A few years ago, Eric Wareheim took a photo of his then-girlfriend's naked ass and sent it to an ice sculptor. Wareheim likes to throw raucous house parties "based on different parts of anatomy," he says. "I did one called Black Cock [black light and penis-themed]. Another one was Laser Boobs." The sculptor took Wareheim's photo and used it to carve an enormous ice butt, which became the centerpiece of an ass-focused party called Snow Booty. The sculpture had a canal carved into it that served as a conduit for booze, with its lower opening at the butt hole.

This may be the most unpredictable Emmy race in years, particularly on the drama side. “Stranger Things” and “Veep” lead the Emmy odds according to the prognosticators at Gold Derby, but don’t count out shows like “The Handmaid’s Tale,” “Black-ish” and “Atlanta.” At least, that’s the takeaway from a handful of writers, producers and directors who agreed to anonymously share their Emmy ballots with IndieWire.
Not that this year’s picks were easy to make. “I watch a lot of TV,” said one writer. “And yet there is not a single category where I have seen every nominee. Seems impossible to judge — and crazy to think a winner is actually the best, rather than just the best of what most people have seen.”
That’s the high-class problem of Peak TV, and why outlets like HBO and Netflix spend handsomely on For Your Consideration campaigns. That’s...

Alan Yang is riding a high after “Master of None,” the comedy he co-created with Aziz Ansari, was nominated for multiple Emmys again. But he has another reason to celebrate. Last week, audiences got to freak out over the music video he directed for Jay-z’s “Moonlight,” which features the sitcom “Friends” reimagined with an all-black cast.
Yang began directing with “Parks and Recreation,” where he first met Ansari. He also directed episodes for “The Good Place” and “Master of None” before Roc Nation contacted him to send a few pitches for “Moonlight,” his first ever music video.
“When Roc Nation came to me, they gave very loose parameters,” said Yang. “They said, ‘Maybe it could be funny, maybe it could be something comedy-based — but really come up with what you want to come up with.’ I think that’s really freeing. Of the ideas I pitched them, ‘Friends’ was my favorite idea.

Lena Waithe wrote her Emmy-nominated episode of “Master of None” while shooting Steven Spielberg’s upcoming film “Ready Player One.”
Maybe.
“I wrote it in London,” Waithe said in an interview with IndieWire. “My schedule was a little tight in Season 2. I was filming a movie in London.”
“Was that movie ‘Ready Player One’?” IndieWire said.
“Possibly, yes,” Waithe said, laughing. “You possibly could [say that].”
“Thanksgiving,” the time-jumping eighth episode of “Master of None” Season 2, tracks Denise’s (Waithe) relationship with her mother over multiple years. Each part takes place during a different Thanksgiving, as Denise discovers her sexuality and slowly reveals it to her mom (Angela Basset), aunt, and grandmother.

“Master of None” has been a boon for showcasing diversity with its inclusive casting and storylines that take a look at people who don’t always get screen time. From its Asian-American leading man Aziz Ansari and a slew of supporting cast who are people of color (and one who is gay) to the unique narratives that shift the spotlight to underserved groups, the Netflix series is also a standout for diversity behind the camera. It’s currently only one of a handful of TV series that can boast Asian-American creators.
Alan Yang, who created the series alongside Ansari, alluded to the importance of representation behind the scenes in his Emmy acceptance speech in 2016.

With several tomes’ worth of backstory, enough screen time to fill up two and a half straight days of TV watching and a list of characters the size of Wun Wun (Rip, big fella), “Game of Thrones” might be the perfect TV show for the podcast era. Any of style of show works well in this universe: review show, obsessive deep dive, cultural criticism.
Some hosts can recite passages from “A Dance with Dragons” like scripture, while others are book agnostic. But the thing that ties them all together is this gargantuan television show that demands parsing out in other forums.

While dramatic television has seen a wave of directorial ingenuity over the last 17 years (see our list of the best-directed dramas for proof), 21st century TV will probably be remembered more for the growth of vision in the comedy genre. What was once a format dominated by multi-cam sitcoms with live studio audiences has become the most auteur-driven genre on television, and the results have been some of the most creative and personal series the small screen has ever aired.

The comedian talks to Screen about his most personal and challenging project to date.
Starting out in stand-up comedy in 2001, while he was a student at New York University, Aziz Ansari has built an increasingly high-profile career that includes seven seasons playing Tom Haverford on hit NBC sitcom Parks And Recreation. It was while working on that show that Ansari met writer Alan Yang, and the idea of his most recent project, Netflix comedy Master Of None, was born.
“Alan and I were really close friends during the whole run of Parks And Rec,” says Ansari. “We would always lightly talk about doing our own series and shooting it in New York, and doing something that was only eight or 10 episodes as opposed to the 22-episode form of Parks.”
As Parks And Recreation began winding down (the show came to an end in 2015), the duo became more serious about the prospect of Master Of None. Ansari and Yang...

