Bill Pullman probably isn’t the first actor you’d think would be cast to portray a drug-addicted sociopath who is convicted of killing his wife Maggie and son Paul, as he does playing Alex Murdaugh in the Lifetime two-part docudrama “Murdaugh Murders: The Movie.” This is, after all the same guy who played the heroic President of the U.S. in the 1996 blockbuster “Independence Day,” and his impressive career has found him playing an assortment of characters similarly defined by their inherent decency. This is also a man who has been married for 37 years – to the same woman. Not that Pullman necessarily sees himself as having a brand. “Everybody says, ‘Oh, you do’,” he admits. “But I think I’m available for (the whole of) human behavior. And it’s nice to live on the other side every once in a while.” Watch the exclusive video interview above.

Bill Pullman thinks he was the last person on earth who hadn’t heard of Alex Murdaugh, the personal injury attorney who was found guilty in the double homicide of his wife, Maggie, and son Paul.
Fortunately for the veteran actor, there was gobs of video to help him prepare for his role in Murdaugh Murders: The Movie for Lifetime’s ripped-from-the-headlines slate of movies last fall.
“South Carolina allows video in courtroom. There was hours and hours of behavior, that 911 call, the body cam of the first officer arriving on the scene,” Pullman recalled Saturday at Deadline TV Contenders. “It’s really interesting about real transcripts. You realize how sociopaths have this cauterized morality. The way they are moving through a sentence. They talk one way at the beginning at the sentence and then they sense there is somewhere better to go. You would never write that as a writer.

If you haven't tuned into Lifetime's Murdaugh Murders: The Movie event, you're missing out on a scintillating depiction of one of the century's most heinous crimes.
And you've also deprived yourself of a remarkable performance by the acclaimed Bill Pullman, who we reiterate was truly transformative in the role.
The Murdaugh murder trial gripped the nation and sparked multiple documentaries.
It only seemed fitting that such a notorious case would not only appear on Lifetime's True Crime slate but also that the two-part movie event helmed by one of the finest actors of our time would serve as the network's milestone 500th original film over three decades.
The two-part movie event, and especially Pullman's performance, stick with you and should be on everyone's radar.

Bill Pullman is such a talent.
It's challenging to capture the essence of a person people have become familiar with during such a high-profile trial.
But without a shadow of a doubt, Bill Pullman slays his role, and we get to see more of his range and his capabilities during Murdaugh Murders Part 2.
It's nothing short of riveting to watch his interpretation of Alex Murdaugh, and he kicked it up a notch during part two of this movie event.
While the timeline of Murdaugh Murders Part 1 had a lot of heavy lifting to do as far as setting the pace for how the family seemed before everything fell apart and just what started kicking matters into gear with Paul, we had a tighter time frame to work with which made the pacing significantly better and more intense.

At times it feels like if a news story breaks on Friday, Lifetime is there on Monday with an original movie at the ready. The speed of this brand that’s been around since 1984 isn’t just surprising to fans and reporters in the TV space.
“We surprise ourselves sometimes,” senior vice president of scripted programming Tia Maggini told TheWrap.
One of those surprising turnarounds happened around “Murdaugh Murders: The Movie,” a two-part project that makes history on Saturday for being the 500th original movie to air on the network.
According to Maggini, the team at Lifetime had been following the story of the Murdaugh family murders from the beginning. Though the “crazy” story captured their attention, the team was hesitant to move forward “legally” until the had a more definite idea of who committed the murders. But once Alex Murdaugh was arrested, the team went to work “towards the top of this year.

Film fans talk about the 1990s as another Golden Age of cinema. Not only is there the jam-packed year of 1999, which gave us classics such as The Matrix, Toy Story 2, and The Talented Mr. Ripley, but the 90s also saw the rise of new auteurs, including Quentin Tarantino, Paul Thomas Anderson, David Fincher, and Guillermo del Toro. Hollywood turned its attention to indie and foreign films, enriching a moviegoing experience that still featured fan-favorite blockbusters.
But to really see how good the 90s were, we can’t just look at the hits. Rather, the flops tell us the true tale of the decade’s quality – the movies that audiences skipped at the time but have proven their worth in the years that followed. Here are the best flops of the 1990s; films that couldn’t find a wide enough audience upon release, but still deserve attention today.

