Fox’s Outmatched is serving up some American Pie: The freshman comedy, which stars Jason Biggs, will host a mini-reunion of the seminal movie when Alyson Hannigan and Eddie Kaye Thomas appear on the series, EW.com reports.
Outmatched features Biggs and Maggie Lawson as Mike and Kay, the parents of four children, three of whom are geniuses. Hannigan and Kaye Thomas will play the helicopter parents of another gifted child, whom Mike and Kay becomes friends with — until their kids decide Mike and Kay are a bad influence on the other couple. Definitely the more sober-sided of two new films involving cops and cop-killers, “Crown Vic” juggles slice-of-life observation and thriller elements as a grizzled Lapd veteran shepherds a newbie through his first patrol shift. Writer-director Joel Souza’s “Crown Vic” doesn’t always balance those elements ideally, but it’s still a respectable if non-revelatory cruise through a familiar terrain of mean streets and men in blue.
Transformed by a darkened crew cut and ’stache, with a crankypants working-stiff voice, Thomas Jane is almost unrecognizable as longtime peace officer Ray Mandel. He’s in an irritable mood even before meeting trainee Nick Holland, who’s just transferred from an off-street post in Oakland to commence his maiden tour in a squad car three years after police-academy graduation. Nick is from a family of cops, and seems to feel he’s got a lot to prove. Yet he’s taken aback by Ray’s cynical,...

"I'm telling you, man, it's a war out here. Going to be us against them." Screen Media Films has unveiled an official trailer for an indie thriller titled Crown Vic, which first premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year. Written & directed by Joel Souza, the title is a reference to the cop car that most police drive around America - known as a "Crown Vic" because it's a Ford Crown Victoria. This film tells the story of one memorable night in the life of Lapd officer Ray Mandel while hunting two cop killers on the loose. The two cops, one a rookie, must contend with a city about to boil over. Starring Thomas Jane and Luke Kleintank, with David Krumholtz, Bridget Moynahan, Gregg Bello, Scottie Thompson, and Josh Hopkins. Looks like a very intense, gritty film about how incredibly hard it is to work as cops in a big city.

Season 3 of True Detective was well received, and star Mahershala Ali scored an Emmy nomination for his role as Wayne Hays, a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas. But what are the chances of Season 4?
HBO president of programming Casey Bloys provided a (slight) update at the TCA press tour on Wednesday. “I think Nic [Pizzolatto] has ideas, but I don’t think he’s landed on anything that he feels passionately about,” he said.
This echoes previous comments from Bloys, who said in February it would handle a potential fourth season the same way as it did with Season 3. He said earlier this year, “If Nic has an idea that he is excited about, we will talk about it but not rushing into anything.”

“Whiskey Cavalier” has been “fully and finally canceled” by ABC, an individual familiar with the situation told TheWrap. Showrunner David Hemingson also announced the news Friday on Twitter.
Earlier this week, the network and the show’s producers re-entered talks to potentially reverse the show’s cancellation in the wake of significant fan outcry online, but according to Hemingson, the network ultimately chose to stick with its original decision to not move forward with a second season.
“Friends: I just got the sad news that @ABCNetwork has passed,” he wrote. “#WhiskeyCavalier has been fully and finally cancelled. Thank you all so, so much for your efforts on our behalf. I cannot begin to express my gratitude for the outpouring of support.”

The last few seasons of AMC’s The Walking Dead have been chock-full of character deaths, with fan favorites dropping faster than flies. Although a few key players permanently exited the show as a result of their untimely demise, others have simply left, either on their own free will or through other more mysterious circumstances.

There are probably many fans drowning their sorrows in whiskey shots after the cancelation of Whiskey Cavalier.
They are not alone. The ratings may not have necessarily reflected it, but the fun spy-dramedy had a loyal fan following, and it's devastating when a cult favorite gets the ax.
If there is any hope on the horizon, it's in knowing that there are rumors that Warner Bros is doing its best to shop the series around to see if anyone is willing to take it on.
Not only does Whiskey have a loyal following, but it is an international hit, so there is a market there for a save and renewal from someone, anyone willing to take the chance.

“Whiskey Cavalier” has been canceled after one season at ABC.

Following an emotional breakup, FBI super-agent Will Chase was assigned to work with badass CIA operative Frankie Trowbridge. Together in the series they led an inter-agency team of flawed, funny and heroic spies who periodically save the world — and each other — while navigating the rocky roads of friendship, romance and office politics.
In addition to Foley and Cohan, Ana Ortiz, Tyler James Williams, Vir Das and Josh Hopkins starred in the drama from writer and executive producer David Hemingson and executive producers Bill Lawrence and Jeff Ingold (Doozer Productions). Foley also produced. “Whiskey Cavalier” was a Warner Bros. Television production.
The series was one of the buzzier projects going into this season, particularly given that Cohan essentially left...

