He received the 1998 Gold Score Award for best compilation album from Scorelogue, and the International Film Music Critics Jury awarded him second place to Jerry Goldsmith's "The Omen" compilation. Reader's Choice chose "Heart of the Ocean", on which John performed, as best of the year 1998 and his "Coming Soon" album as #2. In early 1999 he released "Watch The Skies" "The Snow Files" and "The Funhouse" showcasing his own compositions as well as those of Mark Snow, Danny Elfman, and Alan Silvestri.
