Toronto-based Summit Entertainment and E1 Entertainment plan to develop/produce a TV series, based on Summit’s 2009 feature film "Push".
Directed by Paul McGuigan, "Push" stars Chris Evans, Dakota Fanning, Djimon Hounsou, and Camilla Belle, following a group of people born with super powers who band together to attempt to take down a government agency using a dangerous drug to create an army of super soldiers.
Screenwriter David "Watchmen" Hayter, will script the TV series pilot.
E1 and Dark Hero Studios, co-owned by Hayter and producing partner Benedict Carver, will jointly produce the series based on the screenplay created by David Bourla for Summit Entertainment. Hayter and Carver will be executive producers, along with E1’s Noreen Halpern and John Morayniss.
"The concept behind the Push feature film offers a broad and rich canvas on which to extend the storyline and characters introduced in the feature film," said Summit Co-Chairmen Rob Friedman.

You know the old saying: "If at first you don't succeed, why not try TV?" That's the saying, right? Well, it's certainly apropos for Push, the mostly forgettable sci-fi flick about whatever it was about, telekinetic superheroes or something.
As a box office performer, Push was merely a slow roller to the shortstop that ended in a routine out at first base. It debuted with only $10 million and didn't even recover its very manageable $38 million budget in the Us. Ah, but what about those foreign numbers? Another $12.6 million. So, factoring in advertising expenses, it didn't make money. Oh, but the DVD sales were a whopping $15 million meaning...not much.
So how in the world is this ripe for a shot on the small screen? Variety reports that Summit Entertainment has teamed up with E1 Entertainment to spin the original screenplay by David Bourla into a series. David Hayter, who co-wrote Watchmen,...

Superheroes had quite a year in 2009. From Watchmen finally getting it’s film adaptation, to lesser known superhero flicks getting made, the world of Superhero films certainly grew. With that came a spec script from David Bourla about a select group of people with mental abilities in the film Push, starring Chris Evans and Dakota Fanning.
The film did marginally well in theaters, and Summit Entertainment is now planning to expand on the property by bringing it to your TV’s. The studio is teaming up with another indie company in E1 Entertainment to bring a global series into homes. They even have David Hayter, who adapted Watchmen and X-Men for film, writing the pilot script.
They currently don’t have a deal with any particular network, as they are currently meeting with many. No word on if any of the film’s cast, such as Evans or Fanning, will return in the weekly series.

Summit Entertainment, the upstart film outfit behind the "Twilight" phenom as well as critical fave "The Hurt Locker," is doing what all clever indies do: "pushing" into TV.
The company is partnering with another indie, E1 Entertainment, to jointly develop and produce a TV series based on Summit's recent pic "Push."
The series will purportedly be an extension of the science-fiction thriller, centered on people with paranormal powers who band together to take down a corrupt government agency. The small-screen "Push" project furthers the relationship established in 2007 between Summit and E1, with the latter licensing exclusive distribution rights to Summit-produced movies in the U.K. and Canada.
Screenwriter David Hayter, who penned "Watchmen" and two of the "X-Men" movies, will script the series pilot. E1 and Dark Hero Studios, co-owned by Hayter and producing partner Benedict Carver, will jointly produce the series based on the screenplay created by David Bourla for Summit.

Paul McGuigan’s “Push” is like the X-Men without the goofy outfits and codenames. That’s really the best way to describe the film, a mixture of comic book action-adventure and crime caper. Written by David Bourla and directed by McGuigan (“Lucky Number Slevin”), I’ve been interested in “Push” ever since the first time I heard about it years ago, although it appears as if the film’s plot has morphed somewhat, because the first time I heard about the film it sounded more like a heist flick with superpowered criminals. In any case, the finished product boasts a wonderful cast and is quite entertaining from beginning to end, so in that respect you can probably forgive it for being a tad too generic for its own good. The film stars Chris Evans (the Human Torch from the “Fantastic Four” films) as Nick Gant, a psychic who can move things with his mind.

