bradshaw Layfiend–Jbl, for short–and shove him into the main event scene.
While his matches may not have been lighting the world on fire, he was doing his job in the ring and getting tremendous heat through his promos. The character was great at infuriating the audience,...

It's a perfect Lady Edith moment. I'm talking to Laura Carmichael a couple weeks back during the Television Critics Association press tour and early in our interview, she has to pause and take a call. She's all apologetic, but it's Ealing Studios and they've apparently forgotten that Carmichael isn't in England shooting "Downton Abbey," but rather she's Across the Pond promoting the upcoming fifth season. Ooops. That's the kind of thing that just doesn't happen with Lady Mary and Certainly wouldn't have happened with Poor Lady Sybil, rest in peace. But for Edith? Well, she's always had it harder. Lady Edith has reliably been forgotten, sneered at or grumbled about, but she perseveres. "Julian [Fellowes] has a theory that some people in life are lucky and some people are not. And Edith has not been lucky," Carmichael laughs. "But I think, to her credit, it's helped her be a far more...

On Monday (Jan. 6), WWE will presenting an old school version of "Raw," featuring many names from the company's history, who will join forces with current stars for a unique show. The arena is given a retro look, the ring looks like it's right out of the early '90s, and it's a night where everyone gets to have just a little bit more fun.
One of those taking part in the show is Brian James, better known to wrestling fans as Road Dogg, one half of the New Age Outlaws tag team. Zap2it had the chance to chat with Road Dogg about catching up with old friends in the wrestling business, what to expect from the show and who he thinks is going to go far in the "Royal Rumble," among other topics.
Zap2it: The old school "WWE Raw" concept is almost becoming an annual event at this point.

In Lawrence of Arabia he was insouciant, elegant and outrageously sexy. It was one of the most brilliant debuts in Hollywood history

Perhaps there were other actors as beautiful as Peter O'Toole in his 60s pomp but surely no one had such mesmeric eyes – the eyes of a seducer, a visionary or an anchorite, a sinner or a saint. That long, handsome face compellingly suggested something intelligent and romantic. But there was also something tortured there, sexually wayward and dysfunctional, something that no O'Toole character would ever entirely own up to.

One of the men accused of plotting to decapitate Joss Stone claims he had never heard of her. John Bradshaw, who is standing trial with flatmate Kevin Liverpool over a plan to abduct kill the 'You Had Me' singer in June 2011, told Exeter Crown Court he didn't know who she was and thought he was just 'going for a day out'. He said: 'We were going for a day out. I had not heard of Joss Stone before this. Kevin was interested in music. We listened to R&B and hip-hop.' The 32-year-old defendant and his 35-year-old flatmate were arrested seven miles from Joss' Devon home in June 2011 and police officers found a samurai sword, hammers, balaclavas, black bin...

Carrie Bradshaw has a date with The CW.
The Sex and the City prequel The Carrie Diaries will debut Monday, Jan. 14 at 8 p.m., with 90210 sliding to 9 p.m. Carrie Diaries will replace current Monday night mainstay Gossip Girl as 90210′s companion. Gossip Girl is wrapping up its shortened final season this fall.
No word yet on the fate of CW’s Beauty and the Beast (considered somewhat likely to get a full-season order) or Emily Owens M.D. (much less likely). Breakout drama Arrow, of course, already has a full ride.

Male bonding is at the heart of a new campaign for Lion beer brand Toohey’s New.
The ads, created by ad agency by Bmf, were directed by Aaron Stoller at Revolver.
Lion brand director, Jon Bradshaw, said: ‘Tooheys New at its core is all about connecting people. We recognize that in a world of Facebook, Twitter and other social media that people also need to reconnect with the stuff that really matters. And doing that over a Tooheys New is about as good as it gets. These ads show just how those bonds of mateship are created and then cemented over an icy cold New.”
Justin Ruben creative director at Bmf said: “The beauty of this campaign lies in the insight behind it, that strong bonds with mates are formed as a result of sharing an experience, doing stuff, or even going through an awkward situation together’.

