"Bonnie and Clyde" ambushed Emmy voters on Friday night to discuss the ambitious miniseries that aired last December simultaneously on Lifetime, History and A&E. It's a good year for the production to compete, considering the previously combined categories for minis and movies were just separated, thus creating room for more contenders. "Bonnie and Clyde" got an early head start in the industry-awards derby by nabbing four guild nominations (sound, costumes and art direction) in January. Gold Derby not only recorded the event (listen to the audio podcast below), but I moderated the chat with director Bruce Beresford, stars Emile Hirsch and Lane Garrison, writers Joe Batteer and John Rice, plus Marilyn Vance (costumes), Derek Hill (art direction), Francis Kenny (cinematography) and John Debney (music). -Break- The gang reveals the meticulous work and research that went into recreating the outlaws' America of the 1930s (many scenes were shot...

In December, A&E Networks is going to be taking on not just a classic pair of criminals but two major icons of cinema when its take on Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker is broadcast over two nights simultaneously on Lifetime, A&E and History. "Bonnie & Clyde" stars Holliday Grainger ("The Borgias") and Emile Hirsch ("Into the Wild") as the infamous couple, and the four-hour scripted miniseries will air in two parts on December 8th and 9th. The idea that a series can serve the brands of all three networks at once is an odd one, but it is a tale of romance featuring historical figures also well known from the world of film, when they were played by Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty in Arthur Penn's 1967 film. Bruce Beresford ("Tender Mercies," "Driving Miss Daisy") is directing from a script by John Rice and Joe Batteer. Check out the...

Lifetime was at it again on June 29, premiering their latest based-on-real-life movie with the tragic story of the troubled star, Anna Nicole Smith. The source material was high drama to begin with — so did the TV flick live up to the real story?
Say what you want about Lifetime, but they found their groove and they’re sticking to it. Anna Nicole, which premiered on June 29, is just the most recent installment of the camp-y, overly dramatic made-for-tv movies that Lifetime does so well. We at HollywoodLife.com called Lifetime’s story of Anna Nicole Smith “crazy, wild fun” and a “roller coaster ride of drugs, alcohol, and tragedy,” but did the rest of the critics like it as much as we did?

Lifetime has released its first trailer for "The Anna Nicole Story," the network's original movie about Anna Nicole Smith directed by Mary Harron, of "American Psycho" and "The Notorious Bettie Page." Agnes Bruckner ("Blue Car") stars as the voluptuous model and actress, and while she can't really replicate Smith's physicality, what makes the video below worth a watch is the way it really does seem to represent a Lifetime sensibility crossed with Harron's. Anna Nicole Smith biopic is coming! I’m sure you’re going to love the news – Mary Harron, lady responsible for that American Psycho pic, is all set to direct The Anna Nicole Smith Story! And, in case you’re still not familiar with the latest updates, I will right here inform you that one pretty face is already set to star as the lead – Agnes Bruckner. Already sounds promising, don’t you think?
Written by John Rice and Joe Batteer, the movie is based on the true life story of Vicky Lynn Hogan, a pretty but plain girl growing up in a small Texas town who transforms herself into Anna Nicole Smith, became a Playboy centerfold and Guess model before passing away in 2007.
Lifetime Studio stands behind the project, and as I mentioned above – they definitely look serious about the whole thing.
Especially now when Harron has signed on to direct it!

The Playlist perhaps puts it best in the opening line of their own post regarding this news: “How the mighty have fallen…” Remember how Mary Harron directed American Psycho? Do you think she does? After her work there, Harron could have done just about anything she wanted – which made it all the more confounding when she began her slow descent into half-cocked features that barely even left a mark (The Notorious Bettie Page, The Moth Diaries) and one-shot directing gigs on various television series. What next? Obviously a Lifetime movie about Anna Nicole Smith, creatively titled The Anna Nicole Story. Pardon? Deadline Hollywood reports that Harron will helm the television movie from a screenplay by John Rice and Joe Batteer, a biopic that is said to trace the transformation of Smith, from small town girl Vickie Lynn Hogan to Hollywood bombshell, all the way to the tragic end.
