Sam started his career with the BBC in July 1941 at the age of 14 as an Office Boy. After working is way up becoming a Clerk, he applied internally to be trained as a Technician; as a Camera Man then to a Lighting Camera Man and finally to a Lighting Director. Before his sudden death in 1988, he excitedly became a grandfather to Scarlett Georgina, and ten years after his death came twins Jasmine and Natasha who delight in discovering more about their grandfather.
Sam suffered from Parkinson's disease, which contributed to his retirement in 1986.
He, his wife, and daughter owned a Jack Russel named Jane, after the actress Jane Russel.
