Bob's Burgers has its fair share of interesting characters and one of those is definitely Gayle, Linda's sister who we also know as Aunt Gayle.
Voiced to perfection by Megan Mullally, Gayle fits about every stereotype there is when it comes to having a goofy aunt. She's a cat lady, perpetually single, and does some of the most off-the-wall things without thinking. To say she's eccentric would be an understatement.
For the most part, Gayle is either looking for attention or wants someone to help her with something that is pretty basic. While I've talked about Gayle and her mental health before, that's not a topic we're diving into today.
Rather, we're focusing on whether "The Right Tough Stuff" does Gayle justice. To put it simply, is this episode a good Gayle tale or an epic Gayle fail?

Created by Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld, the show About Nothing was loved by everyone and it made the careers of Jerry Seinfeld who played himself, Julia Louis-Dreyfus who played Elaine Benes, and Jason Alexander who played the universally loved George. The series mostly followed four people hanging out and going on weird and absurdly comedic adventures. “My name is Percy Jackson. I am a demigod.” We all knew that Percy Jackson and the Olympians would be getting a season two based on its massive viewership numbers, but seeing the teaser out of D23 is just what the fans deserve.
In the footage, we see Percy Jackson (Walker Scobell) facing off against monsters and getting cued up for what will surely be his greatest challenges so far. Scobell, too, looks and sounds comfortable reprising the character made famous in Rick Riordan’s book series. This season is, appropriately, based on the second book in the series, The Sea of Monsters.

Steve Blackman’s adaptation of Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá’s superhero family comic book series completes its run on Netflix on August 8th, 2024 with the finale of ‘The Umbrella Academy’. At its premiere event at the Egyptian Theater on Hollywood Boulevard earlier in the week, audiences got to experience the first episode of the fourth and final season, just a taste of what’s to come for our gang of siblings-turned-superheroes. ‘The Umbrella Academy’ follows the misadventures of the Hargreeves siblings, all adopted by the mysterious Reginald Hargreeves, as they are pulled through time to stop the apocalypse in different timelines and eras. Season four begins back in the present, finally! But, it’s the wrong timeline, corrupted by an incomplete reset attempt by Reginald, and they’ve all lost their superpowers. The Hargreeves know they’re not in the right present day, but somehow, so do some civilians,...

The Umbrella Academy stems from a cult comic book series, transporting its oddball ensemble to the screen with colorful flair. Led by the eccentric billionaire “Monocle,” who adopted seven infants with super abilities, the Umbrella Academy follows the now-adult siblings as they try to stop doomsday devices. Each brings unique powers, from telekinesis to speaking with the dead and fighting with acrobatic action scenes alongside quirky gadgets.
We’re introduced to Viktor able to generate pure energy, nervous yet caring Luther with tremendous strength, and fiery Diego skilled in knife throwing. The ever-enthusiastic Klaus connects to spirits while logical Five zips through time and space. Allison alters reality with the whisper of “I heard a rumor” and Ben merges with a shadowy monster. Steeped in sibling rivalry, they reunite against mounting threats too bizarre even for this strange world. From murderous mannequins to alternate timelines, each mission spirals further into madness.

On “The Umbrella Academy,” it was always about the end of the world. From the very first episode of the Netflix based on the comic by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, the superpowered siblings at the center were tasked with saving the world from themselves — again, and again, and again.
So it was only fitting that the series finale — aptly titled “End of the Beginning” — would tackle this problem head on, forcing Viktor (Elliot Page), Luther (Tom Hopper), Diego (David Castañeda), Alison (Emmy Raver-Lampman), Klaus (Robert Sheehan), Ben (Justin H. Min), and Five (Aidan Gallagher) to reckon with their own role in all the catastrophes they’ve witnessed and how they can set it all right once and for all. They broke the timeline just by being born, and the only way to stop infinite timelines and world-ending debacles is to remove themselves from the equation.

