Erik Feig, head of production at Summit Entertainment, met with writer Duane Adler (Save the Last Dance) and pitched a loose idea about a high school for aspiring performers.

Feature actor Gael García Bernal (Y Tu Mamá También, Amores Perros, Babel) has been tapped for the streaming service’s comedy pilot Mozart In The Jungle, written by Roman Coppola, Jason Schwartzman and Alex Timbers. Based on the memoir by Blair Tindal, the project is all about sex, drugs and classical music and shows that what happens behind the curtains at the symphony can be just as captivating as what happens onstage. Mexico-born Garcia Bernal, repped by Wme, will play Gustavo, an enfant terrible who’s utterly devoted to his art as a conductor — but also to his image. Will Yun Lee (The Wolverine) is set to co-star opposite Shane Coffey in USA’s drama pilot The Novice, from Fox 21, Joe and Tony Gayton. It centers on Kyle (Coffey), a recent college graduate who is forced to move...

His latest work, The Inevitable Defeat Of Mister And Pete, made its world premiere at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, but left the festival without a distributor (nothing's been announced yet on that front); however, director George Tillman Jr. has been busy setting up a new project which Deadline reports will be based on an untitled pitch sale to Universal Pictures. Duane Adler will pen the script for a feature film that will center on a failed songwriter who returns home to Chicago, to lead a group of at-risk youth to their annual talent show. Adler's past writing credits should give you some idea of what to expect here: Save the Last Dance, Save the...

Here is an interesting little franchise. The Step Up films, as far this movie reviewer can tell (having not seen any of the previous three episodes) do not follow any overarching plot, continuous from one instalment to the next. Nay, each is a self-contained dance obsessed adventure involving a revolving door of characters, although IMDb indicates that a couple of performers make appearances from one film to the next. This may speak to ignorance, but it feels as if no one hypes, anticipates, goes to or afterwards discusses these films. Perhaps the safest claim is that the series’ most notable attribute is helping to put today’s unexpected poster boy for cool, Channing Tatum, on the map as he starred in the opener. Still, in the summer of 2012, here comes the fourth film,...

Great 3D dance moves, an attractive cast and the South Beach backdrop make Step Up Revolution a fun addition to the franchise Of all the movie genres embracing 3D technology, action, animation, horror, it’s dance that truly captures its razzle-dazzle potential. The veteran filmmaker Wim Wenders transforms 3D dance into film art via his recent documentary Pina. First-time feature director Scott Speer mixes a familiar, teen-friendly story of unexpected romance, a disapproving father, and friendship rivalry with a surprising shot of political activism and the sexy backdrop of Miami for the entertaining Step Up Revolution, the fourth film in the satisfying and steady Step Up franchise. Dance competition series like So You Think You Can Dance are as popular as ever but none of the TV dance shows compares to the super sized pop and 3D excitement of Step Up Revolution. "Dancing with the Stars" dancer Derek Hough will make his feature film debut in a Romeo and Juliet type story Cobu 3D. Actually, the story is more familiar than just "Romeo and Juliet:" it's the exact, Exact plotline of Step Up 3D. Hough and Asian popstar BoA star as "two dancers from different worlds whose Romeo & Juliet-like romance is threatened by the dangerous rivalry between their brothers' competing dance clubs in Gotham's underground scene."
Duane Adler wrote the screenplay and will direct: he also wrote Save the Last Dance and Step Up. Save the Last Dance producer Robert Cort will produce. Lionsgate will distrubute.
Hough's sister Julianne Hough (also on "Dancing with the Stars" and country music recording artist) has a film career that's revving up. She had a role in Burlesque and a lead role in the upcoming remake of Footloose.

Sure, “Dancing with the Stars” has provided valuable face time for actors, reality stars and even one politician’s daughter — but can the show launch actual movie careers?
It worked for “Burlesque”‘s Julianne Hough and now it’s about to work its magic on her brother.
Derek Hough, the quick-stepping, three-time-winning dance partner just signed a deal to star in “Cobu 3-D” with Asia’s top recording artist, BoA, Deadline reports.
Why pair Hough — an All-American dance machine — with a petite singer whose fan base is anchored mainly in Korea and Japan?
Maybe the plot for the film can give us a clue.
Penned by seasoned scribe Duane Adler (who wrote teen favorites “Save the Last Dance” and “Step Up”), ”Cobu 3-D” tells the story of dancers from two different worlds, whose Romeo and Juliet-like romance is threatened by the dangerous rivalry between their brothers’ competing dance clubs in Gotham’s underground scene.

To all those agents who secretly dream of directing... I can't think of a Hollywood journey like Tony Krantz's. The son of Beverly Hills novelist Judith Krantz, he went from head of primetime packaging at CAA (where he helped put together ER, The West Wing, Twin Peaks, Beverly Hills 90210) and then CEO of Imagine Television (where he exec produced Felicity and 24 among other shows with Jj Abrams, Peter Berg, Aaron Sorkin, and David Lynch) to directing 3 1/2 years ago. Since then, he's helmed 3 films. The first two, Sublime (a surreal horror flicks) and Otis (a horror comedy), were put out by Warner Bros Home Video under the Raw Feed genre label. Now he's wrapped directing his first theatrical which has just landed distribution with Anchor Bay after a competitive bidding situation. Titled The Big Bang, the stylish noir indie was produced by Richard Rionda's Hannibal Pictures and Krantz's own Flame Ventures...

"Hurricane Venus" music video from BoA has made its way out for fans' viewing pleasure. It sees the South Korean recording artist going through several costume changes and doing her best dance routine with several male extras.
A 3-D version of the video is rumored to have been made with the help from Pace HD, the cinematography team behind James Cameron-directed hit movie "Avatar". Coming out in a standard form, the video itself indeed has an array of special effects which are sure to give an eye-popping experience in 3-D.
BoA is going to list the song in an album of the same name "Hurricane Venus" which has been released in South Korea on August 5. This effort marks the tenth anniversary of her career debut and becomes her first Korean-language album since 2005 "Girls on Top".

Step Up 3D Directed by: Jon Chu Written by: Amy Andelson & Emily Meyer (screenplay), Duane Adler (characters) Starring: Rick Malambri, Adam G. Sevani, Sharni Vinson I’m still not certain the Step Up films take place in the real world. Dance is so important to the characters that inhabit this plane of reality that I barely recognize it. Is every move a metaphor? “Battling” surely seems a surrogate for a fistfight, while love is manifested with more delicate gymnastics. Context regardless, the seriousness with which they approach their art is unshakable. Conversely, as someone who finds their rhythmic jiving inherently silly — yes, I saw Step Up 3D ironically. My recommendation, however, is anything but. I honestly can’t imagine it disappointing anyone. If you’re a fan (in any capacity) of the previous two films, well, you’re in for a treat. Part three was shot in 3D (as opposed...

.Step Up 3D. is the third installment of the popular franchise. This time, the hip-hop fairy tale is back with an intriguing gimmick making the movie the first dance drama ever to be shot and released in digital 3D.
As expected, the filmmakers stepped up the film.s look and dance numbers. Those are two great qualities to make any .Step Up. fan curious about the third movie even though the story and the script are relegated backstage.
If Jennifer Beals. .Flashdance. character, Alex Owens, was just beginning her dance career today, she would have a hard time competing with the .Step Up. kids. Nowadays, the popping and locking dance routines are meant for dancers with strong stamina and equally powerful equilibrium.
