Exclusive: Over two and a half years after Titans special effects coordinator Warren Appleby was killed while prepping a shoot for the Warner Bros superhero series, a Toronto court has finally handed down some justice.
Acme FX were fined $110,000 in Canadian dollars plus a “25% victim fine surcharge” on February 22 by Ontario Court of Justice. Equaling around $109,000 Usd, the relatively light financial punishment came after the Etobicoke-based company entered a guilty plea in provincial court under Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act for not ensuring “the machine, device, tool or equipment is in good condition.”
The final charge was the lesser of those original set against Acme FX, but the first court was withdrawn, according to court documents. Perhaps even more cruelly, industry vet Appleby was a partner in Acme FX.

When “It Chapter Two” director Andy Muschietti wanted to raise the blood quotient for grownup Bev in the sequel, Jessica Chastain was so enthusiastic that she insisted on making it “‘Carrie’ on steroids.” Thus, for the scene where Bev gets engulfed by blood in the high school bathroom stall, the late special effects coordinator Warren Appleby (who died last summer in a tragic car stunt shooting the “Titans” Season 2 premiere) had a record 5,000 gallons of fake blood trucked from Los Angeles to Toronto.
That’s twice as much as the fake blood used for Bev’s (Sophia Lillis) horrifying bathroom sink eruption in the original movie. And, going back further, a lot more than the 200-plus gallons of fake blood needed for the iconic bloody elevator shot in “The Shining.” Not surprisingly, though, the two-minute scene was a nightmare to shoot for “It Chapter Two” cinematographer Checco Varese, who wondered:...

When it comes to horror movies, there are few moments more iconic than this: Carrie White, standing up on the prom stage, wide-eyed and covered in blood.
Thirty-seven years later, it's the image movie fans associate most with the original Brian De Palma film, whether they've actually seen it or not. So as much as director Kimberly Peirce and her new Carrie, Chloe Moretz, want to chart their own course in the upcoming remake of the 1976 horror classic, they're also well-aware of the importance of getting moments like this just right.
That means finding their way back to the original source material (Stephen King's celebrated first novel) in order to update the chilling story for modern audiences, infusing it with new blood without losing any of its timeless impact.
In the 2013 version, Moretz stars in the role that Sissy Spacek first made famous, of a shy outcast...
