‘Inferno.’
Director and co-writer Katherine Chediak Putnam has finished shooting the horror short Inferno and is now developing the project as a feature with Shayne Armstrong as script mentor.
Screen Queensland funded the short, one of four proof-of-concept projects, as part of its remit to give opportunities to new works and new voices.
Co-written by Putnam and Dean Law and produced by Law and Brenton Pinsent, Inferno stars Sam Cotton as Ray Wyatt, who tears down the remains of his burned-out childhood home to try to bury his family’s tragic past – only to find he is tormented by something sinister uncovered in the demolition.
Kieran McGinlay plays 12-year-old Dylan, Ray’s son, who struggles with the distance between the two and wants to know more about his family history, which Ray tries to avoid at any cost.

Neill Blomkamp’s dream of raising money from fans to turn his startup studio’s Vietnam War-set short film “Firebase” into a full-length film has ended, for now.
Oats Studios, which Blomkamp launched last year as an outlet for experimental shorts, said on Friday that it was canceling its “Firebase” crowdfunding effort because it hadn’t raised enough cash to make something “awesome.” Oats didn’t say how much it had raised but said it would issue refunds to everyone who contributed.
“Unfortunately we didn’t raise enough to do something truley [sic] awesome,” the studio said in a tweet Friday. “We would rather over deliver than create an average film. We thank the thousands of people who did back us- hang in there.”
To all backers of Firebase.. Oats will be refunding everyone who contributed completely. Unfortunately we didn't raise enough to do something truley awesome. We would rather over...

Sci-fi filmmaker Neill Blomkamp is turning to Twitch to present a kind of virtual film festival of five short movies — and entreat fans to open their wallets to fund production of a feature-length version of one of them, “Firebase.”
It’s the first time a Hollywood director has used Twitch to showcase films and tap into the video-broadcasting platform’s gaming-centric audience. Blomkamp’s Oats Studios will live-stream the five short films Wednesday, April 11, starting at 11 a.m. Pacific on twitch.tv/oatsstudios.
The Oats Studios films are: “Rakka,” a 22-minute movie about an Earth enslaved by reptilian aliens starring Sigourney Weaver; “Zygote,” an Arctic-set horror short starring Dakota Fanning, which also runs about 22 minutes; “God,” a 4-minute short about a deity manipulating a tribe of prehistoric humans; 5-minute CGI film “Kapture: Fluke,” about a military-weapons manufacturing plant that uses unethical means to test its products; and “Firebase,” a 27-minute...

Sex sells. If the average marketing campaign in the United States can convince you of anything, it’s that. Equal parts Kinsey and Ally McBeal, Show Me Yours dances along that fine line separating sexual promiscuity and exploration. So why didn’t Show Me Yours ever get the American attention such a sex-oriented feature would typically garner? Even after the first episode it’s abundantly clear that sex is the order of the day, after all, it’s at the dead center of the plot. For whatever reason, the age of Canadian-to-American television pipeline seems to have dried up. Show Me Yours may have found an American outlet via Oxygen (you know, the other channel aimed primarily at women), but it never found the audience it really deserved.
Dr. Kate Langford (Rachael Crawford) studies sex from the psychological angle. Her ideas are fresh and she even has a book deal in the works.