The latest docu-collage from artist Andrew Kotting, about his family life in the Pyrenees, is something of a frustration
There are interesting moments in this brief, stylised feature from British artist and film-maker Andrew Kötting: a collage of images and voices. But I confess to finding it often opaque and slightly frustrating. These are impressions of his life in the French Pyrenean farmhouse where he lives with his partner Leila and 22-year-old daughter Eden, who has learning difficulties due to being born with a genetic disorder. With a deep and obvious love, Kötting films the paintings that his daughter completes: these are her still life studies, and perhaps the whole family has a "still life" in this remote region. It looks idyllic and probably is. There is something bold in recording their lives in something other than the brow-furrowing language of a conventional documentary about disability. But I found...

Full disclosure: I've been following the career of the Jonas Brothers for years now, so this clip of Joe Jonas being a very mature (and shirtless) with a girl in a hotel room in Paris is kind of like seeing my little brother's totally hot friend in a whole new light.
(Note to my little brother's friends, I don't think any of you are hot.)
That said, Joe's clip for "Just In Love With You" seems super steamy. And we're super into it. A teaser just dropped and it features Joe and his leading lady, Angele, being all in love and cuddling around in bed together. The teaser only lets us know that Joe is in Paris, romping around with Angele and that he has to leave soon. (Cue the tears!)
So, we're gonna imagine 5 other things we'd like to see happen before he bids au revoir to Paris.

Prom flagrantly disregards the honourable Hollywood tradition of portraying prom night as an unspeakable ordeal, and instead treats the subject with irony-free solemnity
If you're looking for a DVD for your tweenie sleepover, then here is the movie for you: a bland, Disney drama about all the heartache and craziness leading up to a high school graduation prom night. This movie flagrantly disregards the honourable Hollywood tradition of portraying prom night as an unspeakable ordeal, and instead treats the subject with saucer-eyed solemnity. It's entirely without the irony and savvy that we're used to from high- school movies. Here there's a distinct lack of, well, glee. Aimee Teegarden plays Nova, the lonely, hard-working high-school senior who is in charge of organising the prom and, oh irony, she doesn't have a date. Thomas McDonell (a bit of a Keanu soundalike) plays Jesse, the motorbike-riding bad boy who hates prom but is...

Dear readers; today is the day that I walk across a stage and shake hands with Donna Shalala to signify that I have completed the coursework required to earn my Masters degree from the University of Miami. I won't be receiving the Actual degree for another few weeks, but there are so many places in life where appearances are what matter and according to my family who have come to Miami to watch those ten seconds happen, this is one of those times. Besides, fetching the mail is never a good excuse to buy a fancy new dress and shoes and send out announcements. In fact, this column will be posted right around the time my commencement ceremony wraps up, so if you're feeling generous please spare a thought for me and the difficult job search that's in my immediate future. Also, I really hope the world doesn't end on...

Hello, Zoners!
I’m on vacation—but I would never miss my Fantasy League post! Fortunately, because I’m relaxing at my sister’s home, I have access to everything I need to write.
Last week brought us Stephen tramping through the Letterman set, discoursing on Donald Trump’s “wisdom,” and coining the phrase “journalistic grintegrity.” Of course, nothing is likely to equal the incredible news that dominated headlines and provided plenty of fodder for both Jon and Stephen. Nonetheless, the week ahead looks like fun to me, as Stephen welcomes a socially conscious rapper, an Oscar-winning actor, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, and an expert on man’s best friend.
By the way, even though Stephen’s our man, I would like to give a big thumbs-up to Jon, who I think was truly at the top of his game last week. Now…let’s go!

From a time before hip-hop and crack, cult documentary offers a vivid snapshot of south Bronx street life
"I've seen … 57s … I've seen 12-gauge shotguns, I've seen 12-gauge pumps … I've seen a .45 military special with a clip on the street … I've seen fuckin' Thompsons. A damn Thompson! I've seen it! I've seen hand grenades, I've seen damn beer-can bazookas getting made. That thing hit you, just the same as being hit with a gun! I've seen .22 zip guns, I've seen .38 zip guns. I see things you never think you'll see on the street. I've seen dynamite. I've seen all this, man; you'd be surprised. Pretty soon, they're going to steal the damn atom bomb!"
The young man recounts his amateur arsenal to the camera with a complete lack of drama or hyperbole, quickly ticking off the hardware of his daily life as though he were running through a shopping list.

