BBC Studios has optioned Black Crown’s “Eve Stranger” comic book title, created by David Barnett and Philip Bond, for development as a live-action TV series:
“…’Eve’ has unlimited funds, a jet-set lifestyle, and extraordinary abilities. And her bloodstream is filled with ‘nanobombs’. The contents of a syringe will deactivate them for a week and also wipe her memory.
“So what happens when you develop a sneaking suspicion that you’re actually working for the bad guys? …”

If a story has a moral that says, basically, “stories like this one are not as important or good as other kinds of stories, which are more special,” is that enough to make you throw it across the room in disgust?
In this case, it didn’t…mostly because it was a library book, and I don’t want to damage someone else’s things. But Michael Chabon’s The Escapists has a severe case of wanting to eat its cake and have it too, even though The Escapist is a pretty unappetizing cake to hang onto.
Perhaps I should explain.
Michael Chabon wrote a novel, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, almost twenty years ago, a fictionalized version of the Simon/Kirby team. In that novel, the main characters created a Golden Age superhero called The Escapist.
For some reason, The Escapist turned into a real comic book,...

For some of us, the 1990s was a certain kind of Golden Age of Comics. The success of Image Comics meant that creators were given a lot of freedom to do what they liked, with deep-pocketed corporations competing to see who could throw the most money at the talent. It was in this environment that DC launched the Vertigo imprint, and eventually set up a satellite office in London.
Art Young was in charge, fresh from a brief stint at Touchmark, Disney’s pre-Marvel attempt at the Direct Market. The only other person on staff was Tim Pilcher. Together, they published a slew of books (including most of the books originally commissioned for Touchmark) and generally made comics seem even cooler.
I only met Tim Pilcher a few times, although we talked on the phone fairly often. He always struck me as a delight, quick and funny and smart – although it should be noted that,...

Not sure if this is an easy review to write, because it is essentially more of the same as last issue, or a hard review to write as I need to try and find original things to say! All the artists (all with previous Tank Girl credentials) are back from last issue, along with the main draw of original creators Alan Martin and Jamie Hewlett and, as you would expect, you get exactly what it says on the tin.
Firstly, I have to confess to loving that cover by Brett Parson. Cheeky, sexy, risqué of course, but also showing great composition and a master class in designing an eye catching cover. A bit like the main character herself, it is possibly a ‘love it’ or ‘hate it’ cover as well.

Tank Girl to me is a character very evocative of a certain time in history, the late 1980′s/ early 1990′s, when she became something of a counter-culture icon. she seemed to arrive at the perfect time, when British students were rebelling against the previous decade of conservatism in all things. I remember, as a student then, Tank Girl T-shirts and posters pretty much everywhere. Her ‘death’ as a cultural icon probably came about with the 1995 movie Tank Girl, which (whisper it quietly) wasn’t really very good. But I digress….
21st Century Tank Girl sees Titan bring us new adventures of Tank Girl, having published all things Tank Girl for many years.

WildStorm's new series Red Herring will debut this week, the publisher has announced. The story follows a paranoid secret agent as he attempts to thwart a conspiracy in Capital Hill, with the help of sceptical secretary Maggie MacGuffin. Slated for release on August 12, the book is written by David Tischman, with artwork from Philip Bond. The pair has previously collaborated on Angel And The Ape for DC Comics. "Red Herring is a human story with many curve balls - each one distracting you from what's really going on," Tischman told Newsarama. "[Co-creator Philip Bond] and I wanted it that way.