Release Date: Feb. 6
Director: Paul McGuigan
Writers: David Bourla
Cinematographer: Peter Sova
Starring: Dakota Fanning, Chris Evans, Camilla Belle
Studio/Run Time: Summit Entertainment, 111 mins.
Listless superpower flick can't sort out story
By turns frantic and somber, the resolutely convoluted thriller Push dashes from genre to genre in search of a reason to exist. Directed in a rush by Paul McGuigan (Lucky Number Slevin), the movie follows a vaguely superheroic clan of misfits pursued through Hong Kong by a government agency—American, of course—that seeks to assemble them into a dream army. Enter nominal dude protagonist (Chris Evans, pretty and vacant) as he teams up with a precocious teen (Dakota Fanning) after Uncle Sam comes calling for an escaped test subject (Camilla Belle) with the ability to control minds.

The players: Director: Paul McGuigan, Writer: David Bourla, Cast: Chris Evans, Dakota Fanning, Camilla Belle, Cliff Curtis, Djimon Hounsou
Facts of interest: McGuigan also directed "Wicker Park."
The plot: Three individuals with special powers are on the run from a ruthless government agency with evil intentions.
Our quick thoughts: In Paul McGuigan’s sci-fi thriller “Push,” three individuals with great powers are on the run from a ruthless government agency trying to capture and turn them into deadly weapons. But what sounds like a film filled with awesome action and suspense is in reality not as captivating as I originally thought.

Push Directed by: Paul McGuigan Cast: Chris Evans, Dakota Fanning, Camilla Belle, Djimon Hounsou Running Time: 1 hr 50 mins Rating: PG-13 Plot: A group of people with telekinetic powers (Evans, Fanning, and Belle) are being hunted by a government agency called Division. At the same time, they must prevent a super-serum from getting into the agency's hands. Who’s It For? The dating crowd that didn't plan on seeing He's Just Not That Into You anyway. Expectations: Isn't this around the same time that the similar-looking, super-stupid Jumper came out last year? Scorecard (0-10) Actors: Chris Evans as Nick Gant: Screenwriter David Bourla has constructed a likable character with Nick - Evans just gives him a good face/body. The twenty-something wafting around Hong Kong is a solid example of Push's idea that these special abilities are more burdening than they...

Sometimes, as bad as it may sound, one is almost thankful that a film bombs out at the box office. Much-beloved classics, especially in a series of films like “The Pink Panther,” should never be remade. I say one would be thankful because perhaps they won’t add another abomination to their lineup. Now, the follow-up to the reincarnation, which stars a buffet of talented actors, has debuted in fourth spot with a paltry $12 million from 3,243 venues, averaging just $3,700 per theatre. The first may have made over $80 million domestically simply from crowd curiosity – you can’t pull that move twice. Sorry fellas. Instead, the more deserved contender in Warner Bros. Pictures’ “He’s Just Not That into You” topped the charts with an estimated $27.4 million. The film starring Ben Affleck, Jennifer Aniston, Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Connelly, Justin Long, Drew Barrymore and Kevin Connolly opened into 3,175 locations and averaged $8,650 per theatre.

In Paul McGuigan's action flick "Push," three individuals with supernatural abilities are on the run from a ruthless government agency. Dakota Fanning, Chris Evans, Camilla Belle and Djimon Hounsou star. Here is what online's critics have to say about it:
• Ron Henriques at LatinoReview: "There are double-crosses, continuous plot turns and even the notion that every step of the plan against the villains was devised long before our heroes were born, but none of it is powerful enough to hold interest."
• Matt Goldberg at Collider: "'Push' loves its world of special powers in the big Hong Kong landscape but it doesn't love those powers or the characters that using them."
• Brad Brevet at RopeOfSilicon: "Director Paul McGuigan did all he could with the limited budget using camera effects, flashy editing and a few effects here and there to make this film seem like it was bigger than it really is,...

Dakota Fanning is the Littlest Action Hero in this disappointingly generic shoot-’em-up dressed up with a few paranormal frills about regular people with capital-p Powers whom the government experiments on, hoping to turn them into weapons, until they escape and start causing havoc. Fanning (The Secret Life of Bees), a street urchin who can see the future, teams up with telekinetic Chris Evans (Street Kings), whose charm is wasted here, to find a missing suitcase -- crammed with, supposedly, $6 million -- that was allegedly stolen by Camilla Belle (10,000 B.C.), who can “push” ideas into people’s heads, when she made her great government escape. Or did she? The concept that notions can be “pushed” into one’s head seems like the ideal excuse for a mind frak, but no such luck here, as the wide-open possibilities this world presents are all but disposed of as of less interest...