This post contains detailed spoilers for the final season of "The Umbrella Academy."
"The Umbrella Academy" is over, and the Netflix sci-fi series managed to take down countless timelines and a whole family of superheroes with it. The show ended this week with a six-episode arc that messily, confusingly, and –- somehow –- satisfyingly closed the book on the story of the Hargreeves family once and for all. Along the way, unlikely pairings fell in love, long-suffering characters were redeemed, and Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally did a funky little dance.
But what does it all mean? Try to explain the emotional conclusion to "The Umbrella Academy" and you'll find yourself in need of a whiteboard to chart out the show's many alternate universe offshoots and vague scientific theories. As heartfelt as the end of the show is, it's not exactly logically airtight, and since season 4 has outpaced Gerard Way's comic books,...

As I sat down to watch the fourth and final season of The Umbrella Academy, I found myself wondering: where, when, and how did things leave off in the season 3 finale? If you're like me, watching that recap before the season begins was incredibly crucial, and the reminder got me hyped for what would be a fitting end to a show that dealt with multiple apocalypses, strange and wild characters, and a family unlike any other.
While sitting down to watch the final season, I was reminded that the Hargreeves clan ended season 3 on a rather interesting note. Daddy Hargreeves (Colm Feore), or some version of him anyway, attempted to obliterate all the Hargreeves children (and did technically kill one of them) after reneging on a plan he made with Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman). After seemingly betraying her family, Allison stepped in and made a decision that would shake the familiy to its core.

Not many series finales feel like series finales nowadays. The streaming era’s abundance of options compels TV shows to leave the door open on their way out, inviting some other network or streamer to decide their story isn’t quite done.
That is decidedly not the case for Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy. The season 4 finale of this superhero saga operates as a definitive conclusion for the show’s characters and their world. No longer bound to the incomplete comic source material penned by Gerard Way and illustrated by Gabriel Bá, showrunner Steve Blackman and his writers’ room conjure up an ultimate end for the Hargreeves family.
Here is how The Umbrella Academy series finale says goodbye to Luther (Tom Hopper), Diego (Castañeda), Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman), Klaus (Robert Sheehan), Five (Aidan Gallagher), Ben (Justin H. Min), Viktor (Elliot Page), and more.

For the Hargreeves siblings, the end of the world is getting a little old hat. After all, they’ve thwarted an impending apocalypse every season since “The Umbrella Academy” premiered on Netflix in 2019 (nevermind that they’ve also inadvertently caused all of them), so it makes sense that after sidestepping the kugelblitz at the end of Season 3, they’d be ready for a break.
That’s where we meet them at the beginning of Season 4, which picks up six years after we last saw the dysfunctional family stumble into a new reality where none of them had superpowers. For some, such as Viktor (Elliot Page) and Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman), getting to live life as regular humans was a relief. For others, who defined themselves by their superhuman abilities, “normal” life presented a unique challenge, and they struggled to adapt. But after six years, they’ve all settled into their new,...

Coming out of the boom of superhero movies and television, The Umbrella Academy proved Netflix could hit a different tone. Often irreverent and always emotional, the Gerard Way-penned adaptation thrived as a critique of the X-Men. Simultaneously, showrunner Steve Blackman ensured the same concerns of sex, drugs, and teenage angst carried over from the comics to the small screen. With Season 4 serving as its final season, The Umbrella Academy continues its antiques, but a rushed finale leaves us wanting a little more.

The premiere, "The Unbearable Tragedy of Getting What You Want," introduces us to the Hargreeves now that they've settled into their new realities: the reset timeline where they no longer have powers. But all of that might just change in The Umbrella Academy season 4! The premiere episode is a great reminder of why we love this Netflix Original so much.
Warning: Major spoilers for The Umbrella Academy season 4 episode 1 are below.
It's been six years since the events of the season 3 finale, and the season 4 premiere opens up by introducing us to two new characters who will be very important in this installment.

Before the Hargreeves siblings brave the apocalypse one last time, we gather them all in one place to discuss The Umbrella Academy Season 4. With eager cult members gathering in the streets, a brother on the loose and lost in love, and questions about their past still burning brightly, Elliot Page, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Aigan Gallagher, Ritu Arya, Justin H. Min, Robert Sheehan, Tom Hopper, and David Castañeda dig deep to share their thoughts and feelings about the end of an era.
During our talks with the cast of The Umbrella Academy, we explore the emotionally charged conclusion of Viktor’s confrontation with Sir Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore), the unbreakable bond between Allison and Klaus, blinking into any concert venue for an unforgettable evening, the art of physical acting, Diego and Luther’s big fight sequence, the best parts of being Klaus, Diego’s mid-life crisis, who’s the most devious prankster in the Umbrella Academy cast,...