One fascinating aspect of today’s media landscape is that many creators and executive producers enjoy using Twitter to engage with their audiences, share behind-the-scenes information about their shows, chat about politics, and otherwise communicate about what matters to them. So, each week, we’ll compile some of our favorite exchanges representing the wide variety of discourse seen on social media.
Last Week’S Tweets: ‘SNL’ Parties So Hard They Break Tables
This week: A “BoJack Horseman” character seemingly comes to life, the “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” writers room gets an upgrade (…maybe), and Lin-Manuel Miranda gets spoiled for “Veep.”

At the end of Netflix’s first season of Master of None, Aziz Ansari’s Dev heads to Italy to work on his pasta-making skills after a break-up. Season 2 picks back up with a new love interest as Dev meets the dashing Francesca, played by Italian actress (and Amal Clooney look-alike!) Alessandra Mastronardi.

Each episode of Aziz Ansari’s Netflix comedy Master of None is kind of like a blind date: You’re never exactly sure what you’re going to end up with.
That’s still true in the long-awaited Season 2, which debuts next Friday, May 12 after a lengthy year-and-a-half layoff. Ansari — the likable Parks and Rec goofball who writes and directs here, as well as starring — seems to enjoy defying expectations, crafting each episode of his cosmopolitan rom-com as a self-contained vignette that may or may not connect to the episodes around it. Part of what makes “Master of None” a delightful, refreshing viewing experience is how in 10 episodes, co-creators Aziz Ansari and Alan Yang continue to find new ways to surprise the audience. Whether it’s a bluntly funny song choice, the casually incorporated use of black-and-white footage, a telling change in perspective, several telling changes in perspective, or an unexpected arc in the story itself, the Netflix original series feels informally formal. It’s gorgeous, deep, and with style to spare, but the narrative flows without force, moving from topic to topic with the ease of young lovers lost in a date they never want to end.
So why spoil it?
I won’t, but suffice to say, Season 2 is as carefully constructed as it is appears to be carefree. Ansari — who wrote or co-wrote every episode and directed two-and-a-half hours of the 10 episode second season — has infused more of himself into his follow-up season,...

This is starting to be down right Shakespearean.
Molly roamed the palace doing her best impression of Ophelia on Tyrant Season 3 Episode 4, while Leila revealed that Jamal wasn't Ahmed's real father, but rather his uncle.
Sammy went looking for love in all the wrong places, and Barry was too busy planning revenge to deal with his family.

And as often happens in Shakespeare, vengeance doesn't lead to anything good. Mainly, it ends with everybody dying. And the Al Fayeed clan is already half gone. I wasn't too worried about Molly even before I saw the previews – the deaths have to slow down or there won't be any characters left.
Jennifer Finnigan did an amazing job of portraying a mother's grief. Where a great performance can sometimes be credited equally to the writing team, or the director, this was all her. The most powerful moments weren't because of her lines,...

New characters, new democracy, same old Abuddin.
Jamal's recovery might have been the final shocker of Tyrant Season 3 Episode 1, but it was far from the only one.
Prisoner exchanges, faked suicides, and resignation announcements all shook up the political minefield that is Abbudin. Who will end up in power is anybody's guess.

The season premiere introduced us to a few new characters, which only makes sense when you think about how many died in Tyrant Season 2. In the fight for Abuddin, everybody is power hungry, so Barry better watch his back. Aziz (the previously unseen butler) has already declared an alliance with Leila in the most disturbing way.
If he's willing to have Nusrat, another member of the royal first family, killed to help his "madame," who knows what else he's willing to do?
What was especially tragic to me about Nusrat's death is that...

Sitting in an overflow room at the Paley Center for Media, a thought struck me: “What if Shoukath Ansari wins an Emmy for ‘Master of None’?”
The thought wasn’t entirely baseless — Shoukath, the father of Aziz Ansari, certainly warrants the praise for his hysterical, honest and empathetic turn — nor was it unprompted. Netflix was holding its official For Your Consideration event for “Master of None,” and the event attracted so many people that a substantial chunk of us couldn’t even fit in the main theatre. We had to move to a backroom with a television displaying first the episode being screened and then a conversation between creators Aziz Ansari and Alan Yang, producer Michael Schur and cast members Lena Waithe and Kelvin Yu.
Clearly, there’s a fervor surrounding this show — and a devout fan base for the senior Ansari family member, as well. His debut in the...