Premiering on October 25, 1997, Under Wraps was the inaugural Disney Channel Original Movie. The cornerstone of the network’s programming proved to be as close to appointment viewing as it got for ‘90s kids, along with the likes of ABC’s Tgif and Nickelodeon’s Snick. Moreover, Under Wraps served as a gateway to horror for many millennials. Before the age of streaming, catching a mummy movie on the same channel where you watched Disney cartoons and Boy Meets World reruns could have been your first exposure to the macabre.
Disney attempted to recapture the magic with last year’s Under Wraps remake. The original movie was successful — and continues to hold up 25 years later — for several reasons; relatable kid leads, a great Halloween atmosphere, and a sense of humor chief among them. Director/co-writer Alex Zamm and co-writer William Robertson (Inspector Gadget 2) smartly maintained those elements for the new iteration.

Kevin Alejandro’s “Lucifer” character, detective Dan Espinoza, really went through the full spectrum of human emotion — and took fans along for the ride — in the Netflix drama’s Season 5B, as Dan is at the center of the installment’s funniest hour and its biggest tearjerker a few episodes later.

Leonard Roberts is best known for his roles in the movie “Drumline,” and on the television shows “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “American Crime Story,” “Major Crimes” — and for his performance as D.L. Hawkins on the first season of NBC’s “Heroes.” While the fantasy show debuted in 2006 to immediate blockbuster status, making overnight sensations of many of its stars — including Zachary Quinto, Masi Oka, Milo Ventimiglia and Hayden Panettiere — Roberts’ time on the show was far more troubled. As he details in his account below, he experienced immediate friction with his main co-star Ali Larter — and perceived indifference from creator and showrunner Tim Kring — that led him to feel singled out as a Black actor, a feeling that only grew more intense after he was fired from the show after its first season.

“I’m so excited to be doing season two with everybody because we have so many other things to explore with these characters and other avenues and other characters that existed in the world to meet and introduce,” he said at DC’s FanDome. “We’ll do it the best way we can and will do it our own pace.”
On Saturday, John sat down with stars Brec Bassinger, Amy Smart, Yvette Monreal, Anjelika Washington and Cameron Gellman to reflect on the show’s premiere season and tease what’s yet to come for DC’s Stargirl. The series, which was renewed for its sophomore season in July, follows Courntey Whitmore, a.k.a. Stargirl (Bassinger), as she inspires the...

One of the best DC Comics TV shows has just finished its super and terrific first season. Fans of DC Universe’s “Stargirl” were treated to an exciting Season One Finale filled with a Justice League vs the Injustice Society battle, as well as a little cliffhanger for Season 2.
The surprises in season finale gave us so many cool twists and turns, and of course, deep comic book Easter eggs. Plus we got to meet the Seven Soldiers of Victory, a team of Golden Age lawmen, along with team member, “Shining Knight”. And even though the Seven Soldiers never got the name recognition the Justice Society had, they still hold their own special place in the history of the DC Universe.

DC’s Stargirl is returning for a second season on the CW. The network has renewed the breakout superhero series starring Brec Bassinger based on the DC characters. Additionally, the network will become the exclusive in-season home to the series next season, with episodes airing on the CW network and streaming the next day on the CW’s free, ad-supported streaming platforms.
This will make DC’s Stargirl, initially a DC Universe original, a CW series. The first season of the series was commissioned by the DC Universe digital subscription service. The CW last fall acquired an exclusive linear window as well as play on the network’s non-linear platforms following its debut on DC Universe. It’s been a long time coming, but Hush is finally making a full comic-accurate appearance in Batwoman. We got our first look at the villain in the new trailer for episode nineteen of the show, entitled “A Secret Kept From All the Rest,” and you can check it out for yourself up above.
Comic book fans will have known this transformation has been coming since the third episode way back in October 2019, when we were first introduced to Gabriel Mann’s Thomas Elliot. In the source material, Elliot was a childhood friend of Bruce Wayne’s born into a similarly wealthy family. The pair had a lot in common, sharing smarts, cunning and strategic thinking. However, their stories soon drastically diverged. Elliot hated his parents and wished to be free of them, going so far as to attempt to murder them in a car crash.
His mother survived though,...

