College applications and the SATs are already part of a stressful time for young people without adding murder to the mix. Much like her contemporaries, though, Nicole Davidson knew death could strike at any time or any place. The young-adult author uses this familiar rite of passage as the backdrop of her 1990 novel Crash Course. The setup is suspicious enough; eight teens in pursuit of higher learning, along with their strict teacher, hole up at a lakeside cabin during the Thanksgiving holiday. This recipe for danger is self-fulfilling once a student dies under strange circumstances. And until help arrives, the other students succumb to their isolation and growing paranoia.
The teen characters of Crash Course are more or less strangers who have been sentenced to five days with Mr. Alexander Porter, a hard-as-nails teacher who runs a program for students planning to take the SATs. The story’s 16-year-old protagonist,...

Danielle Pyne and Chris Baxter were the latest Love Island hopefuls to exit the show on Thursday night (June 18), after being chosen to leave by 'Power Couple' Jon Clark and Hannah Elizabeth.
Speaking to press including Digital Spy the couple tell us how - given the chance - they'd kick out self-appointed leader Jon and his official girlfriend Hannah in order to give the other Islanders a chance.
The pair also predicted the demise of Joshua Ritchie and Naomi Ball's relationship, and backed "underdogs" Jordan Ring and Daisy Muller to win the show.
Danielle also heavily criticised the ITV2 show for being over-produced and staging conversations and situations between the contestants. She also suggested that had she gone along with what she claims the programme had wanted and faked a relationship with former partner Luis Morrison, she would still be in the villa now.

Current Love Island couple Daisy Muller and Jordan Ring finally kiss on tonight's episode (June 18).
Glamour model Daisy confides in Naomi Ball about her feelings toward Jordan, enthusing that they "get on so well".
"Jordan, he's such a lovely guy, I love being with him and I know he was definitely the right decision, we get on so well," she says.
"But then I feel like he's been a bit more flirty with me, I feel bad on him because I think he wants us to be more lovey dovey."
Naomi asks whether they've kissed or not, with Daisy replying no but insisting it will happen, before revealing her plan to "get him alone and give him a little kiss".
She continues excitedly: "I can sense that something's definitely happening now... I'm so happy and excited... I'm definitely feeling the romance."

A love triangle is developing on tonight's Love Island (June 18) as Omar Sultani plans his next move on Jess Hayes, while Jess plots to snare an unsuspecting Luis Morrison.
The island's peacemaker and self-imposed alpha male Jon Clark tells Omar to ask Jess how good a kisser she is, before advising: "If she says anything below a five then don't kiss her because she don't want to kiss you."
Luis interjects: "She [Jess] is one of the flirtiest characters in here, she's going to love the attention that you're going to give her... you just crack on with her."
Meanwhile, Jess is confiding in Hannah Elizabeth and admits bluntly that she wants to "try and crack on with Luis".
Hannah suggests that maybe she just needs to slip into his bed.
"Do you think he'll let me in his bed?" she asks, and then adds: "He's got no choice babe, once I'm in,...

Rachel Christie is the latest contestant to be eliminated from Love Island when none of the boys chose to couple up with her on last night's show (June 16).
The 26-year-old former athlete and single mum speaks to Digital Spy about which couple she thinks is best suited and should win, and whether or not newbie Naomi Ball broke the girl code when she picked Josh Ritchie.
Were you disappointed to leave?
I was quite excited to leave! I knew I was going to be leaving so I just wanted it to happen, to get it over and done with. The night before - I was even taking out my stuff to pack - I just knew I was going because I didn't have any connection with anyone in there, and no one had a connection with me.
I didn't really mingle as much as I should have, and I kept...

Love Island's latest arrival Chris Baxter enters the villa just as the male contestants are preparing to couple up on tonight's show (June 16).
With the girls lining up to hear their fates, a mystery text message hails Chris's unexpected entrance.
The islanders are shocked by the latest twist, with Luis Morrison declaring: "It was like a bomb hit the villa. It's like shock, after shock, after shock." Jordan Ring agrees that they "weren't expecting that".
Ahead of his arrival, Chris B warns his male rivals: "I'm on my way to the villa now to show the girls a new kind of guy. I'm not like the other guys.
"People look up to me and they like my style. They like the way I go about life. A typical night out for me is the best place, with the best drinks, with the best girls.

Lol, indeed.
"Lol" -- Miley Cyrus's long-delayed coming-of-age comedy -- was released into a scant 105 theaters last weekend and earned just $46,500, according to Len Klady of Movie City News. That works out to roughly $440 per theater, or the price of an iPad 2 -- before taxes.
Lionsgate, the studio that released "Lol," did not report official box office numbers for the film.
Cyrus made the PG-13-rated "Lol" back in 2010. The film is based on a popular French film of the same name, and includes frank sexual discussions between Cyrus and her onscreen mother, played by Demi Moore.
"I really thought this movie could be universal," Lisa Azuelos, the director of both the American and French versions of "Lol," told Ben Fritz and Amy Kaufman of the Los Angeles Times. "Usually teen movies are tender or scary or have vampires in them, but they’re never realistic. This story isn...