For Parks and Recreation showrunner Mike Schur, Thursday’s Emmy nominations were as relaxed as a day at the spa.
After all, he’s been through more nerve-wracking situations — crafting the series finale for his beloved NBC comedy, for example.
“People in America have a real thing about finales,” Schur tells TVLine. “Everyone’s like, ‘What’s going to happen in the finale? Is the finale going to be good or bad?’ And there’s this feeling that if the finale’s bad, then the entire amount of time that you devoted to watching a show over seven years is totally ruined.

If you're like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don't worry; we've got you covered. Here's the best of what happened last night on late night.
Conan O'Brien was back with another round of Clueless Gamer -- but wait! It was the first-ever team multi-player edition of Clueless Gamer. "That's history, kids." Team Coco took on Team Silicon Valley, featuring Thomas Middleditch, Tj Miller, & Zach Woods of the HBO show "Silicon Valley," and they played "Halo 5: Guardians." Prepare for 9 minutes of hilarity. "I don't see anybody! I'm like my father at night looking for Fig Newtons. I'm just wandering around." Poor Conan.
This will make you Lol too. Aziz Ansari was on "The Tonight Show" to promote his book, "Modern Romance: An Investigation," and he and Jimmy Fallon chatted about embarrassing first text messages between guys and girls.

"Bones" Season 9 is back on Mondays with episode 16, the "The Source in the Sludge." The show wastes no time in showing its stuff, bringing in CIA Agent Danny Beck (Freddie Prinze Jr.), terrorism and chopping up eyeballs.

Following his standup about dating in a texting world, Parks and Recreation star Aziz Ansari has received a $3.5 million deal to pen a book about relationships! The book, according to The Hollywood Reporter, will be published in September 2015, and "will provide an investigation into what Ansari argues is an entirely new era for singles, in which the basic issues facing a single person -- whom we meet, how we meet them, and what happens next -- have been radically altered by new technologies."

President Barack Obama and his family watch "Parks and Recreation" together as a family.
The president talked to TV Guide about his TV favorites -- "Homeland," "The Wire" -- and revealed that he and Michelle watch NBC's "Parks and Recreation" with daughters Malia and Sasha.
"When our family gets together to watch TV, we usually watch shows like 'Modern Family' and 'Parks and Recreation' because they give us a good laugh," Obama said.
Did Malia get the president into the show about local government hero Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler)? In March 2012, series star Aziz Ansari attended a fundraiser event in New York City and Obama informed him that he has a fan in the White House.
"Aziz Ansari ... now this is big because Malia is a big 'Parks and Recreation' fan," the president said at the fundraiser. "So having Aziz here is like the only thing she thinks is worth me doing.

The ballots are open in the season finale and it’s up to Pawnee to decide who their new councilman is; the patriotic Leslie Knope or endearingly dumb Bobby Newport (guest star Paul Rudd). Meanwhile Ben gets a new job offer, Mouse Rat perform and Ron dispenses wisdom and advice all over the place in a very satisfying and fitting end to a consistently well written fourth season.
Show-runner Michael Schur (who I still only see as Mose Schrute) writes and directs tonight’s episode which had some genuinely touching moments without compromising the comedic flow of the show, or without feeling too forced, much like Community the past few weeks, which hides behinds longing glances and cute music.

President Obama doesn't want to mess up "Homeland" Season 2. When Showtime star Damian Lewis attended the White House State Dinner honoring Prime Minister David Cameron on March 14, he said Obama asked him about the hit drama series. Spoiler-phobes needn't worry: Lewis told TV Guide that Obama wasn't after specific details.
"I did sort of joke with him that the creators of the show had asked him to give us a heads up on any foreign policy moves so that we could just stay current with Season 2," Lewis told TV Guide. "And he looked me straight in the eye and said, 'I'll be sure to do that.' Didn't bat an eyelid. I found he had a great sense of humor."
Obama's love for "Homeland" is no secret. He's said he is a fan of the series starring Lewis and Claire Danes, and even ordered DVDs from Showtime. Some of Obama's...