For fans of The Umbrella Academy, Netflix's offbeat superhero show based on the comic book of the same name, we come bearing good news and bad news. The good news is that it's finally returning after over two years with a new season, but the only catch is that this marks the show's conclusion. The Umbrella Academy follows the Hargreeves family, adopted siblings with powers who, each season, must band together to save the world from the impending apocalypse and other threats.
With a strong cast, quirky storytelling, and an awesome soundtrack, it's no surprise The Umbrella Academy has been a staple for the streamer. Though the third season, which was released in June 2022, didn't live up to my expectations, I'm still excited about the fourth. I'm eager to see how the writers will tie up the storylines — especially after the timeline reset at the end of season 3 — and...

After five years and four seasons, The Umbrella Academy is coming to an end.
Stars Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Justin H. Min and Ritu Arya reunited at the show’s final season premiere in Los Angeles on Monday, where the group weighed in on the series’ soon-to-be-released ending.
“I think the fans are going to get the ending that the show deserves. The task that the writers had to figure out, how to tie all these storylines up and close this chapter for this family, was probably incredibly hard, I know it was incredibly hard,” Raver-Lampman told The Hollywood Reporter. “So I think it is an ending that we’re all proud of, and I think the fans will love.”

A quarter-century ago, frustrated by Hollywood’s paucity of good roles for middle-aged women, Bette Milder renounced the industry, declaring, “Movies are over for me.” Today, at 78, with a new comedy in theaters and a handful of other flicks burbling in development, she’s obviously had second thoughts. “When did I say that?” she asks. “I must have been in the dumps. I’m often in the dumps.”
Any artist might find themselves in the dumps, and Midler, an admitted chronic tsuris sufferer, may have spent periods of her six-decade-plus career feeling down, even momentarily out of fashion, but she inevitably locates one opportunity or another to propel herself up. Because Midler can do it all — sing, act, tell jokes and hoof pretty well, too, even imprisoned onstage in a mermaid costume — her career has been marked by a kind of Whac-a-Mole movement around the industry, flourishing in one genre...

On Aug. 1, the six-part mystery series A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder debuts on Netflix. As anticipated on Friday, Nicolas Cage starring Longlegs, pushing a $6.7 million weekend on 2,730 screens — for a cume of $58.6 million in week 3 — has surpassed Parasite’s $53.37 million to become the indie distributor’s highest grossing film ever.
Now in week 3, the Osgood Perkins pic is also the top grossing R-rated horror of 2024 and the highest grossing indie horror film of the last ten years, topping A24’s Talk To Me, Insidious Chapter 3 from Universal’s Focus, and A24’s Hereditary. It’s no. 5 at the domestic box office.
Also in wide release, Bleecker Street is estimating The Fabulous Four will gross just over $1 million in its opening weekend on 1,045 screens. Directed by Jocelyn Moorhouse, its stars Susan Sarandon, Megan Mullally and Sheryl Lee Ralph as a group of lifelong friends who travel to Key West to be bridesmaids in the surprise wedding of their best college girlfriend, played by Bette Midler.

Bette Midler. Susan Sarandon, Sheryl Lee Ralph and Megan Mullally are the fabulous four actresses cast as best friends in The Fabulous Four, the latest comedy entry in the recent string of gal pal comedies featuring older, big-name actresses and silly antics. I might call them “broad comedies” but then someone might slap me (insert rim shot). While some of those comedies have been a bit forced, leaning heavily on too-familiar jokes, The Fabulous Four is fun, a lighter and more relaxed version, and less fully-packed with far-fetched comic bits. This femme-centric comedy about aging, friendship and new beginnings is femme-helmed too, with Australian writer/director Jocelyn Moorhouse at the helm and scriptwriters Ann Marie Allison and Jenna Milly backing her up.

