Prince Harry has outlined the impact the British tabloid press has had on his life in his first day giving evidence in London’s High Court as part of his legal case against Mirror Group Newspapers.
Making history as the first senior royal to testify in the witness box in 130 years, the Duke of Sussex has been cross-examined by Andrew Green, the barrister of the publishing group, which the royal is suing for damages, claiming journalists at its titles, which includes the The Daily Mirror, Sunday Mirror and Sunday People, were linked to methods including phone-hacking, gaining information by deception and use of private investigators for unlawful activities. The trial is focusing on 33 stories that were published between 1995 and 2011.
In his witness statement, Prince Harry said that articles he believed originated from hacking were hugely damaging to his relationships.

As the yacht drew into Port de Cannes and the camera shutters went into overdrive, it seemed from a distance that five disparate versions of Audrey Hepburn were making the grandest of entrances. Sporting the sunglasses and headscarves of 1950s starlets – variously paired with leopard-print chiffon, rainbow crop-tops and sports-branded underwear – this was a ragtag bunch of ingenues. There was an elegant one, a redheaded one, a childlike one, one who looked a bit angry about something, and one seemingly fresh from a set of mixed doubles.
Waving to the hordes of screaming fans on the docks, the Spice Girls swept ashore at the 1997 Cannes Film Festival ready to strut, pose, backflip and karate-kick their way right through the silver screen. A global phenomenon, they had arrived at the celebrated movie conference to promote their debut cinematic endeavour, Spice World: The Movie, released 25 years ago this week, and even somewhere...

Living Wild (working title), produced by Sky-owned Blast! Films, promises to take viewers on an intimate journey into the lives of a cast of wild animals, through the eyes of the 600-strong team of rangers and others who oversee them.
Each of the eight episodes charts the stories of various animals at the 90,000-acre Ol Pejeta, including male lions fighting to the death, and vets performing emergency surgery on an injured elephant.

Working Birthday is looking for performers to deliver a moved reading and selection of songs from new musical “More More More”, based on the rise and fall of TV comedian Michael Barrymore. The narrative covers his raucous public coming out, mutually abusive marriage, shifting sexuality and decades-long battle with addiction. A cross between “Jersey Boys” and “Anna Nicole”, this musical tells the true story of Barrymore’s meteoric rise to superstardom, fall into addiction, and accusations of murder. The sound is a mix of classic 80s/90s pop songs and original numbers. The company has a Litmus Fest residency at the Pleasance Theatre, at the end of which are two public performances (find out more here). The performances are ticketed and industry invitations will be sent. All actors must be able to sing and perform multiple roles. It's 20 years since the Spice Girls headed to the big screen for their solo movie. And we've taken a look back...
I don’t think Spice World: The Movie is as good as Inception.
This winter marks the 20th birthday of a film that many had sneered at before its release, and many continue to sneer at now. Boasting a hard-won 3.4/10 score on IMDb, Spice World: The Movie pops up from time to time in lists slamming films involving pop stars, or, if it’s lucky, it appears on the ‘guilty pleasure’ carousel. For added fun, the late Roger Ebert had it as one of the films that he most hated. Yikes.
I don’t believe in guilty pleasures, personally, and have written about that before. Nor do I agree with Roger. For I do enjoy Spice World: The Movie for what it is: a daft, breezy,...

This vehicle for Italian comedy star Checco Zalone about a government official sent to the Arctic never quite convinces
This has been a homegrown box office smash in Italy; to like it, maybe you need to be a fan of its writer and leading man: Italian TV comedy star Checco Zalone – a performer somewhere between Sacha Baron Cohen and Michael Barrymore. Checco plays a guy who has a posto fisso or fixed job: a much-coveted and outrageously cushy government post with zero work required. A new official, tasked with ending such sinecures, tries to persuade Checco to take voluntary redundancy. When he refuses, she sends him to ever more unpleasant postings, including an Italian expedition to the Arctic, where he falls in love with Valeria (Eleonora Giovanardi), a beautiful scientist of liberal views who introduces him to the hilarious world of politically correct righteousness in her adopted homeland of Norway,...

Michael Barrymore is suing the police over his 2007 arrest. The former 'Barrymore' host is seeking damages claiming his career was destroyed by speculation about his involvement in the death of 31-year-old Stuart Lubbock in March 2001, after the father-of-two was found dead in the swimming pool of Michael's Essex home during a party. The 63-year-old TV personality was not originally arrested in connection with the case - which has never been solved - although was taken in by police following a review in 2007, later being released without charge. After Stuart's death, ITV failed to renew his contract and he largely disappeared...