He was beautiful as a young slave in Spartacus, yet Curtis's greatest role was in Some Like It Hot, dressed as a woman and wooing Marilyn Monroe

Obituary: Tony Curtis
Tony Curtis, a tremendously witty and self-deprecating raconteur in his later years, used to tell a story about starting out in the movies. Playing the tiny role of "bellboy" in the 1949 Barbara Stanwyck film The Lady Gambles, he was in his bellhop costume, getting ready to come on for a rehearsal, when he saw the director picking his way towards him behind the set over the light cables. Curtis fluttered with excitement: what did he want? Give advice about the craft of acting? To discuss his motivation? His characterisation? To discuss a fascinating, subliminal frisson of erotic connection with Stanwyck? At last the director arrived, leant over and hissed:...

This week! Why do so many fictional gay couples have a “man” and a “wife”? Are Glbt people too thin-skinned? What was up with Noah’s fashion on Noah’s Arc? Plus, why do so many gays hate Perez Hilton?
Have a question about gay male entertainment or life? Contact me here (and be sure and include your city and state and/or country!)
Q: Despite being 26, I think I have a good grasp on what makes a gay icon and a good political ally. But I have never heard of Rep. Aaron Schock (R-il), nor that he is a major gay-icon for politically astute people. And yet here’s The New York Times calling him a “gay icon” because of some photos that swept the blogosphere of him shirtless. Never mind that he voted against Enda and opposes civil marriage: he's young and hot, which is what makes him a gay-icon right?...

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- An atypically fine cast has been assembled for this low-budget Canadian comic-thriller, which sacrifices thrills in favor of off-kilter humor and quirky characterizations. While "Triggermen" too often recalls many previous examples of this now thoroughly worked-over genre, it does offer some diverting fun along the way as well as amusing portrayals by a gallery of familiar faces. The film received its U.S. premiere at the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival.
The least-known thespians on display are the two leads, British actors Adrian Dunbar ("The Crying Game") and Neil Morrissey ("Men Behaving Badly"). They play Andy and Pete, two small-time British crooks who stumble onto a windfall while staying at a Chicago hotel. Mistaken for the two hit men who have been hired by a local hoodlum Louis Di Bianco) to bump off crime boss Ben Cutler (Pete Postlethwaite), the pair take his money and string him along, trying to figure out how to maximize their good fortune without actually killing anybody. Their plans are complicated by the arrival of the two real triggermen, Terry (Donnie Wahlberg) and Tommy (Michael Rapaport), who are necessarily confused by the two interlopers. Romantic entanglements also figure prominently in the plot, with Andy's girlfriend (Amanda Plummer) haranguing him from overseas and Terry falling for the gorgeous Emma (Claire Forlani), who turns out to be the intended victim's daughter.
Tony Johnston's screenplay does a reasonably good job of handling the story line's complicated twists and turns but is less effective in treading the fine line between comedy and menace that is this genre's specialty. While there are more than a few funny lines -- Rapaport's hit man admonishing his neglectful partner that "This brings up my abandonment issues" is priceless, especially with the actor's deadpan delivery -- too often the script resorts to silliness for its own sake. Director John Bradshaw has attempted to enliven the proceedings with a variety of flashy photographic and editing tricks (freeze frames, speeded-up footage, etc.), which too often prove more distracting than illuminating.
The piece is ultimately rescued by the fine cast, which also includes Saul Rubinek in an entertaining cameo as a coked-up hood. Postlethwaite invests his portrayal with his usual grim dignity, Wahlberg is endearing as the lovestruck hit man, Rapaport underplays hilariously as his partner, and Dunbar and Morrissey form a solid comic team as the bumbling leads. The film also benefits tremendously from the well-chosen soundtrack of vintage rock and pop gems.