DC’s Stargirl TV series has seen its release date shift slightly…but not too much! Originally scheduled to premiere on Monday, May 11 on the DC Universe streaming service with a broadcast to follow on the CW on Tuesday, May 12, Stargirl will now arrive on DC Universe a week later, on Monday, May 18 instead, with the CW broadcast to follow on Tuesday, May 19th. The premiere date shift might reflect a need for The CW to fill holes in its schedule since the latter episodes of most of its heavy hitters like The Flash, Supernatural, Supergirl, Batwoman, and others have been temporarily delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic.
But the good news is that from that point forward it looks like the rest of the series is right on schedule, and DC Universe and The CW have confirmed air dates and revealed official details about the first five episodes!
Just a quick note,...

Timeless fans will get closure. NBC has ordered a two-part series finale of the Sony Pictures TV-produced time-travel series to air during the holidays.
“While we wish we could’ve made another dozen seasons of Timeless, this is the next best thing,” said Timeless creators/executive producers Shawn Ryan and Eric Kripke said. “We’re thrilled to take the Lifeboat out for one last spin and bring closure to our story. The studio, network, cast and crew are all doing this for one reason only: the fans. Because they deserve it. Because the fans made this happen and we thank them for their passion, support and helicopters. So? You guys want to get Rufus back or what?”
Spoiler Alert. In the Season 2 ender, soldier Wyatt (Matt Lanter) and historian Lucy (Abigail Spencer) return from their latest mission without their trusted engineer Rufus (Malcolm Barrett), who was killed. But in a last-second twist,...

“Timeless” isn’t fading into history just yet. NBC has struck a deal with Sony Pictures TV to wrap up the series — which ended its second season with a major cliffhanger — via a two-part finale that will air during the holiday season.
The “Timeless” wrap-up comes after NBC canceled the show this May, and Sony Pictures TV tried but couldn’t maneuver a third season renewal at another outlet.
In a press release, executive producers Shawn Ryan and Eric Kripke promised “one final emotional story for the Time Team.”

We live in times where superhero stories have been told from every possible perspective. There’s the gritty, Dark Knight-style reboot in Arrow, buoyant yet thoughtful fun in The Flash, a daft workplace sitcom in Powerless. The inundation of superhero stories contributes immensely to the juncture we’re in known as ‘peak TV’, and network execs are spending a great deal of money and time trying to locate any untapped angle. While Arrow effectively set the ball rolling when it came to the DC TV universe, it would be remiss not to mention Smallville.

Heroes Reborn, Season 1, Episode 3, “Under the Mask”
Written by Seamus Kevin Fahey
Directed by Greg Beeman
Airs on Thursdays at 8 pm (Et) on NBC
Family is as important to the universe of Heroes as Primatech or people inexplicably coming back to life. The Petrellis and the Nakamuras and the Bennets and the Sureshs had grand lineages that went into controlling the evos, exploiting them, and understanding them. This focus grounds the series: We all have family and understand the various pains and strains that those relationships and exceptions generate in life. This also theoretically gives the show ample opportunity to mine and explore new conflicts. But as was seen ten or so years ago, only so many times can Heroes have Peter and Nathan stand at opposite ends of a crisis only to come together at the end, with one of them scarifying themselves, before the audience gets actively angry at the show.