“The Fabulous Four,” Bette Midler’s ensemble wedding comedy costarring Susan Sarandon, Megan Mullally and Sheryl Lee Ralph, features more than just four funny acting performances from the powerhouse quartet. The late-in-life bridesmaids have a couple musical surprises up their sleeves, too.
Marilyn (Midler) is getting married and has invited her three lifelong girlfriends to celebrate with her in Key West. Her husband, who she stole from her so-called best friend Lou (Sarandon) back in the day, died only six months before the engagement, but Marilyn is ready for a second wind.
Ralph and Mullally join the wedding party for some silly, sexy antics, too — penis antennae and Kegal balls may be involved.
Musical theater vets Midler and Ralph sing a surprise duet of Jimmy Cliff’s “I Can See Clearly Now.” And Mullally joins Michael Bolton for a cameo to perform “One Life,” written by the Grammy Award winner himself.

Imax Live is out today with the Openings Ceremony of the Paris Olympics. Bleecker Street debuts star-studded The Fabulous Four, Sundance winner Didi opens in limited release and Kit Harrington is a werewolf dad in The Beast Within. Again this weekend, another massive wide release, Deadpool & Wolverine, dominates the box office. Tentpoles are good for the box office but the indie market is still waiting to ascertain if big movies can boost small ones.
Imax wins for most topical. In its ongoing experimentation with live events, the big screen exhibitor is at this very moment showing the Opening Ceremony of the Summer Olympic in Paris at 100 locations nationwide.
Presales had been a bit slow but that was expected – it’s a four-hour-plus chunk in the middle of the day, even earlier on the West Coast – but Deadline hears showings are actually at or approaching sellout in a number of markets...

The cast of “Percy Jackson” Season 2 is starting to grow.
During the show’s San Diego Comic-Con panel, author Rick Riordan announced that Daniel Diemer will play Tyson, Percy’s half-brother and a cyclops, in Season 2.

Tyson is an important new character in Riordan’s novel “Sea of Monsters,” which will be the basis of Season 2. Diemer previously starred in “Under the Bridge,” “The Midnight Club,” “The Man in the High Castle” and more. He also stands at 6’4”, making him a towering older half-brother to Percy.

An audience with Emmy winner Sheryl Lee Ralph, a fan favorite as no-nonsense teacher Barbara Howard on Abbott Elementary, makes for an exhilarating education.
She commands your attention from the off.
Truth is, for me, she always has.
In my youth, on a trip with a girlfriend to New York, we purchased tickets way up in the Imperial Theatre’s balcony to see a show called Dreamgirls. That was my first lesson in Broadway. That was my first lesson in Broadway theatre magic. That was my first lesson in witnessing the artistry of Sheryl Lee Ralph, who glided seamlessly across the Imperial’s stage as Deena Jones.
“I’m the dream that’ll give you more and more,” I remember her cooing into a mic.
She gratefully acknowledges that while Dreamgirls gave her a pathway to a hard-won stardom — “Oh, my god it was brilliant,” she declares — she and her...

Susan Sarandon and Bette Midler lead a group of old friends who reunite in a dispiriting and disappointing waste of older female actors
The Fabulous Four, a film aimed at the historically underserved older female demographic, provides us with a more recent quandary. It’s a comedy that provides four women over the age of 65 with more screen time than they have become accustomed to, part of the post-Book Club boom that serves to remind the industry of the great many actors who have been sidelined as they’ve done the most unforgivable thing a woman can do in Hollywood: grow old.
Its mere existence is therefore a good thing, backs to be patted and applause to be given, but that’s where the cheering starts and ends. Because, like Poms and 80 for Brady and the Book Club sequel and May’s Summer Camp, it’s easier to admire its...

In The Fabulous Four, movie legends Bette Midler, Susan Sarandon, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and Megan Mullally reunite for a wedding down in sunny Florida. Australian director Jocelyn Moorhouse brings these comedic titans together for a fun flick that mostly lets their chemistry do the heavy lifting.
The story sees lifelong pals Lou, Marilyn, Alice, and Kitty coming back together after years apart for Marilyn’s nuptials. Lou and Marilyn have a real rocky history after a love triangle way back when it ripped them apart. So getting Lou to show faces a real challenge that wily Alice and Kitty are determined to overcome. The ladies rope Lou down to the palm trees and white sand with a little fib about a prized cat contest.