Had Training Day been made today it would have to contend with the changing role of policing in the age of the body camera and the armchair lawyer with a tiny broadcast studio in his pocket. For old school cops like Officer Ray Mandel, who operate in a gray area, its part of the job he laments the most. He’s not interested in de-escalation, although he tows the party line up until the moment when he no longer can–playing by the book might just get you killed.
Crown Vic, written and directed by Joel Souza, is an intensely talky noir drama taking place over the course of one shift that rookie officer Nick Holland (Luke Kleintank) will never forget. With suspects from a bank robbery at large, he and training officer Mandel pack a war bag and set out to patrol the streets of Los Angeles. If this version of L.

With the post-Oscars airing of “Whiskey Cavalier,” ABC is going the Super Bowl route to offer fresh programming that will draft off the main event’s massive audience. It’s the first time that the network has leveraged that coveted slot to launch a new show and push viewers toward its primetime lineup as opposed to reverting to its usual Jimmy Kimmel post-awards wrap-up.
“Whiskey Cavalier” won’t immediately follow the Academy Awards everywhere. On the East Coast, the Oscars will air 8-11 p.m., followed by a 30-minute local news spot, and then “Whiskey Cavalier” at 11:35 p.m. On the West Coast, which airs the Oscars live, the new series will air at 10 p.m. Pt, followed by the local news.
IndieWire spoke to ABC Entertainment’s Evp of programming strategy Andy Kubitz and Evp of marketing Rebecca Daugherty to gain insight into the strategic move.

The crux of “Whiskey Cavalier” can be found right in its protagonist’s name. “Will Chase” is a purposefully ridiculous wink of a name that tries to be both debonair and very silly all at once, just like the FBI agent (played by Scott Foley) to which it belongs. This isn’t a regular spy drama, “Whiskey Cavalier” insists at every turn, but a fun spy drama that refuses to take itself too seriously. Yes, it’s cheesy, but it’s hard to hold that against the show too much when it’s also half the point.
Despite its hour-long run time, the series was created by David Hemingson (“Just Shoot Me”), produced by Bill Lawrence (“Scrubs”), and directed in part by Peter Atencio (“Key and Peele”), so the pedigree behind it is more comedic than rooted in drama. If you’re the kind of person who still pays close attention to what the traditional broadcast networks are doing, you may have noticed that this has been the most uninspiring season for the Big Four in a very long time. Even with the very recent success of This Is Us on NBC, it feels like the networks have completely given up on the idea of competing with cable and streaming when it comes to drama. They know audiences aren’t expecting complexity from them, so they’ve stopped trying to offer it.

After a three-and-a-half year hiatus, Nic Pizzolatto’s crime anthology series True Detective returned for a third season last month. The new installment, headlined by Mahershala Ali, is five weeks into its eight-episode run, and the network is very happy with it.
“Creatively, ratings-wise, it did everything that we wanted it to do,” HBO President of Programming Casey Bloys said in an interview with Deadline. “It’s up to 8 million viewers an episode, we were thrilled with the review, I think fans have really liked it. Obviously acting is superb. I was very, very, very happy with all aspects of it.”
Is HBO already thinking about a fourth installment?
“I think we are going to handle it the same way as the last one — if Nic has an idea that he is excited about, we will talk about it but not rushing into anything,” Bloys said. “I think Nic is...

“I never stop coming up with theories about that case,” says the Arkansas cop played by Mahershala Ali in this trailer for HBO’s upcoming third season of True Detective. From the looks of this footage, he won’t be alone.
Playing out in three distinct time periods, the season promises to be a brain-teaser. Oscar-winner Ali (Moonlight) stars as Wayne Hays, an Arkansas state police detective who can’t stop thinking about the two children who went missing 30 years prior.
Costarring with Ali is Stephen Dorff as Hays’ partner on the case, along with Carmen Ejogo, Ray Fisher, Michael Greyeyes, Jon Tenney, Deborah Ayorinde, Rhys Wakefield, Sarah Gadon, Emily Nelson, Brandon Flynn, Michael Graziadei, Josh Hopkins, Jodi Balfour and Mamie Gummer. Nic Pizzolatto is the sole writer of the third season with the exception of Episode 4, which he co-wrote with David Milch.
Daniel Sackheim directs alongside Pizzolatto, who will make his directorial debut.

I will watch anything that features any of the main cast of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It actually hasn’t covered too much lately but in the case of Charisma Carpenter it has meant that I have watched a whole lot of average horror movies. But her featuring in a lead role here wasn’t the only reason I wanted to watch Mail Order Monster.
Here, a young girl is having some issues with life. Primarily, a bully at school and her Dad’s new girlfriend. It seems that help might be at hand though when a comic she is reading advertises a ‘Mail Order Monster’, that could be the answer to her problems. Yes, it does sound super cheesy but for a family-friendly movie, it’s also pretty perfect.