Heroes Reborn's back-to-basics approach gets the new series off to a strong start, despite a crowded overly expositional opening...
This review contains spoilers.
1.1 Brave New World & 1.2 Odessa
The first season of Tim Kring’s original Heroes was special. I came away from each episode wishing that I too was an ‘Evo’ (they’re called that now apparently), imagining how exciting it would be to inhabit the same world of secretive paper companies and teleporting swordsmen. Subsequent seasons didn’t have quite the same impact; having a power began to seem like quite a lot of hassle and frankly, not worth the bother. The remit for Heroes Reborn then is quite clear: deliver something approaching the quality of the first season with its rich characters and slick converging storyline or face the derision of fans whose patience and good will for this franchise is on life support.

Heroes Reborn, Season 1, Episode 1, “Brave New World”
Season 1, Episode 2, “Odessa”
Written by Tim Kring
Directed by Matt Shakman (“Brave New World”), Greg Beeman (“Odessa”)
Airs on Thursdays at 8 pm (Et) on NBC
Every new show has to work to sell the viewer on why it deserves to exist instead of, say, a new season of Hannibal. We are busy people with lives and limited time to commit to a series that is either going to bore us or break our hearts. In this era of Peak TV, Fomo is real and it is crippling. So networks have figured out that is easier to greenlight a nostalgia series (Twin Peaks, The X-Files, Fuller House) than a new series. It has a built in audience! It’ll automatically generate headlines! Though NBC appears to be making a similar decision with Heroes Reborn, deciding to bring back a series that many soured on...

Falling Skies ends season 4 with a decent enough double-bill but is really starting to show its age. Here's Ron's review...
This review contains spoilers.
4.11 Space Oddity & 4.12 Shoot The Moon
Increasingly, there's been a trend among television shows to turn season finales from a single episode into a big event. In some cases, they actually film a two-hour episode and make it a legitimate special event. More commonly, the big finale event is just two episodes shown back to back, perhaps with a little editing to make them flow together a bit better (or to cut out the recap). In the case of Falling Skies, you get two back-to-back episodes to finish off the fourth season and pave the way for the show's final season next summer. The episodes covered a lot of ground, and I debated with myself for entirely too long how to best handle the review. In the end,...

Tom Mason is shooting for the moon in this week's Falling Skies. Here's Ron's review of Till Death Do Us Part...
This review contains spoilers.
4.9 Till Death Do Us Part
If a show actively has characters lampshading decisions, does it still count? Falling Skies, which typically opts for the happiest of all choices in the end, even when it comes to betrayal, had a character from Matt's past return in a big way this week. While Tom, Cochise, Anne, Weaver, and Matt—you know, the most important people in Charleston and the leadership of the Second Mass—are off looking for a cache of Volm weapons, Mira runs into them on the road. She spins an implausible story about how she graduated from the camp but just happened to run into them on the road and that she's thrown her Espheni dog whistle away, but Tom and Weaver see through it pretty instantly.

In a more fair world, one where television shows are not judged by the announcement of their intention to exist but instead by the content of the episodes they produce (which is to say, a world without Twitter), we would keep our mouths shut and wait for Heroes: Reborn to hit the airwaves next year before deeming it the mediocre thing it has every chance of being. But my editors tell me that taking a respite from obsessing over True Detective “might be healthy” for me. And anyways, there are some legit things to fret in theory about the...

Michael Rosenbaum and the gang are taking a trip down memory lane in the all new side-splitting comedy Back In The Day and because I like you, you’re coming along for the ride. Recently, I sat down with Michael Rosenbaum, to talk about his experiences tackling his first feature as both the writer and director. Not only that, but he stars in the film as well. Michael is a buddy of mine, but we never talk shop so this was a real treat for me.
Back In The Day is the first feature film written and directed by Rosenbaum. He also stars in the film alongside Morena Baccarin Harland Williams, Sarah Colonna, Nick Swardson and Isaiah Mustafa. The film was acquired by Screen Media Films in early October, and will be making it’s way to theaters on January 17, 2014. Can’t wait that long? Well, you are in luck!