Michael Barrymore has said that he feels "some responsibility " after the death of Stuart Lubbock in March 2001.
Lubbock was found dead in Barrymore's swimming pool after attending a party at the entertainer's house in Roydon, Essex.
"I just froze, that was my very first thought," Barrymore told Jeremy Kyle: Celebrity Specials yesterday (June 9) of seeing Lubbock's body in his swimming pool.
"I ran back into the house to get help, and then the two boys started giving CPR, and then the ambulance was called for and that in turn calls the police, and I was stood… just in complete shock.
"The first thing I did wasn't run away, the first thing I did was run to get help."
He continued: "I'm in the middle of a case right now which we've been working on for three years for wrongful arrest against the Essex Police."
Asked about his 'trial by media' after the incident,...

The big-screen version of Hornby's black comedy about suicidal strangers who bond on the roof of a tower block lacks edge
This adaptation of Nick Hornby's novel has an agreeably morbid comic premise: four strangers meet on top of a tower block, all intending to jump to their deaths. Their plans scuppered, they reschedule – giving them enough time for them to improbably bond and to help each other rediscover the joys of life. Pascal Chaumeil, who made French romcom Heartbreaker, directs unfussily, and gives the leads space to do their individual things, for better or worse. Aaron Paul, from Breaking Bad and Need For Speed, is woefully inert, while Toni Collette is more gawkily mannered than ever. As a disgraced talkshow host, Pierce Brosnan glides through insouciantly as if wearing his comfiest slippers, but expands his range with a how's-yer-father demeanour and curious undertones of Michael Barrymore. Imogen Poots,...

Given the vast amount of manufactured, Simon Cowell creations that now exist in the world, it was inevitable that one of these inspirational tales would be eventually be brought to the big screen, and it seemed somewhat apt for the very first to be that of Paul Potts – the winner of the first Britain’s Got Talent. One Chance, directed by David Frankel is a film that feels as commercially manufactured as the shows of which it’s depicting, yet that is by no means a bad thing – because more often than not, that guarantees to be a sure-fire hit.

Jodie Marsh has opened up to Digital Spy about the "horrendous" bullying she has received from fellow celebrities, the press and the public throughout her career.
The model-turned-bodybuilder, who is fronting new anti-bullying TV series Jodie Marsh: Bullied, said that famous faces who make abusive comments just to "cause a stir" are setting "bad examples" to fans.
"So many celebrities set bad examples. They need editing before they speak," Marsh said. "Someone needs to stop them.

Fallen British entertainer Michael Barrymore has been fined more than $1,200 (£750) for possessing cocaine.
The funnyman, who has battled drink and drug demons in the past, was held by cops last month when they found the drug in his pocket after he crashed his car in west London.
Barrymore attended a court hearing on Wednesday and pleaded guilty to possession of a Class A drug. A charge of being drunk and disorderly was dropped, and he was fined $1,248 (£780).
Barrymore was one of the highest paid TV stars in the U.K. during his heyday in the 1980s and '90s, but his popularity plummeted and never recovered after a man was found dead in a swimming pool at the entertainer's luxury home during a party in 2001.

The original blockbuster generation, not you scamps but those twice your age, are gearing up for Jj Abrams‘ old school sci-fi adventure and Steven Spielberg collaboration, Super 8, ahead of its release in the States today. The Sun newspaper reports today that troubled comedian Michael Barrymore has cancelled plans to re-launch his career just days after being rushed to hospital when it was feared he was suicidal.
Yesterday, Dougie Chapman – who booked Barrymore to appear at Blackpool’s famous North Pier – said that booking the comic was, “always a gamble.”
Barrymore will apparently be replaced in the billing by The Chuckle Brothers.
Chapman told the paper, “I had every faith the public would take him back to their hearts…
“I know he was all geared up for the shows and was preparing new material.
“But he has cancelled all work for the summer.”
Barrymore’s career nosedived after a guest at a party in his home was found dead in Barrymore’s swimming pool.
Michael was cleared of any wrong doing in the death of Stuart Lubbock, but the incident has dogged both his personal and professional life ever since.

Oh Eurovision, why must you only be once a year? If you’re not that familiar with it, then in a nutshell it’s an excuse for gay men to have house parties and laugh at bad European music.
Approximately 120 million people tuned in to see Norway host the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest, where this year Germany took the title.
Germany doesn’t usually do very well in the scoring, but this year they blatantly cheated by taking it seriously. They put a quirky singer named Lena up for the title and she half-spoke, half-sang a love song in a strange accent à la Bjork/Lily Allen.
Also weighing in Germany's favor, they’ve been supporting the European economy, whereas the UK closed their eyes and put their collective fingers in their ears – and came last as a result. It didn’t help that we were represented with a song by Pete Waterman,...