She’ll seduce you with her eyes and enchant you with her smile but don’t let that fool you because Suren is a deadly vampire on Syfy’s Being Human and is responsible for a bloody massacre 80 years ago. Dichen Lachman (Dollhouse) plays Suren and has been a recent mainstay of science fiction television and playing a complex vampire fulfills one of her most coveted roles as an actor. I recently spoke with Lachman on a conference call with other journalists to talk about her character and experience of joining the Being Human cast.
Lachman describes Suren as “incredibly complex,” and “very damaged and reckless in many ways.” That spells out trouble for Aidan (Sam Witwer), a vampire who is doing his best to kick the vampire lifestyle, who has his own bloody trail of murder that’s followed him to the present day. He makes a deal with Mother,...

When people are creating fake ice-cream flavors in your honor and using your likeness to sell pork products, it's safe to say that you've got some fans.
So it goes with Ron Swanson, who, as played by Nick Offerman, has achieved cult-hero status on "Parks and Recreation." Despite fans' embrace of Ron's mustache, love of meat and general manliness, though, co-creator Mike Schur says he's never felt pressure from NBC to make the show more Ron-centric.
"With Ron or any other character, they've never once said to me, 'Go more in that direction. Do more of this and less of that,'" Schur tells Zap2it. "... They love Ron like we do, and they love [all the characters on 'Parks and Rec']. ... In the early going, maybe Tom [Aziz Ansari] was breaking out, because Aziz is such a spark plug and has so much charisma, but they never said to chase that, to make it the Aziz show. Now...

Jesse Eisenberg's acting credits include a little bit of everything, from "Adventureland" to "Zombieland" to that little film you may have heard of called "The Social Network" (which earned him an Oscar nomination earlier this year).
"30 Minutes or Less" gets him back in touch with his comedy roots as Nick, an unfortunate pizza delivery boy who's forced to rob a bank with a bomb strapped to his chest. Talk about a bad day.
While his roles vary from hilarious to tragic, they all share one common thread: They have to strike Eisenberg as "authentic." We sat down with him to talk about bringing real-life stories to the big screen, the possibilities of a "Zombieland 2" movie, and... wait, what did someone just put on his bike?
There's been some controversy around this movie because it's based on a real event that ended with a guy getting killed. Is that...

2010 MTV Movie Awards host's movie roles include comedic performances in 'I Love You, Man' and 'Funny People.'

He's been a Human Giant, stolen scenes from folks like Seth Rogen and Adam Sandler, and waged a big battle with IMAX. Now, he's ready for prime time as host of the MTV Movie Awards. And if you don't already know the 411 on Aziz Ansari, well, you'd better keep reading.
When the 27-year-old funnyman landed the gig as host of the 2010 Movie Awards, his name started trending faster than a recently deceased Golden Girl. Everyone had questions about his background, and celeb buddies like Sarah Silverman, Kristen Bell and Diddy were happy to provide answers — even if we're pretty sure most of them were made up.
"One time, young Aziz got stuck under a TV," Diddy said of one of the formative moments in Aziz's youth.

"Parks and Recreation" star Aziz Ansari has been officially announced as the host of the 2010 MTV Movie Awards. Zap2it previously reported that he was finalizing a deal back in March.
Though best known for his "Parks and Rec" role and for his character Randy in 2009's "Funny People," Ansari actually got his start on MTV as part of the cast of "Human Giant." In a statement, MTV's general manager Stephen Friedman says, "Aziz is the perfect host for the 2010 MTV Movie Awards as he will bring his innovative comedy and distinctive style to the movie industry's most rebellious night on television."
Never one to miss an opportunity for a statement, Ansari released his own thoughts on the gig. "I'm so happy Ronnie from 'Jersey Shore' was unavailable and this exciting opportunity was able to come my way," he says.

Question: I recently watched the pilot of Nikki & Nora, and I can't believe it wasn't picked up for a full season. Is there any chance of it being picked up at a later date, possibly by a network that was not originally approached? Or is it lost forever?

Answer: I forwarded your question to Nikki & Nora creator Nancylee Myatt, and she confirmed that the pilot starring Liz Vassey (CSI) and Christina Cox (Blood Ties) as lesbian detectives in New Orleans is indeed dead. Warner Bros. Studios and Laura Zisken Productions (who produces all the Spiderman movies) produced/own the rights to the pilot,...

The hospital sitcom that made Zach Braff a household name (and enabled him to make hipster-friendly indie flick "Garden State") will debut its eighth season tomorrow night on NBC, er, ABC. It's the season that no one thought would happen after NBC pulled the plug and aired a half-assed series finale last year. Eight months and one network change later, they're back, and hitting the ground running with a two-episode premiere. The first gives audiences their first taste of the latest recurring addition to the Sacred Heart Hospital family--the ruthless Dr. Maddox played by Courteney Cox. The season will also bring a new face in comedian Aziz A ...