Earlier this summer we had to endure the misbegotten Summer Camp which was yet another attempt by Diane Keaton, joined by Kathy Bates and Alfre Woodard, to mix comedy and later-in-life drama in an older female bonding flick. Keaton had great success in the first film that announced this subgenre, 2018’s Book Club, which smartly matched four veteran actresses including Jane Fonda that led to a more mixed-results sequel set in Italy. Fonda also found real success in the subgenre with the entertaining 80 For Brady with Sally Field, Rita Moreno and Lily Tomlin along for the ride. Thus it seemed natural that other beloved female stars of a certain age would also want to jump on board in this game attempt to reverse Hollywood’s youth obsession and provide a little something-something for aging boomers everywhere.

After another great summer blockbuster this past weekend, we get one of the most anticipated movies of the year, as well as the first from Marvel Studios since last December. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you probably know that Marvel and Disney’s “Deadpool and Wolverine” brings together the popular characters played by Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman — not for the first time, mind you. Everyone involved with this new Marvel movie, including director Shawn Levy, is probably hoping that everyone has forgotten about 2009’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” and thankfully, they probably have.
Despite the presence of Jackman’s Wolverine, this is very much the third film in the “X-Men” sub-franchise that began with 2016’s “Deadpool,” which kicked off a successful run of R-rated superhero movies not necessarily meant for children. That movie and the sequel for Reynolds...

A huge misfortune befalls “The Fabulous Four” right out of the gate: its resemblance to the delightful and far superior “80 For Brady,” the 2023 comedy in which four aging women reclaim their youth and friendship on a Super Bowl misadventure. “The Fabulous Four” is by no means a knock-off — both films had been written before cameras had rolled on either one — but their similarities make “The Fabulous Four” look worse by comparison, given how little of its humor and drama hold up to the slightest scrutiny.

Whether they travel in groups of three or four, accomplished women of a certain age and their wacky adventures are having a movie moment. The latest entry in this subgenre is a frothy outing that sometimes falls flat, but at least The Fabulous Four doesn’t oversell its theme of friendship or its aha moments of catharsis.
Whatever the feature’s shortcomings, its title is not false advertising; there’s nothing ho-hum about the central quartet of characters, longtime friends who gather when one of them decides, on very short notice, that she’s getting married. As with Book Club, though, the fabulosity is more about the actors — in this case, two true icons (Susan Sarandon and Bette Midler) and two supreme masters of quippery (Sheryl Lee Ralph and Megan Mullally). The opening credits are a valentine to all four.

Bleecker Street’s new comedy “The Fabulous Four” finds Bette Midler doing what she does best: broad comedy with a touch of poignancy peeking out from just beneath the surface.
It’s a quality that characterizes many of Midler’s most memorable performances in films like “The First Wives Club,” “Down and Out in Beverly Hills,” and “That Old Feeling,” and according to Midler, it’s been part of her approach since the beginning.
“When I worked live, starting from the time I was 19, I was very much aware of the melancholy underneath certain kinds of scenes,” Midler told IndieWire in a recent interview. “There’s a musical term for it: contrapuntal. ‘Miss M’ is loud and boisterous on the outside, but there’s an undercurrent of despair because it’s very hard to be a human being.”

During the event, Sarandon opened up about her views on love and relationships. Despite her age, Sarandon made it clear that she remains open to new romantic possibilities. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, she expressed her willingness to embrace love and adventure.
“I’m open to love,” she said. “On every level, absolutely. I wouldn’t say I’m looking for a guy to share my medicine cabinet, but I love an adventurer. I’d love to find anybody that’s still curious and passionate.”

Susan Sarandon, the Academy Award winning actress, does not think that President Joe Biden can win his bid for reelection against former president Donald Trump — and that the incumbent president should step down from his party’s ticket.
“Yes,” she said enthusiastically when asked Wednesday evening if the president should withdraw. “Obviously there are a lot of people within the party who feel the same way.”
“I don’t think the dust has settled on our choices” she told Variety on Thursday night at the New York premiere for “The Fabulous Four,” a summer comedy starring Sarandon alongside Sheryl Lee Ralph, Megan Mullally and Bette Midler.
“I think it’s obvious [why he should step down],” she continued. “Way before the age thing came into play, hundreds of thousands of uncommitted voters in swing states, because of the war in Gaza, put his possible election in jeopardy.”
