Was best known for his performance as Sir Percy Blakeney in The Return of the Scarlet Pimpernel (1937), which he followed up with another hit in the comedy mystery This Man Is News (1938). His later career was marred by an illness he contracted during World War II. His second wife was the actress Diana Churchill.
