Exclusive: Nature-loving cinephiles can catch David Cross and Debra Messing in their Robert Pyle-inspired The Dark Divide next month thanks to Strike Back Studios, Rei Co-op and the National Wildlife Federation.
The Public House and Tbve film, helmed by Spirit Award-winning Marwencol producer and Burn director Tom Putnam, will make its virtual theatrical release on Sept. 18. Inspired by Dr. Robert Pyle’s personal life and his 1995 book Where Bigfoot Walks: Crossing the Dark Divide, the film sees Cross embark on a six-week journey through Washington’s Gifford Pinchot National Forest as the butterfly expert himself. The brothers and industry veterans have teamed up with financier Speer on a production venture that kicks off with sci-fi thriller Confluence.
Roland Emmerich, for whom Peter Winther (pictured at left) served as associate producer on Independence Day, will serve as executive producer on the story set in a future where the line between humans and machine has become blurred.
John Irwin wrote the screenplay and makes his feature directorial debut later this year.

The story follows a young man who escapes the mundane reality of his life by entering a virtual reality world called New Angeles. In this alternate reality, he adopts a new identity and begins living up to his full potential. At the same time he starts unlocking a mystery that has real-world consequences for him and his family.
Emmerich and Reeves will executive produce the show for Slingshot Global Media and Centropolis. Emmerich will direct the pilot which "Don't Look Back" author and "Batman" comics writer Gregg Hurwitz will pen. Other executive producers include Hurwitz, Stephen Hamel, Kirstin Winkler and Aaron Boyd.

Slingshot Global Media announced today that they will partner with Centropolis. Roland Emmerich to direct and executive produce a science fiction television series, "New Angeles". Stephen Hamel and Keanu Reeves of Company Films brought the project to Centropolis and will executive produce alongside Emmerich. Kirstin Winkler and Aaron Boyd of Centropolis will serve as co-executive producers. Gregg Hurwitz was brought on board to write the project and will executive produce with the others. Slingshot Global Media will produce and distribute the series.
The show will be set in the future, based around a young man who escapes the mundane reality of his life by entering an exciting virtual reality world called New Angeles. Once down the rabbit hole, he adopts a new identity, becoming the man he was always destined to be, and in the process, unlocking the keys to a mystery that has real world consequences for him and his family.
